Naruto Chapter 426: Your Soul is Slimy

I guess this chapter was alright, but for some reason I was expecting more. Maybe it’s because the whole “Konohamaru comes out and tries to be a hero” thing just seems cheesy to me. Heck, I never cared about the little scarf-wearing-Naruto-wannabe from the very beginning, and I don’t now. How does he plan to take on one of the Peins with his feeble Genin abilities? Dunno, but I guess I’m sorta curious what Konohamaru is gonna do. The other thing about this chapter is that it starts off a lot of different branches of the plot (Naruto’s new training, Konohamaru’s fight, Shizune’s escape, etc.), but really not a whole lot of important stuff actually takes place. It feels like Kishi is trying to tell too many events at once here so we get brief glimpse of each one but make very little progress in any of them individually.
The first scene of the chapter was a tad… mmm… tripped up. So Hell Realm Pein gets his hands on two Konoha ninja and asks them nicely for Naruto’s location. When they refuse to answer, he uses his weird technique where he summons some kind of giant demon enveloped in flames. Here, it is the first time we actually get to see one of the demon’s abilities – a lie detector. When the demon opens its mouth, it pulls out a long and slimy thingamajig from the mouth of the Konoha ninja. Now, I have no idea what is actually supposed to come out their mouth, but it must be some type of genjutsu because observers of the scene cannot see the demon nor what’s happening to the ninja. The slimy things look like enlarged tongues, but I guess it could also be a representation of their souls (I hope my soul isn’t slimy). Whatever it is, when the demon chomps down on it, the person it belonged to dies. Since one of the Leaf ninja was lying to Hell Pein, his ‘soul’ could be pulled out and consumed by the demon while his partner was spared because he really didn’t know where Naruto is.
It seems Konohamaru wasn’t at the interrogation center after all, but he still manages to find himself in an area where one of the Peins is. He can’t see what went on with the demon, but Konohamaru is smart enough to realize things are way too dangerous here. Unfortunately, he is not smart enough to look before he starts running, as a result he stupidly smacks his face right into a wall just behind him and gives away his position to Hell Pein. Luckily, Ebisu is there to cover him and selflessly exposes himself to give Konohamaru a chance to escape. Ebisu, of course, doesn’t last two seconds against Pein and finds himself next in line to be terminated. When he is asked about Naruto, we’re treated to a nice montage of the dynamic shift in the Konoha villagers’ opinion of Naruto as he grew up and proved himself through trials and adversities. Even Ebisu, who once hated Naruto because of the Kyuubi inside him, now views him as a hope for the entire village. Pein isn’t impressed and is about to put Ebisu through the tongue test when Konohamaru leaps out and makes to wild declaration that he will fight Hell Realm Pein. While I’m certain there’s nothing in Konohamaru jutsu repertoire that can possibly topple Pein, it was quite impressive that he was able to land three shuriken hits of Pein’s arm without Pein sensing the attack first. So who knows, maybe there is some hope. Also, nobody has tried to Sexy no Jutsu on Pein yet, so maybe it just might work! LOL
The other side stories in this chapter is Inoichi, Ino and Shizune’s escape from Animal Pein. But it looks like Human Realm is tracking them, so we can expect another battle on this front along with the Ibiki and ANBU versus Animal Realm Pein fight. Meanwhile, Naruto is still not ready to give up on his training. Even though Fukasaku has told him it’s physically impossible, Naruto is still attempting to gather nature’s energy while moving. Even so we know Naruto isn’t the type to just give up, even if the odds are million to one, he would still for it. He sees Jiraiya’s code on Fukasaku’s back as inspiration from his sensei and boosts his commitment to completing his Sage Mode training. Will Naruto overcome the impossible and obtain the perfected Sage Mode transformation? Of course he will. Why? Because the title of this manga is Naruto.

Excellent job, Bob…as usual. This was a decent chapter, basically a transitional one. We get a glimpse of Hell Realm Pein’s power, but I wonder if that is the only thing he can do, which I greatly doubt as well. That demon thing is exceedingly yukky! Evidently, we have witnessed that Konoha’s shinobi are not sacrificing their lives for Naruto because he has the Nine Tails, but because he is a part of Konoha, someone that now they value and put their faith on. Poor unnamed shinobi. Apparently, this Pein’s technique is some sort of genjutsu, given that Konohamaru, who was hiding among the chaos, could not see what happened to the shinobi held up by Hell Realm Pein.
Additionally, from the ruins of the Konoha Interrogation Serum, Shizune, Ino, Inoichi, and an ANBU head for the Decryption Office to solve the mystery of Pein’s power. There is something that came to my mind just now. Didn’t the people in the Decryption Office who know about the message on Fukasaku’s back (Shikamaru, Shiho, and Sakura) go out to help the people amidst the chaos? Well, of course, Shizune has no clue that they all went out to help. As we have noticed, Shizune and company will have other thing to worry about soon, that is, Human Realm Pein. I hope they prevail or manage to escape. If not, then Jiraiya’s sacrifice would then be in vain after all, since one of the things he accomplished before perishing was sending the Rain Village’s ninja body for interrogation. Maybe, one of them will die. The ANBU?
Furthermore, Naruto’s training has made zero progress. In the meantime, he tries to gather natural energy while moving. However, Fukasaku tells him that it is a physical impossibilty, no one can gather natural energy while moving. Naruto, as always, declares he will never give up. I think he will manage to do so, but then this would somehow eliminate the theories we have devised in the previous chapter discussion. We shall see.
Finally, after Konohamaru lamely reveals his position to Hell Realm Pein, as we all accurately predicted, Ebisu shows up to action, but doesn’t last long. It was good to see how much he and the rest of the ninjas in Konoha have changed the way they viewed Naruto. At last, Naruto does get the recognition of Konoha. With that in mind, Ebisu says he will not reveal Naruto’s whereabouts. Also, as predicted, Konohamaru comes into action to defend his sensei. I believe he was inspired by Naruto’s bravery. There was a flashback showing Naruto’s proposal to Konohamaru to learn a technique. I wonder what it could be other than the Sexy no Jutsu. I don’t think Pein would fall for that, but it would be cool if he does! The only unique techniques Naruto knew at that time were Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, Naruto Rendan, and Rasengan. We will see next week what Konohamaru will surprise us with.
To close my comment, what irritates me the most is that we did not get to see if Kakashi was going to die or not. We have to wait for one more week to know. At least, we didn’t get to see his conversation with his dad or just an infinitesimal piece of Kakashi’s limbo. It looks like Kishi has forgotten about how much important Kakashi is and how much revenue he has produced to Kishi’s empire. My only hope is that this signals that Kakashi will not die. I think that as soon that the slow Choji gets to Tsunade, they will focus their attention on Kakashi and probably go to pick his body up.
I forgot to mention about where God Pein is headed. Perhaps, he aims at Tsunade, who should be and is the person who knows about every shinobi in the village, especially knowing about the Jinchuuriki of the village. In the last page, we read that next chapter is going to be scary, full of terror. What will we behold?
I agree with you Bob about Konohamaru. I never really was interested in him as a character and now he’s gunna try and be a big shot and save the day. There can be only one guy that does that and that’s Naruto. -_-” Otherwise the story would turn into Bleach. Everyone is a hero, they get hurt badly and are about to die, but then taken to a hospital and are ready to fight in 2 days. Bullpies! I hope they lose! xS Or Naruto saves them. But it looks like Naruto is gunna come back when everyone is dead and he’s gunna be all like, “GRRRRR!!!” ‘n’ stuff. Then realize that everyone protected him. Flashbacks are gunna happen, then they’re gunna have a couple chapters to get everything set up, and then they’re gunna go try to take down Akasuki.
Or Sasuke might show up and save Konohamaru. Either way works I guess.

Yea i didnt like konohamaru either >_>” but i guess that’s the next generation…. i kinda hope Sasuke does show up in the next few chapters to save the day XD and then that will mess with naruto’s head again =3, i have a feeling that kishi is guna take us through each pein… a few chapters at a time. =(

You know how Naruto said that the code was for him? “The real one is not with them” … maybe it’s in reference for him to stay still while one of his clones keeps Pein occupied. I think this was discussed earlier in another topic, but forgot how the discussion actually went.
Anyway … I can’t wait to see how Naruto will overcome this little roadblock and I can’t wait to see what Konohamaru is actually capable of.
Well if they can’t fuse, then why can’t Naruto go inside himself and be like, “Kyuubi! You mah bitch! Do what I say foo or imma bussyou up so bad yo Kyuubi mamma ain’t gunna even recognize yoo!!” haha that’d be silly. xP

i am back and did something happen when i was away.firstly i never thought the village respected naruto that much and secondly i did not the leaf knew about naruto saving them from gaara 1 tail beast and finally i hope the next chap will not be solely focus on konhamaru
