Naruto Chapter 423: Rusty Nail Beats Sharingan?

I hope everyone had an awesome Halloween yesterday! I sure did! And I even managed to scrounge up this blog post too! I’m so proud of myself 
Have fun reading it while I gorge on candy I stole from some defenseless kids on the street. Hey, don’t look at me like that, at least I left the kid with the Naruto costume alone :p
This chapter is another action-packed blast with Kakashi getting some help with his battle against Pein. It does leave us on one hell of a cliffhanger though: the possible death of Kakashi!! I wanna say right now that I don’t believe it. Kakashi is way too important to this series and to the fans to have him die off after just a few chapters of fighting against Pein. Fanbase-wise, Kakashi is in the top ten of past character popularity polls from Shonen Jump. Our own Narutohurricane character poll shows him at #7. And if we look at the last major character who perished, Jiraiya, he is at #11. So for a #11 to have a bigger battle and death scene than a #7 doesn’t make much sense. Kakashi has played a very major role in the Naruto series, and he deserves more than to go out with a nail flicked into his head. In short, it would be a big mistake on Kishi’s part to kill off Kakashi.
When Choji and his father arrived with back-up, Kakashi has already figured out the basics of Pein’s ability. The God Realm Pein has the power to control gravity in that he can pull things in or repel them at will. This is a very versatile ability if you think about it. Virtually anything around you can become a weapon as long as it can be picked up and moved. Pein has also shown that his ability applies to other peoples’ bodies, making it nearly impossible for any kind of physical attack to work on him. One thing that does make me wonder is how Pein was able to repel’s Kakashi’s lightning dog jutsu if his power is gravity-based. Basic physics says that gravity only applies to things which have mass. So does this mean that lightning has mass? And does chakra have mass? Well, I don’t want to get too nerdy about this, LOL – so I’ll just say this: all jutsus in the Naruverse, save pure taijutsu, require chakra to work. Pein’s ability is no exception, so I’m betting his power requires him to release chakra in order to pull or push enemies or objects. If that’s the case, it would make sense that he was able to destroy Kakashi’s ninjutsu so easily; chakra can attack chakra after all.
If you look at the explosive radius of some of Pein’s blasts, they are huge – this can only mean that Pein has a huge amount of chakra reserve available to him. One possible reason how he can access so much chakra can be explained by the chakra receiving black rods he uses. Think about it, if Pein has implanted the black stuff into hundreds of bodies (both human and summons like his animals), then his chakra reserve would be immense. Pein would literally be a ninja army of one. However, one limitation of his power which Kakashi caught on quickly has to do with the rate at which Pein can channel that chakra. On page three, after Pein’s first big blast, Choji threw some kunai at Pein, but instead of repelling them like before, Pein moved to dodge them instead. Kakashi then threw his own explosive kunai, but Pein was able to repel this one with his gravity power. My guess is that Pein needs to gather up chakra again after every large attack like the area blast, his body can only store so much at once after all. But it doesn’t look like the recharge takes very long, as the very next instant he was able to block Kakashi’s attack.
Kakashi is truly a gifted ninja for having both the tactical intelligence of Shikamaru and the firepower of Jiraiya to back up his clever strategies. Using what he just learned a moment ago, Kakashi was able to come up with a plan to exploit the one weakness in Pein’s ability. He had Choji and his dad use a diversionary attack to make Pein expand his chakra to repel them. On top of that, he also managed to sneak a chain beneath him to immobilize Pein and set him up for a Chidori to the face. But alas, stupid Demon Realm Pein jumped in just in the nick of time to take the hit instead. There was no way Demon Realm Pein could still be moving like that after being utterly crushed by Choza’s fist last chapter. The only reasoning is that his body movement isn’t controlled by muscles and bones anymore, but by chakra signals. If that’s the case, it would explain how the three Peins Jiraiya had killed during his battle stood up again after being impaled. What also made me think is why God Realm Pein is the only one who has another Pein acting as his body guard like this. Could it be that this Pein is the really the real one? But that can’t be because Jiraiya’s decoded message was “the real one isn’t among the†and when he wrote that, God Realm Pein was one of the Peins he was fighting. I want to know the truth!
Despite Kakashi’s best efforts, his attack on Pein fails and all of his reinforcements are defeated. Kakashi himself is buried in debris, but Pein isn’t taking any unnecessary risks with him. He pulls up a simple rusty nail with his gravity power and seemingly flings it into Kakashi’s skull. But has Kakashi really been killed? I think not. Why? Well, just look at how his “death scene†is presented. It’s too short and quick and we see a silhouette of Kakashi being hit, not his real body. All of this smells like another Kishirific cliffhanger. Also, even though Pein says that this Kakashi probably isn’t a clone, Kakashi was able to trick Pein before with his trap clone. You also can’t forget that Kakashi could be using genjutsu and that he hasn’t even used his Mangekyou Sharingan yet. C’mon, Kakashi being done in by a rusty nail? — he deserves better than that don’t you guys think?
And if Kakashi dies, it would be Naruto’s fault because he’s having fun fusing himself with an old toad, ewww.. kinda gross if you think about it. The dead messenger frog is no excuse, Naruto should have brought a ninja cell phone with him. Hey, if they can have ninja two-wave wireless radios and ninja microscopes, I think they’d be able to invent some ninja cell phones in the Naruverse.

Excellent job, Bob. I think Kakashi will definitely not die. Like I said earlier in a comment for Naruto Manga Chapter 423 Is Out, Kakashi hasn’t been given enough screen time and flashbacks about himself. Plus, it has only been a few chapters, like you’ve observed. I know Pain is really powerful, but many other weaker shinobi have been shown in a long succession of episodes battling with other Akatsuki. We haven’t seen yet his strongest abilities. What I don’t understand is why haven’t other Konoha shinobi arrived at the battle site and bailed Kakashi out. He, Kakashi, was the only smart shinobi to go stop Pain and figure out his true intentions and diversion. One thing I will repeat, KAKASHI WILL NOT DIE…at least yet….but I DON’T WANT HIM DIE!
about why didn’t other came to help kakashi we must understand that there are 4 more pain bodies and konan in konoha to deal with so maybe later we would see that fights

This was an okay chapter. Honestly, I would love to see more of Naruto’s training, but the fight between Kakashi and Pein is starting to pick up pace. I like that next chapter is titled “Pay Close Attention.” Kinda makes you think that Kakashi definitely isn’t dead and most likely has something special to use against Pein.

actually kakashi already gave us his light about Pain’s abilities.Anyway i think that the real pain does never participate in the battles but he wants to protect God Realm Pain because it’s probably it’s stronger body or it has the best ability.Kakashi was amazing.If he was team up with gai or Tsunade or with a strong jutsu user he would have killed Pain.He battled with him for some seconds and he understood his abilities weakness in no time.HAIL Hatake Kakashi!

Comics or movies, but the point is, I think copied it. Kishi have the talent to put the best things from other series to one universe. Many things remind my at Star Wars, Final Fantasy, DBZ….
And I hope it was a genjutsu, because as we already saw in the fight against Jiraya, genjutsu is one of the weakest point on pein.
And Kakashi is the best genjutsu user in Konoha.
I would also like to see naruto back in konoha but how is it his fault? As we have seen before the radios have a very limited range and their has never been much technology in naruverse. Also from what fukasaku said in this chapter I doubt they would let him go back even if he wanted to.
Bob you points many things that a never thought, but I have to disagree about Narutos fault.
He sense it that Konoha is in danger but Fukasaku pacify him and I think if Fukasaku know about attack he wouldnt tell him that, because he want to finish Naruto´s training. It without the fusion Naruto wouldnt be a match for pein.
And I retry it a lot, but its tsunade´s duty to protect the village. We already said that she´s not able to face pein directly but where´s the backup.
Where´s her awesome healing ability.
Maybe she can charge Kakashi´s chakra reserves.
I think its halftime of the battle and she did nothing.
i dont think kakashi’s dead because just before the end you see him with one eye closed and his sharigan out, he could of used that space time jutsu just as the nail hit, nice blog, it was awsum
I also think that the demon realm isnt move by muscle, I think its just the gravity of the god realm who move his body to protect himself.
Hope that he is death now, because we saw him broke in the middle and hell realm isnt there.
I don’t think that demon is moved by gravity because in that case god realm wouldn’t needed him to stop kakashi attack he could use gravity

I forget that he need a small break to use his gravity power, he push Kakashi away than he was attacked by his chidori. So that can imply that a possibility to defeat pein are multiple attacks.

Yeah, basic physics does say that, but otherwise – energy does have mass. (even if it’s really insignificant…) So lightning and chakra do have mass…

Actually, that’s not completely true, either. That formula only applies for small (and I mean EXTREMELY small ) amounts of mass and energy. Even though it says E=m…, neither mass, nor energy has ever been completely converted into the other…
I think God Pein is sorta like a chakra-buffer. The chakra goes through him first and then to all the rest, or something like that…
And I think Kakashi managed to move so that the nail wouldn’t pierce his brain or eye. Or maybe he just used his mangyekyou to make it disappear…

Why Pain use his gravity controll to move demon realm pain to protect him instead of pushing Kakashi back?
Bob, I agree with you that the real pein isnt there according to what Jiraya said. And the rinnegan enable pein to use all 6 elements, but we just saw the 6th element.
That means, if all pein´s are defeated, the circle will start again. Because the real pein will recruit some other bodies.

Though I think in essence, this whole gravitational “pull and repel” is basically right. I still see it being about magnetism. The ability to repel and attract chakra like a magnet, explaining how he can turn away anyone who has any use in battle(ie: chakra supply left), it also would explain how chakra based attacks are affected by his ability, and lastly, how he can draw on the chakra from others with the peircings implanted. So if I were gonna give an X-men counterpart, seems more like Magneto to me.
BTW, That whole theory about the animals and bodies Bob, I really liked the thought of Pein having an unlimited chakra supply only by the leeching of others-it was sheer awesomeness!
And where the hell are these slugs that are supposed to be healing everyone? Katsuyu needs to go on freakin’ diet if even all her mini-clones are that slow.
@Sephiroth13, Pain didn’t push Kakashi away with gravity because, like Kakashi figured out, there is minuscule interval between every time he uses “the force” (Kishi can’t stop mixing Star Wars stuff into this).
I agree with all of you, guys. Kakashi used his MS to blow the nail into another dimension, yet we have not seen if he has any other sharingan techniques, like Tsukuyomi or Amaterasu (this last one could explain why we say blood flying in the last scene).
I can’t believe that the slowest shinobi (the Akimichis) were the first and only ones to show up to help Kakashi. Good grief! There are so many shinobi in Konoha!
i think it actually could of been God Realm who made Demon Realm move.As Bod noted in only takes a short time for God Realm to recharge to use it and the clip where it show Kakashi ripping Demon Realm in half it looks as if God Realm is movin backwards…then all you see is kakashi stuck under all the fallen bulding parts. That right there could be a time little time jump so the possibility for God Realm to use his powers isn’t unlikely
I think Naruto will return until he finishes his training, obviously, and probably then he can help Konoha. The question is “How long will it take him to finish the training?” Fukasaku said this was the most difficult part of the training.

I say Kakashi lost his sharingan because in one interview it said a sharingan user will go blind.
If kakashi was to lose his sharingan, he still would have all his jutus’s, but he wouldn’t be able to read his oppents attacks anymore.Which would make it impossible for im to use chidori anymore, because he always has his normal eye closed. Which means he still isn’t able to read his oppents movements.So i wonder if he does lose it how his role in naruto change???But im pretty sure he doesn’t die.

Kakashi deserve a better ending, as the Hokage and maybe against his former prentice, that would be dramatical and ironical ending.
lightning is a plasma, a form of matter, so therefore has mass and is affected by gravity (but even less than a gas is)

If you look carefully (say last panel on p. 7), you’ll see that Kakashi’s sharingan is in its mangekyou state…
There’s no reason for Kakashi to have activated that unless he was going to use it. Maybe Kakashi learned a mangekyou genjutsu?

2. I believe “influenced” is a better word to describe the way Kishi has come up with the many different ideologies and aspects of Naruto

@And I don’t think any of the toads can be summoned bc Naruto is the only person alive that has a pact with the frogs. That would mean that there is nobody in the village that could summon any toads, and that would mean no reverse summoning!@

Kakashi can’t be dead and I refuse to believe and I really really don’t think his sharingan has been destroyed because thats just crazy talk I think it is a genjutsu and maybe he used his mangeykou sharingan to help I mean we really haven’t seen more than one technique with it anyway and Itachi and Sasuke have lots of techniques, Kakashi is still kicking but I wish he have a lt more chakra because he runs out of chakra to fast! But Kakashi is strong he is the fourths student after all and the son of Sakumo Hatake.
I don’t think it’s Naruto’s fault, it’s Danzo’s and the little frog he should know Akatsuki better than that! Naruto is going to come and kick Peins ass I just hope he gets stronger so he can actually do it! I think if Kakashi can’t get him on the ropes and Tsunade can’t either than Konoha is done for and Nartuo will come home to nothing! I wonder what will happen to Sakura!

Bob you said something about how Jiraiya was fighting the god realm, I not trying to correct you but don’t forget that it was when Pein who change in the body of a another ninja just before he fight Jiraiya. But you right to because the Pein that we are looking at now is real one because in chapter 370 he change body so that surely mean that the real pain is with is with that group.
OMG~! What if when Naruto comes back and sees his village is ruins he says~ “Screw this, it’s all my fault! You damn demon fox! Bob, I think it’s magnetism not gravity or gravity makeing magnetism, because that would explain how he canceled out the dog (Magnets use electrical feilds to create atraction)
I think kakashi’s blood was from quick MS use not the nail hitting. oh, and I so called pein’s abilities. (Even though it took me days to see what kakshi saw in seconds, oh well)
Someone other than naruto can summon toads in the village, or there are toads already in the village because someone summoned gamagichi/fusaku after Jariya’s death

Wow… I feel like a moron for asking this, but isn’t anyone concerned about Chouji and the Akimichi clan? Are they dead? I dunno… they were pretty important if you ask me. As for Kakashi, I doubt he’s dead. I agree that the fight was waaay too short, but then again it could cause another fight between Pain and someone else, idk… everyone had much better theories..
@40 I’m glad someone else thinks it’s about magnetism as well Mart1, and you also gave another reason about how the magnetism would have cancelled out the electrical chakra, that’s something I never would have thought of, but then again I was never really paid a whole lot of attention in chemistry/science/physics.
And about the tiffs that have been happening. It’s stupid you guys, I’ve been here for like almost a half year now and I’ve read both of your posts, you’re some of the smartest guys here, so act like it. Sometimes people get cocky on threads…yeah, sometimes people will disagree with what you said…sure, you just can’t take anything personally. And you should never try to tell a person what they did was wrong…It’s human nature for a human to believe they are close to infallible. It’s just a headache if you ask me.
At the same time I’m contradicting my own point, bah.
@46 Ekahr, I worried about Kishi killing Chouji off the first time he introduced him in this battle, he’s one of my favs.., in fact, I was just him for halloween last night. At the same time, I would think that though they are slow, they are some of the most durable shinobi in Konoha. Not to mention HUGE chakra reserves. They’ll be just fine I think. It is funny how someone like Kakashi has so much versatility but doesn’t have the means to use it, and Kishi paired him up with people who have huge chakra reserves but very limited methods of fighting.

Oh my….I don’t think kakashi will die because he’s one of the main charecters and sometimes moves the story along. I don’t think Kishi will kill him right after Jariya’s death because there will be lots of angry fan girls and Naruto will be really sad too. ^.^
arex thanks, I know about electromagnets, cuz I wanna be an electrical engineer, and as for choji, I think he is fighting deamon pein seeing how they both disappeared and kakshi even stated that they key to fighting them is one-on-one (or two-on-one as the case may have it). This also makes sense because the pairings would then be more evenly matched (Taijutsu-Taijutsu and Ninjutsu-Ninjutsu)
am I the only one who noticed that Kakashi didn’t have his 4-head protector when he was “killed”.
I think Naruto will come back after the village has been good and decimated. I seriously doubt he’s going to come back and save anybody. He’ll see how the village refused to give him up, how people were willing to die before giving his location and realize he’s finally been properly acknowledged. This will power him up like Sasuke’s acknowledgement of him powered him up when they were fighting Gaara in the woods.
Of course, this is just my theory. Then…then he’ll get in Pein’s @$$.

but one thing bothers me about last pic the blood looks like coming from both front and back of kakashi head so if he is really hit by nail it pierced trough his head but also it didn’t look like blood to me more like sweat (drops are too small but still it could be just the way kishi shows blood)
I also think that when pain change his bodies he just replace them with new one that have same ability as body killed and real pain is still in shadow like the time we first saw him in akatsuki
also god realm didn’t moved demon because he was unable to do that, and if he was able to use “gravity” he would rather make kakashi miss him than sacrifice demon realm
but in this situation to save god realm pain had to sacrifice demon realm
If Naruto see all this death people, who are dying to keep him save.
His anger will be endless, hope that the kyuubi wont break out.
But what if it comes to the fight 4tailed Narurto against pein.
That would destroy the whole village, as you can already saw at the fight against Oro.

Pein is one remarkable creature. I don’t think Demon realm moved at all, I think God realm pulled him toward him, either through his gravity trick, or through the black rods in him.
I don’t think God realm is the real Pein, just the Squad leader of the puppets. Like always, I think the real Negato is pulling the strings somewhere else… I wonder if he is as strong as God realm, or stronger? Or maybe he is incredibly week without the puppets (doubt that).
Kakashi isn’t dead. The last panel kind of reminded me of the technique Kishi used when illustrating Orochimaru’s jutsu he used on Sasuke and Sakura back in the Chuunin exams, that makes them see their own death.
And what the hell happened to all the other doors Kishi opened a few chapters back with the Lightning village, and Hawk’s where-abouts?

@ultimatehokage: “Kakashi is the best genjutsu user in Konoha” Nope. Actually Kurenai is strongest genjutsu user in Konoha; this was stated in a much earlier episode where one of her former students was possessed by a demon.
For real though, where is Sai and the members of the two Anbu factions? Some ANBU were with Tsunade when she summoned Katsyu…

Kakashi for Hokage: Kakashi’s great tactically, would have knowledge of a huge number of jutsus, but I can’t see him dealing with the paper work… he should grow old and become an advisor (visualise him old, still masked and with his “pervy” book)

Bob your theory about Pain is really good however I think the reason why god realm is being protected so much is because he is like the chakra-outlet.
@57, though I really enjoy the filler arcs, they aren’t really connected to the manga, Kishi doesn’t even write/illustrate the stories in the filler arcs. I don’t even know if the writers of the fillers have to pass anything by Kishi.
I’d have to agree that Kurenai is probably the best-known Genjutsu user in Konoha, and probably is the best at it.
Kinda besides the point though, considering she’s full with child. So Kakashi is Konoha’s best known bet or genjutsu currently.
ive stated this before, with all the information given to us about pein. its obvious that he isn’t one of the six. me personally i think that he is in Amegakure.he is the new village leader so i there isn’t a way for him to be moving around in akatsuki.Which brings in the six bodies he uses. I do think however out of all the bodies the most important to him is God Realm, for the simple a fact its his old partner.
As for which of the eye techniques are stronger, we should all remember something that goes back to the beginning of the naruto series. its something that kishi reminds his readers all the time, the eye techniques are just another tool for shinobi’s. given that the Rinnegan has been classified as being the strongest, but that could only be because the ninjustu creator had them. If all that didn’t make any sense to anyone look at it from this perspective. if the Rinnegan is so powerful and is the strongest eye technique, why is pein taking orders from a person who has a Sharringan.
GJ BOB i think kakashi got hit by the nail but survived it and it can’t be the mangekyo because we see blood on the final pic and i also think kakashi didn’t got stabbed in his sharingan i mean he is a moron if is unable to get the nail in another place he just needs to move his head a little
here are my thoughts on this chapter and possible scenarios that will pan out:
1. There is some thing wrong with fusion, I mean think about it, what was the point of those pages with naruto except to point out the obvious, so it has to have something to do with fusion. My guess is fukasaku and kyuubi won’t get along.
2. I think that Kakashi has set up a genjutsu from the end of chapter 422: reason, when he was hiding he already said that he had something planned and his whole chain thing couldn’t have been the plan since those guys hadn’t shown up yet.

It could mean that the sharingan could be more powerfull than the rinnegan because I dont think that pein would take orders who´s weaker than himself.
i dunno if the sharingan is stronger than the rinnegan we have only seen the abilities of the pein puppets and have yet to see nagato the true holder of the rinnegan show the rest of his abilities.
Kakashi cant be dead he is way to strong and smart to be finished so easily, but one hell of a chapter good work Bob
Remember when Jirayia said that he found out Pein’s true identity just before he died and he sent the coded message to Konoha that “the real one is not among them� Well until recently I was imagining Nagato being somewhere hidden and controlling via telepathy of some sorts his bodies thus keeping himself at a safe distance. As soon as Pein invaded Konoha, Shizune said that the chakra receivers are getting hot and they are responding to chakra at the moment. At that moment I thought that since the receivers where not responding before Pein’s attacks then it should mean that, Nagato probably is much closer now… at a distance that he is enabled to control his bodies… maybe even in Konoha
But I was reading the forum yesterday for this chapter’s discussion and someone there pointed something that skipped from most of us which made me revise my suspicions and came up with something different. That guy (cant remember his name) said that in this chapter God Realm Pein is shown to wear a black necklace… Now, when Jirayia first witnessed the Rinnegan when Nagato was a child he mentioned the Sage of Six Paths and a panel was showing a dark figure with a necklace around his neck with 6 tooth like objects. After the guy that pointed out this, he said he had previously made some research on eastern mythology and found out that this necklace was among the Kusanagi sword etc items and had the ability to host six souls …. One in each “toothâ€.
As we all know Kishi is using mythology for his storyline, if this is true then maybe Jirayia was right to point out that the real one is not among them, but then again it may not mean that there is a seventh person that controls the six bodies. It may mean that all six souls are hosted in that necklace and that is why God realm wears it… he has the best defensive ability than all the other bodies… that’s why the Death realm body was pushed in front of Kakashi to protect the God realm… This is why Pein said to Jirayia we all share the name Pein.. we all are Pein… That is how Pein is able to resurrect his bodies… there souls are hosted in the necklace… so any attacks can only damage the physical body… and in case that body is rendered useless then he replaces it with a different one… I think Nagato is alive but just his soul.. maybe at some point during his travels he came across this necklace… maybe only Rinnegan users can take advantage of it… Then at some point maybe his body became useless and he had to use another body… and which body would be best than Yamato’s? Yamato is dead.. afterall Pein said that he merely remembers someone by that name… so he used his body as one of Pein’s bodies…
That’s a very interesting comment there timos. I remember the post that explained the neclace, and I too noticed that it wasn’t until this week’s episode that we got to see it. It would be predictable to say that a rinnegan possessor would research knowledge about other rinnegan users (like the sage of the six paths) and learn about its secrets (neclace and who knows what other techniques).
I’d like to make a few comments on the gravity and magnetism theories that were posted.
First of all, gravity only goes one way. If you did your physics homework than you’d know that gravity is a force that surrounds Earth and depending on the distance an object will have from the core of Earth, the force would be higher (close to the core) or smaller (away from the core). So because Pain used that force to push things upward (in his first blast) or drag horizontally (neither are going downwards like the force of gravity is), my bet is it’s not gravity.
As a small side note, G = m x g, where G is the force of gravity, m is the mass of the object, and g is a constant that applies to objects on the surface of Earth and is 9.8 m/s. My point is that in order to increase/manipulate the force of gravity, you’d have to increase one or both of these values. And I wouldn’t know how to increase either using ninjustsu.
Magnetism needs metal to attract. If you remember Magneto locked inside his glass prison. He had frequent encounters with the guard, but couldn’t do anything. It was only after his minion injected iron into the guards blood stream that Magneto was able to use that. And remember that he didn’t control the guards body. The iron just came out through the guards body. In our case, Kakashi said the ability is like that of a magnet. He didn’t say it was a magnetic ability. Furthermore, other materials that didn’t contain metal were affected (timber for example, not to mention shinobi).
Instead Kakashi put more emphasis on describing it like a force field that surrounds him and which can be controlled in order to let/pull something in or repel it. So my guess is it doesn’t depend on the object, person that it is used on. He repelled walls, timber structures, shinobi and attracted Kakashi and a very significant, highly important nail :-ss
I hadn’t really realized it until merlin made a point out of it. Thanx merlin (: It seems true that on page 7, Kakashi has his MS activated. And later on in the chapter after the fight has been reduced to an immobilized Kakashi and Pain, we can see a very tired Kakashi on page 15, with a lot of bruises on his face, but on the last page, we can see several drops of sweat on his face, and his MS activated again. My bet is this is probably one of his last efforts and last squeeze of chakra, that Kakashi made, in order to … we’ll see next time
What also made me think is why God Realm Pein is the only one who has another Pein acting as his body guard like this. Could it be that this Pein is the really the real one? But that can’t be because Jiraiya’s decoded message was “the real one isn’t among the†and when he wrote that, God Realm Pein was one of the Peins he was fighting. I want to know the truth!
I’d like nothing more than to shed a little light on that truth you’re referring to. My theory is that Jiraya was trying to say that The real leader of Akatsuki isn’t with the six that he was fighting, thus refering to Madara. But I’ve been working on a post for a while now that should clarify some of the details of who Pein really is, and also back up what I said a few lines up.
But until I do finish the post I’d really like some comments on what I just said:

BTW I liked the chakra reserves theory a lot. It would be really troublesome to fight someone with so much chakra… unless you’re Naruto off course
There’s also another thing that’s bugging me. The short scene where we get to see Naruto and Fukasaku made me think that, if that was happening at the same time Kakashi was fighting Pein, than Fukasaku didn’t sense that the transmission frog was killed. So he’s still waiting for Konoha to send a frog.
On the other side, I’m pretty sure Tsunade has other ways to reach Fukasaku or communicate with him, but as long as she knows that the transmission frog left, she won’t have a reason to. The conclusion is that:
1. Tsunade will realize that there’s a problem when Naruto doesn’t show up. She knows that Fukasaku would immediately contact them if something happened to Naruto during his training, so she would probably try to contact Fukasaku and see what the problem is.
2.Naruto won’t know about what’s going on/will have went on in Konoha untill he either finishes his training, or Tsunade successfully contacts Fukasaku.
By magnetism I simply meant similar to magnetism like Kakashi said. Plus Kakashi was stabbed with the black material, so I don’t think it’s too far of a stretch to say that Pein did hold some power over him by releasing something into his body.
What I meant by magnetism is that he is a chakra magnet, having the ability attract and repel people and attacks that have a chakra concentration. Though that is a little far fetched because the only sure way you could fight a power like that is if you had no chakra, which I think would mean you’re dead.
and @72 I’ve been playing around with thoughts like that a lot in my head but could never come to a solid grounding theory and I’m glad you brought it up. The way Jiraiya worded that was very vague, but the consensus seems to be either that he is not there, or the God Realm is the real body. Thinking outside the box by thinking the intention may have been Akatsuki as opposed to Pein himself is pretty ingenious in it’s simplicity.
I mean, Konoha beats Pein and assumes it’s over. Well shit, two days later in strolls Tobi/Madara to capture Naruto for himself. It also makes sense that Madara hasn’t revealed himself too much because he considers himself the trump card…the ace in the hole. He is the reality whereas Pein is essentially “this godlike being.” If Konoha beats a god, they won’t expect anything greater to befall them.
could god realms power be the 6th element that the rinnegan user is suppose to have?
if kakashi dies it would be a good twist that no one predicted. people kept saying that tsunade would die in the invasion but it was too predictable, it has been done in two occasions already with the 3rd and 4th hokage dieing saving the village. big characters need to die in the pain invasion to show how strong pain is and how devastating the invasion was.
has anyone thought of the fact that god pein might be absorbing chakra and feed the other bodies for his attacks or just couter attacks from fedd chakra energy, like being hit with lightning then cirulating through his body and being forced out at a repelled wind technique of some sort , but the gravity idea defeats my thoughts on that

Magnetism could affect timber, people and everything else mentioned above it just affects metals more, or it could affect certain particles in these objects, or certain parts of the objects themselves (All ninja are covered with metal in their clothes, weapons, and gadgets)
Genjutsu wouldn’t work on Pein because he has six bodies and would perceive the difference.

Pein showing us that he’s now showing Kakashi some respect and not wanting to get to close to him and i think this was and little but important comment by God Realm Pein because he is the omly realm so far to see when to take caution against another shinobi i wonder why is this so because it could be a big clue in defeating Pein.
I liked this chapter a lot. The battle sequences were good and gets me excited and anxious to see Naruto come back soon and rip Pein a new one!
Just something of interest to me … I don’t think Pein’s ability is gravity, but rather magnetism. I believe he has the ability to change polarity on objects and pull or push them away. Not like Magneto who only has an effect on metallic objects, but over magnetic forces like the moon has on the tides.
This also leads me to think that maybe the other didn’t move on his own, but rather he was “pulled in” to block Kakashi’s attack. My reason for this is simple … Gravity only works one way … towards an object. Magnetism works two ways. But like I said … that’s just me.
sorry ya’ll … it took sometime for my post to take effect, and it seems some of you already posted the same thing I did about gravity and magnetism … oh well. In the forum and on the blogs it was posted about what we think the sixth element is, and I posted and still believe it to be magnetism. All the elements thus far have a balance, and magnetism seems to be the only thing that would balance lightning. but that’s just me …
doesn’t wind balance lighting and it is stronger than it. can wait to see naruto in action again like he was in part one against haku, neji, sasuke and gaara. he fight are always the best because they involve super bad @$$ and powerful techniques. i want to see what else he learned from jiriaya in the time skip added to the rasenshuriken training and sage training. because i find it difficult to believe that all jiriaya thought naruto was the odama rasengan. because he weaken the kyuubi seal for some reason. maybe all the techniques naruto learned involved the kyuubi power. because he trained nagato, yahiko, and konan for the same amount of time he trained naruto in the time skip and they learned many powerful techniques as shown in jiriaya’s flashback that ultimately cause his downfall.

just some answers on the gravity thing.
if it was magnetism then the metal on kakashi’s outfit should have been going towards pein not kakashi himself as a whole. in fact if magnetism’s the case then kakashi could have escaped that easily because he could remove all metals on his outfit or they’ll be the one to get drawn to pein. so my conclusion to this is that pein can control chakra very effectively and even use it against them. but still there’s a hole in my theory which is if that’s the case then why did pein just stop the chakra flow in everyone’s body to immobilize them all? but then again there’s another whole here. in all the mangas i’ve read and animes i’ve watched there are always holes in the powers because if that will happen it will create a big twist in the story which can make it unreversible. there will be too much godlike abilities and there wouldn’t be any spectacular fights anymore. because what’s the point of being a hero if your already a god?
=) and another thing about demon realm moving and the black material. as shizune have said it needs to be pierced in the body and stay there. to make it simple whats the use of the antennae if you just put it in then pulled it back? so this cancels out everything about pein controlling kakashi using his black material. and as someone has said above ” THE BODY IS USELESS BECAUSE THE BODIES WHICH PEIN USED ARE DEAD” so this would mean that the black piercings are CHAKRA RECEIVERS.(according to shizune) and would also mean that pein is controlling them by the use of these receivers. and also that would cancel out the theory of pein having an enormous chakra reserve by having put those black materials. another theory is since akatsuki is extracting the bijuus maybe his chakra is coming from those demons knowing that these demons have an enormous chakra reserves. well this evidence should be completely solid for the manga supports this in every aspect.
and the kakashi dying thing. i have two different theories. these theories are based on the next chapter’s name which is “PAY CLOSE ATTENTION”. the first time i saw this i already knew these possibilities. first is in naruto’s training about the fusion thing which if happens will focus on him. (finally a spotlight only for him) since a post here said that the frog and kyuubi will not agree, is very, very, very, very wrong. see that the frog’s power relies on his surroundings which is very, very, very wide. this would mean the kyuubi would be a tiny speck of dust. but if this happens they would still not agree so the frog will take on natural energy up to the level which their energies jive then fusion will not be a problem for them. or the frog and the kyuubi will agree together because fusing that the frog means doesn’t really mean they’re going to move as one and think as one in one body. naruto is just like a gun which is equipable to a accessory in which the accessory can be detached anytime and even upgrades its performance so if i was the kyuubi i would even accept this and another aspect is if the 8 tailed host can rhyme with the demon why can’t naruto? if naruto does this it will really give him an edge on his fight with pein. so what might happen on this chapter is fusukaku will tell him about the key frog to get along with the kyuubi and take a crack at fusion and upon finishing it would go back to konoha and kakashi instructs naruto and informs him what to do. that may all happen in the next chapter or yet again we get a cliffhanger =)

I think that Kakashi is hinting Pein shouldn’t take an opponents vunerability for granted, and what Kakashi really means is; we both know that I cannot dodge from this range so what makes you think I will/would leave myself vunerable and open like this?

If you look carefully, you can notice that Pein’s chest is no longer shown after Kakashi pierced through Demon Realm and tried to get God Realm. Could it be that he got hit?
I mean it certainly wouldn’t have been a fatal blow, but still. Remember also that we see apiece of his cloth laying on the ground at the bottom of page 15. I wonder….
I’m sorry, maybe it’s just me, but why are people referring to magnetism (the draw between objects) as being magnetic (the charge of an object)? Magnetism is not just about metal, magnetism in general is the ability to attract. This is what I believe Pein’s ability is. The ability to draw and attract a person’s chakra to command them to do whatever he wants. As a kind of puppetmaster. Like Magneto who can control metal, Pein can control a persons chakra. Though magnetic jutsus are nothing new in Naruto, the Third Kazekage used them along with his Iron Sand. And also I had posted that maybe magnetism balances out lightning, thats not true. Lightning is still more powerful as electricity can change the polarity of an object. So if anything, lightning works with magnetism. Who knows, maybe Kakashi will learn that ability too …

Um about the whole Magneto thing. I was trying to draw a general similarity not an absolute similarity when I compared his ability to Pein’s. It’s obvious that it isn’t based only on metal. So this big “hole” in my semi-theory that has been “disproved” about 4 times now…I concede. Pein is not Magneto.

That dog wall summon that was blasted away…I think it might return in some way, it seems ridiculous that Kakashi would use a summoning jutsu just to back Pain into something and also so early in the battle. As I remember, summoning requires a decent amount of chakra, which we know Kakashi doesn’t have a lot of reserves. Though Kakashi might’ve just screwed up too I guess. I can’t help but think he has this battle panned out still.
Also when he leapt out of the ground and got near Pein’s chest, notice that the necklace was directly in the line of fire. Might have something to do with the reaction of the Asura realm?
Also inspired by comment 95, the 3rd Kazekage needed his iron sand as a medium for his jutsu and I can’t help but feel that the necklace and the rods in the bodies are connected, and in the same way as the iron sand was needed for the Kazekage’s jutsu the rods and the necklace are the medium for Pein’s ability.
My guess is that by now, Kakashi has developed more abilities with his Sharingan. Maybe he has Ametasaru (sp) and it evaporated the nail. I don’t see him dying quite yet. I wonder what were some of the abilities that his dad had. Maybe he pulls out a trick of Sakumo Hatake. Great post Bob
kakashi won’t die but he could possibly be injured read bad…for the nail causing a head wound…or for over using the MS. So im thinking that watever the case might be the battle between kakashi and pein is about to come to an end next chapter. Unless guy or somebody comes into the pic.
im hoping like most that it is a genjutsu. kakashi always has a bada@#$ trump card up his sleeve so maybe this is part of it…but like i said in my last post it will all come to and end next chapter cuz as someone pointed out…it looks like he is using his MS, which drains chakra faster then the regular sharighan and kakashi already used half of his chakra
#98 kakashi having developed more skills for his MS is possible. If he has i don’t think it would be more than one new ability, for the simple fact that we haven’t seen if master the MS by itself yet. Like a said a new ability is very possible but i would still be hard for him to control.
Hehe, weird connection and a far stretch. Of the three imperial regalia, two were the items placed on the the tree in front of the cave where the goddess Amaterasu had hidden to lure her out. They were the mirror, which was wielded by Susanno when Itachi summoned him, and I believe that the Necklace is worn by Pein. Maybe the flames of Amaterasu will be coaxed out by the appearance of the third sacred object…could explain the blood, the posture Kakashi took in the final shadow frame, like he was in pain. Kakashi still had his eyesight, which is all he’d need to use the Amaterasu. Though this leaves a problem with something we recently learned…if he does indeed discover Amaterasu, how’s he gonna turn it off?
But Shinto mythology is something Kishi follows.
I don’t think Kakashi’s ability will be Amaterasu. Every MS has its own techniques, and the only reason Sasuke has the Amaterasu is because of Itachi.
The whole situation with Demon Realm was bugging me so i reread the last chapeter and noticed something that might explain things.Before kakashi could connect with his attack, kishi did a close up on peins right eye(pg.11), this could of been when he used his abilites to move Demon Realm.And to back up the possibility that kakashi activated a genjutsu, kishi also does a close up on his sharighan(pg.13). kakashi ripping through demon Realm could have been a distraction of some sort.

Well, I mean, Kakashi DID develop a technique with the Sharingan even though it wasn’t his, the attack he used on Deidara. I just have trouble seeing how just because it isn’t his, means that he couldn’t awaken the Amaterasu.
And could somebody quote where it says that each Mangekyo has it’s own set of abilities? All I remember is that each Mangekyo takes on it’s own shape. I’m sure you guys are right though…I mean it makes sense that he’d have his own techniques, I just wanna see where Kishi quotes that statement in the manga.
I guess Kakashi will show a new genjutsu or his black hole MS. I dont think he show more than one MS jutsu, because he already at half of his chakra reserve.
So wait, let me see here…God Pain has two abilities? The first one was making rain fall like we saw earlier before the fight with Jiraiya, and now gravitational force. Can someone explain to me how he can have two abilities because I thought the pain bodies only have one for each. E= Mc 2 rules!!
I think pain is slightly stronger than kakashi because he has the Re’ningan. I also think kakashi would of been alot stronger if he didn’t have the sharingan because it use most of his chakras. Becuz he was not born with the sharingan it’s automaticly activate with no off switch and that is the main reason it takes so much chakra off of him. But the reason kakashi is still alive is becuz of his sharingan, he can see his opponent movement. Therefore he can copy their jutsu and counter attack. Pain has the Re’ningan so he can master all 6 element that is probably why he has the advantage over kakashi right now. What if he didn’t have the Re’ningan eye and kakashi didn’t have the sharingan? then who would be the strongest? but in the naruverse those who have the ninja tools uses the tools in a fight. Now how old is Pain? or God Pain that is. He looks like he is about as old as kakashi. Imagine if he is still alive what a pair those two would of make, huh.
Some of you need to learn a simple lesson: Don’t trust Wikipedia!!! It is good for a lot of things that almost no one cares about but there are people who spend the time to put misleading facts about the shinto religions on wiki just so they tie in to naruto. Try to look farther than wiki once you see whats there.
On Pein’s abilities, 1. either Pein’s body switch changed his ability or 2. he has multiple abilities in this body because it’s special (Yahiko [sp]) or 3. The body has multiple abilities as all good ninja do.
On the magnetism, it should be noted that while he did affect kakshi, who he had injected with the rod, he also affected ninja he hadn’t hit (The other five he battled) also he affected objects that were inanimate (lacking chakra) so either he has four abilities one for chakra/repulsion, chakra/attraction, physical/repulsion, and physical/attraction or his abilitiy has a physical property that canceled out the physical reaction to kakashi’s chakra (like resonating magnetism)
I don’t think you need to say you can’t trust Wikipedia, but it’s safe to say every fact you get from it should be taken with a grain of salt. I’m seriously guilty of using wikipedia as my main source in naruto theory research…but at the same time I look at pages that I assume haven’t been touched by Narutards just trying to get their 5 minutes of fame, but then again I have no way of knowing if the information is accurate. The Shinto religion yeah, wow, I’ve visited that page a lot.
I assume that if something I have quoted or derived from Wikipedia is inaccurate people who recognize my error will correct me. If I were writing a blog I’d definitely confirm my sources and do some thorough research, but for small posts on forums like this, for the sake of convenience, I think Wikipedia is an ok resource for these quick blurbs and references.
At this point there are dozens of awesome theories circulating, and I think I’ll just sit back and wait for the next chapter unless I absolutely have to jump in due to an intriguing post.

Earth element is weak aganist lighting so therefore earth is strong against…wats left in the 6 element jutsu? “Gravity?” make sense anyone? Gravity can’t move earth right maybe there is hope for kakashi yet.

Although you may disagree with me, let me make some things clear.
1. Kakashi is not the strongest genjutsu user. We have only seen him use genjutsu twice, the first time while testing the genins of the later Team 7 and the second time when putting to trial the skills of Sakura and Naruto in the beginning of Part 2. All we now he has done with his Sharingan that seems like genjutsu is the hypnosis it causes. I don’t know if in the movies he has shown any genjutsu, but anyway, his is not a mortal one. Yet we may ignore if he has learned some very cool genjutsu that he might have used. Still it remains unlikely that he used genjutsu.
2. Since my dad is a physics college professor, I can confirm that magnetism is indeed the force of attraction and repulsion of mass and energy. As an analogy, positively charged poles in a magnet attract negatively charged poles, but repel like charge poles. Gravity proves a remarkable example of magnetic attraction between bodies, where a larger body, the Earth, attracts a smaller body, us and everything that surrounds us. As for magnetic repulsion, all that is known so far is that like charges repel each other, yet repulsion forces continue to be theoretically existent because for every reaction there must an equal but opposite reaction. However, no consistent proof of repulsion forces have come to float in human knowledge. Some scientists have hypothesized that the forces that keep celestial bodies and systems separated are repulsive, which in reality, have to do more with charges than with mass.
Relating to the energy-mass equation, Einstein established mass and energy in the universe are constant and therefore interchangeble. A small amount of mass can become an unreasonably substantial amount of energy.
3. Naruto is not coming soon. Remember what Fukasaku said. Fusion is the most part of the training. If what we’ve seen so far has been a lot, then this will be freaking longer. Fukasaku wants to teach Naruto all he has for him, plus I guess he still has to tell Naruto about his father and the scroll frog deal.
4. Kakashi only feasible or known escape to this is his MS vortex. Probably the nail was sucked in it. Recall that he told the Akimichi’s in chapter 422 that he had made preparations already. I know that you might say that Kakashi only set up that freaking chain. However, he said that he would be able to save chakra. Chakra for what? Maybe to capture Pain but how? Summoning his dogs? Don’t forget that Kakashi is genius and see beyond time in battle. We might have planned something marvelous in case of failure, provided that he was aware that the chance to hit Pain was limited.
By the way, Kakashi will not die. Nonetheless, he will not prevail. Kishi will lose enormous rating by doing so.
Guys, I guess you should see this translation from Sleepy Fans. It sheds light more on Kakashi’s death. At the end it says “What did Kakashi leave behind?”

Mangahut implies that Kakashi’s chidori was too late. Basically they were not quick enough between attacking and Pein’s next interval of his attack…

Also, if you look at the position of the speech bubbles it does seem more likely that Pein is talking in the top left followed by Kakashi speaking. Rather than Kakashi having that whole caption.
“Now you will know Pain” Seems like something Pein would and has said in the past (i’m not going to refer back because I know the devout Narutards will know this!). But if you think about it, getting a nail/bullet through the head is nearly certain death… So bearing in mind what Pein has just said, that could just be the beginning of the ‘Pain’ that is going to be inflicted on Kakashi. Saying that, this could mean that Kakashi does have an eye taken out. If so, I would like it if it was his normal eye so he has to have his Sharingan activated at all times! But that would mean his chakra reserves would be even less.
Does anyone know if it is possible to train and increase your chakra reserves (excluding sage mode)? I guess not otherwise a genius like Kakashi would have taken advantage of this.

Apparently, according to the latest spoilers, he is dead. Nevertheless, we are left with another cliffhanger at the end of the chapter. Maybe one of Tsunade’s slugs gets there to replenish his chakra.
It would the death without flashbacks, without even thoughts and dreams. That is not very much like Kishi. This is the only sign that Kakashi may survive. But since Kishi said something big was gonna happen to him, then if he survives there would not be as big as his death ’cause he can do no more to help the village, other than the information he got.
What makes feel really angry with Kishi is that all he made Kakashi achieve before his probable demise is discover God Pein’s ability. That is all he did. Great.
I don’t remember anyone pointing this out so I’ll just go ahead. Did anyone wonder how Choji and his dad got defeated and Kakashi burried under rubble?
There’s just one thing that’s clear to me. And that’s when Kakashi forces his chidori through Demon Realm’s chest, we can see his head and shoulders detaching and a lot of projectiles being uncovered. My bet is God Realm detonated Demon Realm right in Kakashi’s face in order to save himself from the chidory.
Now if you remember Deidara’s self destruction technique, I guess I don’t have to further out the fact that it must have been a hell of a blast. God Realm just hid in his little cozy barrier, but the rest weren’t so lucky. I still don’t know how Kakashi escaped that one with just being buried under rubble. Maybe it was just another clone, and that’s why Pein makes a point of whether the buried Kakashi is not a clone, but the real thing.
hey everyone i was just wondering what ever happened to kakashis chakra blade? it use to be his primary weapon when he was younger. considering sasuke can run his chidori thru his sword i wud of suspected kakashi to hav dun the same. it wud be pretty mean if naruto had sword a 2, anyway cant wait til the next chapter i wonder wats gonna happen.

you will see a patch of akatsuki robe lying on the ground. it would mean his attack was successful but was later repelled by god realm’s power. and pein just points out to kakashi that he will not get tricked again by the same jutsu.

i agree with kakashi being wounded badly but it could also mean something big is about to happen because if that’s the case then it would only mean someone will replace him. hmm… i wonder who?

i was just thinking, wat if naruto does a kakashi? in saying that here is a theory wat if naruto arrives to late to help kakashi? where he and sakura arrive to the battle and see him dying and for his last wish is 4 his sharingan to go to naruto and sakura puts it in. with narutos chakra reserves it wud benefit him a lot . in saying that i hope naruto never has a sharingan bcos i hope he defeats him just by his skill and by no cheapy eye techniques. i believe if sasuke didnt hav a sharingan he wud a lot weaker than naruto, in comparison he wud be nothing to him!

i made an interesting discovery!
i’ll prove to you that danzou IS madara.
1st of all in tobi’s(or madara’s) story he said that the three elders ordered itachi to kill and wipe out his entire clan. which danzou was one of them. next madara participated in the killing of the uchiha. another is his mask. the position of tobi’s mask is a hole on the right. in which when he went hiding in the anbu, his mask was like that. in which danzou has his right eye covered. last and most important, danzou likes to be the hokage. hmm.. sounds fishy but they all add up. though i’m intrigued about his right eye being covered. could it be that he only has the EMS in the right eye only? what happened?

it would be so cool if Naruto had a sharingan and he have more chakra reserve to handle it but I really really hope that wouldnt be.
Kakashi is more important as his teacher.
