Naruto Chapter 422: The Taste of Pain

Alright! The fight between Kakashi and Pein is finally intensifying as Kakashi prepares to go on the offensive. There’s no mention of Naruto or Fukaku in this chapter, but since Danzo killed the messenger frog last chapter, we can only assume they are still oblivious about what is happening in Konoha. But I still believe Naruto will make a grand return and save the day later on, mainly because it’s pretty much what all the fans want and Kishimoto should know this 
On the other battle fronts, we see Konan and the other Peins in action briefly. Konan and the rest of the reconnaissance team are going around forcing information about Naruto’s whereabouts from captured Leaf ninjas, and then ruthlessly murdering them if they refuse to say or simply don’t know.
It’s been over three years since Orochimaru’s attack on Konoha, and I’m not sure if the village has recovered much of its military strength since then. With the loss of so many men during Pein’s attack, Konoha will likely be left in a very weak state again even if they manage to kill Pein or drive him off. But with Akatsuki basically declaring war on all the countries by capturing their Jinchuurikis, it could turn out that all the rival villages will seek to band together to fight Akatsuki rather than take advantage of each other’s weakness. And the meeting of Kages being called by the Raikage will be a useful starting point for the Kages to discuss how their villages can cooperate to defeat a common enemy.
One of the reasons why Konoha became very weak after Orochimaru’s attack was because the Third Hokage was killed in the fight. I think this is one of the reasons why Tsunade is not willing to go out into battle personally, and instead summons her slug in order to provide healing to the wounded in the village. If Tsuande were to fall, then the village will be in greater danger because someone like Danzo would probably take control for himself. Tsunade knows this and that’s why she has chosen a supporting role in this crisis.
We see a bit of each member of Pein’s group (except Animal and Human Realm) doing their own terrorizing around Konoha. Konan going around making toilet paper mummies out of all the Leaf ninja. But it’s death by paper cuts if they don’t have the information she needs. In another part of the village, Hungry Ghost Realm is having a good time feeding off the ninjutsu attacks of a group of Leaf ninja. But if that is the extent of his abilities, then all the Leaf ninja have to do is to attack hand-to-hand or with more conventional weapons – let’s see him absorb an explosive tag. Yet I have this feeling that there’s more to Hungry Ghost’s abilities than just chakra absorption, or else he wouldn’t be fighting alone. We also get a peak at Hell Realm Pein who has summoned some kind of demon lord surrounded by Amaterasu-like black flames in order to interrogate another beaten shinobi. I’m interested to see what his actual abilities are.
The icing on the cake in this chapter comes from Kakashi’s fight with Demon Realm and God Realm Pein. Kakashi figures out quickly that the Peins are somehow sharing their field of vision. He knows he needs some reinforcements, but it’s not like Pein will wait around for him to call for back-up. Demon Realm Pein reveals his true form, a freak with six arms, three faces and a long, flat and serrated tails on his back. Demon Realm, also called Asura Realm (read Shino and Siskin’s blog on Pein and Buddism) is shaped as such because it is the traditional features of the demigod Asura (or Ashura). Similar to Kakuzu and his multiple masks, I wonder if each of Demon Realm’s faces gives him a different ability? Unfortunately, Demon Realm didn’t have any chance to show off his full abilities except using his tail to impale Kakashi. God Realm Pein used a strange technique to draw Kakashi in like he was a rag doll. Kakashi immediately realizes what God Realm Pein’s ability is but won’t share it with us this chapter. Probably the best guess is that it’s some type of chakta manipulation jutsu. We know the black substances Pein uses act as chakra transmitters. Pein could have gained control over Kakashi’s chakra when he stabbed him with one of the black rods at the beginning. Some of the black stuff could have leaked into Kakashi’s blood, thereby allowing Pein to partly control him similar to how he controls his bodies. This would also explain how Pein was able to so perfectly dodge Kakashi’s Raikiri attack earlier.
Kakashi ends up being skewered by the tail of Demon Realm Pein, but I think most people would have realized it was only a clone because Kakashi is far too intelligent to get defeated so easily. Kakashi unveils another useful jutsu of his called Lightning Clone. When the clone is destroyed, it reverts back to electricity and completely toasts the enemy who was nearby. The real Kakashi was still hiding in the rubble of destroyed buildings. While Demon Realm Pein is paralyzed, the timely arrival of Choji and his father pound him into the ground. God Realm seems to have seen it coming and manages to evade from being pancaked. This signals the beginning of Kakashi’s counterattack. But although Demon Realm looks to be pretty much dead, we need to remember how Pein was able to resurrect his bodies after Jiraiya had killed them. In any case, Pein is one enemy Kakashi cannot dare to underestimate.

Anyways, Pein must be really pissed, now that one of his bodies got squished (even though he’s just gonna resurrect it again). It’s kinda creepy that Demon Pein was smilin’ even after he was punched flat… Although his jutsus are gettin’ more and more amazing every time, Pein doesn’t actually seem so tough when the fight isn’t 1against just one person…
And I think Tsunade’s gonna join the fight in one of the next chapters…
i think pein is gonna revive demon pein and i hope we’re gonna see some more people make a big fight like kakashi

I’m really disappointed in this chapter bcoz too short story/scenes (lack of climax)…Especially we didn’t see Naruto progress on his training and when he will arrive back to konoha…

It’s really good decision to tsunade that she should focus on wounded shinobi’s and rely on the squads to fight against Pein…
Kakashi, you prove you’re really genius and acting cool but not enough to defeat Pein 1vs1…But Kakashi have something hide underneath his sleeves and luckily he preserve his chakra for his MS (maybe we will surprise on the next chapter)…and watta nice entrance of 2fat-assess, well done…You pinch that demon realm into pan-cake…it taste good for you chouji…

i was looking forward to seeing Naruto this chapter, but i still like this chapter for a few reasons
1.counter attack has started
2.most of the ninjas standing up for naruto
3.kakashi shows how intelligent he is
4.chouji and his dad came to the rescue in a big way
i believe at least 1-2 more bodies will die, and maybe capture a body and i think pein will retreat and then that would be the fall out between madara and pein
Hmm.. I just realized.. . Demon Pein is actually just a cheap super weak (and uglier) imitation of Zoro…

boring chapter i thought i was gonna see naruto. i dont think thats the end of demon pain i think he got more than that. and choji and his father came just in time b4 kakashi made preparations for the mongekyou. i didnt like the chapter (no naruto)
I think that demon realm isnt that easy to beat down. The hell realm isnt around to resurrect him but I think a punch isnt enough.
Its interresting that Kakashi store his chakra and instead that he analys pein, a good tactic.
Similar to Shika, if you know that you cant beat your opponent with rude attacks, find his weak points.

As always, we get a nice and balanced mix of observations and insights from Bob sama. I agree with the fact the the future gathering of the 5 Kages will definitely have an impact on what course of action shall be taken against
Akatsuki. I think the Raikage will have a radical suggestion, and since most of the countries have been suffering looses since Akatsuki has started to move, the other Kages might actually agree. It would be legendary to see a battle of the Kages against Akatsuki. I don’t even want to start thinking about smth like that :p
I’m going to split my comments on the last post/chapter of Naruto in more chunks so it doesn’t take up that much space. First of all in this chapter on page 13 at the bottom we can see the focus being put on Pain’s right eye while he was empowering the effects of his eye jutsu. And if you remember, in the previous chapter on page 14 you can see a highlighting of Pain’s left eye, just after he repelled Kakashi’s lightning dog. So this determined me to think that the rinnegan works like the mangekyou sharingan, more speciffically that it has specific techniques connected to each eye. For example Itachi’s left eye controlled Tsukuyomi, and his right eye controlled Amaterasu. But Itachi posessed an eveolved state of the sharingan, so this brings me again to the fact that the rinnegan might also have different states of evolution, and that the one that Pain has is at least equal (in terms of evolution) or higher than the mangekyou sharingan.
Secondly, I’d like to further my theory and point out that if Pein’s left eye was able to
teleport air under a very high pressure and manipulate it in order to fit defense/combat
needs, his right eye as we have seen in this chapter has the ability to teleport void.
And again, just like with his left eye technique he is able to control how much void
is teleported, determining more or less suction power. The first time he teleported a
high quantity of compressed air, as you saw everything on maybe a 100 square feet radius
was leveled. Even Choji’s dad and their team were able to see the blast from far away.
But the second time he only teleported a quantity that was necessary to dissipate the
lightning dog. That means he can control the amount and level of compression of both the
air and void teleportation jutsus.
Another thing that surprised me was the fact that Pain used his hand in order to focus the void on Kakashi. This may indicate one of the flaws of his techniques. Because as you remember he didn’t move a muscle before, but the distance between him and his target was also very small, about 1-2m. This could mean that the higher the distance between him and his opponent the more effort (physical and chakra wise) would have to be put into the technique in order to obtain the desired effect. Even so, simply stretching an arm and pulling something from almost 30m away is still very impressive. Speed wise the need for Pein to use his arms could create an opening in case of a faster counter attack, but otherwise it represents no major drawback compared to the eye only activation of the jutsu.
I’m really curious about Kakashi’s observations on Pain’s techniques, and since the next chapter is entitled Capture Pain, we might find out a lot more about his eye techniques. I don’t know how many know about L from Death Note, but I’d say Kakashi’s observation abilities are at least on the same level or higher than L’s investigative abilities, and those would be TOP KNOTCH (:
Also, it was really nice to see the presentation of the abilities of the other bodies of Pain, thus completing the circle of the six. Since the beginning of the battle, we got to see the new Animal Realm who, like the previous, specializes in summoning. We saw Demon Realm who seems to be something similar to one of Sasori’s puppets (full of weapons, explosives and gadgets). We even get to see a transformation in his fight against Kakashi (which I think should be subject to a larger discussion). But most Interesting would be the abilities of Human Realm (soul extraction) and Hell Realm who seems to have summoned a hellish monster (reminds me of the Tengu Demon). I couldn’t help but notice and agree with Bob sama that the black fibers/flames around it look a lot like the flames of Amaterasu. And I keep wondering what the symbol on his forehead means. Hell Realm could prove to be quite a problem for the ninjas of Konoha.
yappari…everything was pretty much covered.the one thing that stood out for me is that hell realms pain person eyes were actually vivible in the real world.
and i dont see how i missed that chouji and his dad would come to the rescue.BECAUSE they were shown towards the end of the last chapter.
After this attack, Konoha will be defenitly in a weak state but I dont think as Bob already said that the other villages will prey this situation.
In the anime that is the third big attack, how would Konoha will detect this new attack
Hmm… Wadali made a good point in saying that everybody’s standin’ up for Naruto. I few years back that wouldn’t have happened. This only shows that Naruto really is Hokage material, since he finally managed to gain the ninja’s and vilaggers’ trust…
Also, next weeks’ chapter is supposed to be named: “Capture Pein”. Sounds unbelieveable enough, I doubt he could be caught that easily…
The demon realm reminds me of a mix beetween Sasori, Kakazu and one of Kankuros puppets.
I´m courios what the demon realm shows the next chapter, because kishi wouldnt show his true form and than let him die whitout to show his true power.
I think it need more than a bunch of chapters to show all 6 peins abilitys.
Well, next week’s chapter is called “Capture Pein”, not “Pein is Captured”. There’s a difference.
i like the fact that tsunade is healing people instead of fighting pain because if she falls the village will be in a weaker state. even more than it was when the 3rd died. she is the best choice to lead the village and go to the kage meeting after this attack. people say kakashi would be a good hokage but he does not seem the type to be hokage. he is to lazy and does not seem interested in the title as jiriaya was. also hopefully chouji and his father did not kill the multi-face and arms pain because if jiriaya got killed by them it just seems he was weak because a couple of ordinary shinobie killed a pain body. it is naruto’s duty to kill pain and all his puppets.
Its a controversial subject that Tsunade dont act personally. In my opionion its the duty of the Hokage to protect the village, but to heal the wounds isnt a active act, its more a support or help.
And I ask myself why the elders or Jiraya choose Tsunade, when she isnt that powerful in a direct fight.
Its right that she shouldnt risk her live for nothing but then she should apply for the medical chief.
I think Kakashi is smarter and better in tactical understanding than tsunade.
And with his MS and copy ability he have more options to attack.
But maybe Tsunade shows some new jutsus in the next chapters.
I’m somewhat glad that we can slowly exclude the possibility that one of the Pains will stumble on either the interrogation or autopsy squads. God, Demon and Hungry Ghost realms each have 2 or more shinobi around them. Animal realm’s summon has been defeated by Sakura so we could expect a battle between the two. But Konan, Human and Hell realms have not been discovered and are still gathering/slaughtering. But the sole fact that neither the dead Pain in the autopsy or the Hokage have not been directly targeted from the beginning might suggest that they will remain safe for the time being. Hope they will
tusnades strengh is definetly her medical skills she is not that great at fighting so shes probably saving more lives by healing people than she would by fighting.
the people are not standing up for naruto theyre jist defyong pein also most of them probably dont know where naruto is.

I think tactictal behavior isnt his strength
Why its so difficult to kill Konan, I thougt you need only a fire or water element based nin and the work would be done.
Jiraya could defeat her with only one jutsu.
Some people said that Kakashi wouldnt be good enough to be hokage but think about how strong he would be when he reach Tsunades age.
He is very good in creating jutsus, and he can handle almost 5 elements plus the MS.
I guess he would be stronger than Jiraya or Sarutobi if he reach their age.
naruto after his sage training is done he will probably be stronger and outclass kakashi in every area. and naruto is a very good tactician he has proven it in many battles. he is not as dumb as he seems. chouji even mentioned after naruto hits Kakuzu that naruto was as smart as shikumaro and he should know he spends most of his time with him.
Naruto had some good ideas.
But that wasnt what I wanted to say, if Naruto have some healing abilitys and he would be hokage, he would choose to attack and not to stay at the backround. That was what I meant with tactical behavior, most of the time Naruto let his feelings control his activitys.

Tsunade rules as well, i mean she is the hokage and everyone expect her to confront Pein, but comon she is a medic and she gotta save as much ninjas as she can, and its kool to see how much chakra she has reserved and contributed to each slugs and heal everyone.
We will see Tsunade fight Pein reali soon, but right around that moment Naruto will come and finish up the job, i dont think we gonna loose Tsunade coz madara/Sasuke is left and somone gotta die wen they attack
A few things…
1. Asura pein reminds me of both hidan’s fight with chiyo at the fire temple and Kankuro’s puppets.
2.Deamon Light: You forgot that only the hokage, Raikage and kazekage could team up to fight Madra/Pein because both Madra and Pein are kages Rain/Mist, The village in the rocks hates the leaf and while we no nothing of the grass/waterfall ninja, orochimaru’s servents will serve Saskue if anyone. My theory on pein’s ability is that the god pein can use attraction/repulsion. The reason pein had to raise his hand to attack kakashi is because he needed to guide the attraction technique but he didn’t before because he used his body as the center of the repulsion technique. I also agree with you about the eye’s having multiple abilities and my theory explains this. Also You seem unable to destinguish between Void and air chakra and should read some of the explanations.
3. Animal Realm did make an apperance this chapter (In the form of a giant fish attacking a building)
4. Naruto is all about generations surpassing each other but right now, Tsunade beats kakashi because he has so little chakra. He has even said in the past that this is his one weakness, and what a weakness this is because he can’t use most S rank techniques. Naruto is also still weaker than both of them because he lacks experience (I sound like I’m atacking Paolin), diverse jutsu, and because most of his jutsu are self-destructive.
Hidan’s battle with Chiriku* not Chiyo
I forgot one thing: WTF happened to Danzo? He commited treason and yet after he kills the frog it skips to tsunade summoning her slug!
At that moment I didnt see that Tsunade surpass Sarutobi or Minato.
Maybe she will show me that I´m wrong, but what she already showed isnt enough to surpass the 3th and 4th.
UH, Tsunade can’t really be compared to them because her technique’s are so different. She is one of the few people that doesn’t really have a mentor.
One last thing before I go to bed: Above Demon Light mentioned a corelation between Pein’s eye and attack style, I think that mabey each of Asura’s eight eye’s might have a different attack, and that one might let him survive this
If you say that that following generation always surpass the previous, you have to compare Tsunade with the 3th and the 4th.
And the mentor of orochimaru, jiraya and tsunade was sarutobi.
the 4th is after tsunades generation so he was more powerful than her and the three sanin if it is said that the next generation surpasses the previous one. and naruto will surpass them all.

i think naruto will make it in time but not till after kakashi and sakura shine. because kishi said that he would write about them after sasuke and by the looks of the last couple of chapters kakashi is know receiving the spotlight and his arc may just have started. and after a few more chapter about him, i guess it will be sakura’s turn maybe she will fight konan. and after this happens naruto will make his return to save the day. we may not see naruto again until he returns to fight pain.

not necessarily, Naruto_Fan. you see, the 3rd didnt choose any of the Sannin to be the 4th Hokage because………….well………….none of them where there. Just think about it: Orochimaru was an evil traitor that left, Tsunade was a gambling drunk that left, and Jiraiya was a pervy sage that was traveling. So its not that the 4th was stronger than the 3 sannin, he was just the next best choice.

I just want to say that I am really pissed that Pein is messin up poor Konaha. I mean, they havent really recovered and this jerk comes and messes it up even more. There are so many ppl not being noted as fighting that it is ridiculous. but then again, it is hard to mention so many ppl when you only got 18-19 pages to do so. but where the hell is everyone? Hinata, Neji, Ten Ten, Shino, Gai, Lee, Kiba…….all of them. Its like no one is there. And why hasnt the Sand Village gotten there? they are usually the first ones there. and where the hell are those ninjas from the cloud county? they need to hurry up and get there so they can help too. and for the love of Kages…..Where the **** is Naruto?!?!?!?!?!? DANZOU I KEWLLL YOUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i still cant believe that Danzou killed that poor little froggy. WHAT A DOUCHE!!!!!!!!! but karma will kick him in the nuts for that. cause you know how the saying goes: If you kill a frog with goggles, karma will kick you in the balls…………………………….

You have an interesting theory mart1 about attraction/repulsion, and I’d like to hear more about how you think they work. Does Pain attract living beings, or does he use a magnetic effect. And how does the repulsion jutsu work? How did he destroy a small part of Konoha through repulsion, practically speaking?
About me needing to learn more about how to distinguish between “Void and air chakra”, as far as I know there are only 5 types of chakra: earth, water, wind, fire and lightning. There is no void natured chakra. And by air I guess you were referring to wind. But I’d like to read some of the explanations you were talking about. Some links would be nice (:
And regarding your comments, the fish you are talking about, if you look more closely, you will realize that it’s an ornamental statue, not one of Animal Realm’s summons. And just a small thing, Demon Realm only has 3 pairs of eyes (6 eyeballs) at the end of the chapter.

here is my prediction
Even though i think she shouldn’t, Tsunade will realize that Naruto isn’t coming anytime soon. So as she tries to leave the building the old gezers come out and suggest she dosen’t , while they are explaining why she shouldn’t she may or may not knock one of them threw the wall.
Back at toad mountain Naruto is practicing his newly learned Senjutsu and feels he is doing well. Then Naruto felt something really odd!!!
Back where Kakashi, Choji, and his dad are fighting Pein. Currently Pein has the upper hand , and it seems as if they are doomed for….. Tsunade Shows up and sends Pein half way to hell when she knocks him into the ground, but of course he isn’t dead. Kakashi (currently getting healed by Tsunade) says shouldn’t you be at the Hokage mansion leading the village. Tsunade answers (in a dramatic sort of way) my place is out here, there was no more i could do by just sitting in that office. Then Kakashi will say “good point”(one of Kakashi’s well known catch phrases, think back he said this more times than you think.). Now Kakashi and Tsunade Teams up and open up a can of WHOOP A** on god realm Pein.
BUT OH NO KAKASHI IS ABOUT TO BE KILLED THEN…..BAM!!!! Tsunade gets in the way and takes the blow. She thought if she took the hit she would be able to heal herself but she already used up all of her chakra and her diamond forhead technique. Kakashi, Ahh sturck, takes Tsunade to away to a safer location. As Kakashi is taking her away she has flashbacks on her life. When Kakashi puts her down, Tsunade tells Kakashi she won’ t be able to make it and has something important to tell him (He moves closer and she whispers something in his ear) he is suprised by what she says. A little later the newly revived Demon Realm Pein with unbelieveable speed is hurtiling right for Kakashi when……
RASENGAN, naruto shows up out of nowhere with a powerful rasengan sending Demon Realm Pein in the opposite direction. Now God Realm Pein is pissed about Demon Realm Pein being defeated again. Naruto turns to Kakashi and Kakashi asks “i thought you were training at Toad Mountain” Naruto responds “while i was practicing senjutsu I sensed a destubance in nature that was in the direction of the village.” Then Naruto asks “what’s going on here”, all Kakashi does is move to the side and revel Tsunade’s brutally beaten body.
Naruto rushes over sobbing “Grandma no” (Naruto drops a few tears) while Kakashi goes over to Naruto and talk to him Pein is tired of people always coming in and ruining his plans and defeating his counterparts so he decides to go over and finish the job once and for all. Naruto sits there as if he didn’t believe what was going on was acually true. then God Realm Pein appears from nowhere behind Naruto and swings for him.
Kakashi appears and blocks the swing and manages to push Pein backwards. Kakashi tells Naruto ” Move and now isn’t the time to sulk.” but Naruto isn’t crying he just sits there with no whimpers, no tears, no moving, nothing, Naruto is still squatting over Tsunade’s body totally unresponsive. Kakashi then yells “Naruto mov…” but while Kakashi was talking God Realm Pein comes threw and knocks him into a pile of rubble with a single punch. Naruto still unresponsive Pein bends over and says “THIS IS THE END!!!!” Pein goes in for the hit then right in the middle of it Naruto blocks it with one hand. Pein is totally confused a simple ninja can’t just stop his attack with one hand no less. When Naruto turns around his Eyes are toad like…..WHOO HOOO SENJUTSU.
Then the Kakashi body poofs in a puff of smoke
Then the Tsunade body poofs in a puff of smoke
(the ooh yeah i fooled you music is playing)
Tsunade’s recently healed body well and alive body steps over the cliff of rubble with Sakura and Kakashi. Pein is unnatually confused he attempts to escape but he can’t move. He turns to see why and there’s Shikamaru and his favorite catchphrase “check-mate”
Pein demands an explanation Sakura steps forward and says that she was on her way to The Hokage Mansion to report that all of the civilians are safe, and to her suprise Tsunade wasn’t there, one of the elders told Sakura “that crazy b**** ran off to fight.” Then Shikamaru says that’s where I showed up to let Tsunade know about our recent discovery and since they were both looking for now they decided to go together. Then Kakashi steps forward and says that when he took Tsunade’s beaten body to a safe place Sakura and Shikamaru showed up to make sure everything was alright and that’s when we devised this plan I created two shadow clones , one for me another for Tsunade, and left the real Tsunade in the capable hands of Sakura .
Naruto says after that I showed up and since I really wasn’t part of the plan Kakashi decided to fill me in and let me help out . Then Naruto says “NOW THIS IS THE PART WHERE I BEAT THE BRAKES OFF YOUR SORRY A**.
after that you can just imagine what happens next because im tired of typing, if you take the time to read this let me know what you think

It was a sweet chapter.Man Demon Realm Pain seems a dangerous weirdo!And now our copy Ninja did his magic.Kakashi seems to have found Pain’s secret and as soon as the rest ninjas learn from Kakashi and the others they should be able to give some hard time to Pain.The next chapter’s title was little mysterious “Capture Pain” ???? I mean come now.Kishi probably ment attack Pain or sth.
Oh Demon realm pain was smashed on the ground .He seems dead but Pain is one trick enemy.And the lighting clone is not a new techinque.There clones for each element.Water clones , Lighting clones, Earth clones etc.
Regarding your comment Yeshua, I think Jiraya is dead, but like you I always wondered what happened to his body. One thing is for sure. It hasn’t left Rain Village. So my guess is that we might have a really nasty surprise one day. A Jiraya Pain/akatsuki controlled puppet. And I say this because Jiraya had either fought or interacted (Yahiko) with every one of Pain’s current bodies. And they were all turned into The Real Pain’s bodies.
That’s a really long shot, but it definetely is one of the possibilities.
And about Orochimaru, we all know he never died. First he was sealed by Sasuke within himself, and eventually let out during the fight with Itachi. And then sealed again within the Sword of Totsuka. So he is still very much alive just sealed somewhere within the power of Susanoo. Maybe Madara or Sasuke will let him out some day. Who knows… :p
A chapter without Naruto is pretty much annoying to me, however a few things beg mentioning:
1. I believe Pein is going to realise that he has a lot on his plate soon enough, mean right now he is overstretching himself and I believe that soon enough he will have to call upon all six bodies to fightin concert and that is when the real power of Pein will be revealed.
2. Kakashi really is something, definitely 6th material. I mean a lightening clone to both paralyse demon realm and give him an opportunity to assess the situation and store his chakra… top stuff!
3. Tsunade will probably start looking pretty old just now, saggy tits and all, I mean remember she only looks young because she uses a chakra manipulaiton technique, to rejuvenate her body and with all the chakra she is giving out to heal the citizens of Konoha we will start seeing more Granny Tsunade and not Princess Tsunade.
4. I think that what she’s doing makes more sense than actually fighting. Konoha has many skilled ninja but her medical ninja abilities are unparalled (well Sakura is coming along swimmingly) and as a result healing makes more sense right now.
I agree with you IO, where are the others.

The Anbus are one of the most skilled nins but I didnt see anyone of them.
What about Danzou, is he in jail or did Tsunade punch him down.
I agree with everyone that we haven’t seen enough of our favorite nins. But in regard to this I’d like to point out a few things.
In chapter 20 pages 16 and 17 we can see that immediately after the Peins and Konan landed and started devastating/attracting attention, we can notice that most of the shinobi become aware that there is a situation. We can see the Code-Breakers division (Sakura, Shikamaru and Shiho-Chan), and just after Demon Realm starts with the explosions frenzy, we can see Shino, Kiba, Hinata, Ino and Choji who become aware of the presence of an enemy.
Now this happens in maybe little more than a few minutes. My point is that there hasn’t been that much time for everyone to mobilize, and even though they might be fast to get to the hot spots, they first needed to analyze the situation before making a move.
I can bet anything that Kakashi stood and watched what Pein would do with Iruka and only stepped in when it was crucial for his survival.
Furthermore in chapter 21 page 11 we get a clear picture with everyone setting a plan of action. Sakura is with the medical team, Shikamaru is with his dad (definitely setting up a smart counter) and Choji is also with his dad, soon to reach the location of Kakashi. Again I’m positive that these also watched carefully while Kakashi was fighting and waited for an opening to step in and make their move.
Everyone is helping out in one way or the other. Keep in mind that a lot of citizens have to be evacuated, which also takes priority. The only ones we haven’t seen are Guy and his team (might be somewhere on a mission), Yamato and Sai. Hope Sai won’t do anything stupid under Danzo’s orders.

kukuku It seems someone didn’t pay attention, i.o… Orochimaru left exactly because Sarutobi appointed Minato as the 4th Hokage. Not because Minato was the only one available… And all 3 sannins were still in the village back then…
Also, about Jiraiya, I think Pein has absolutely no intention of making Jiraiya his body. He would’ve already done it.
It seems that Pein likes using bodies who have special features – weird attributes that seem like kekkei genkai.

Actually, there are 6 elements. (Jiraiya said so during his fight with Pein) The most common suggestion is that the 6th element is void, but it’s still uncertain. As for the links.. Here:

Kakashi said that only Naruto is able to surpass the 4th, what could mean that he was stronger than the 3 sanins and believe that Naruto would be stronger than Sasuke. I think that Kakashi meant only the Konoha nins. Hope we see more flashbacks of Minato so we can really see how strong he was.

Deamon light: there is dark/light manipulation type jutsu such as shadow clones and choji’s expansion jutsu. Void is a part of dark chakra. Examples of this are tobi/the 4th’s teleportation jutsu and all summoning jutsu. See J-sama’s links.
Yeshua: If you want to see naruto being tactical then watch any major non-saskue fight, for example, he found neji’s weakness was underground attacks, he took out garra’s tail, and he avoided all of hidan’s attacks by using shadow clones as reconasance. Also Fusaku won’t let the kyubii have senjutsu because the combined power would wipe kohana off the map, just think of the orochimaru/kyubii fight.
a chapter without naruto is annoying i agree. i what to see more of his jutsu and how his training is progressing. but we may not see him until he come back to the village to fight pain.
One thing that is weird is no one from the new generation except Chouji has showed up to battle. We have seen glimpses of them getting ready but naruto is all about the next generation surpassing the previous. They got to show there skills and defend Konoha. In this great battle, I suspect some major character will die or a minor one. Anyway someone impotant to Naruto will die or be serverely injured. Could be anyone
I bet though Naruto will arrive to chase Pein out but after the fight is over. Suspect Suna or the Raikages flunkies willl arrive before Naruto
I havent a problem with a chapter without Naruto.
Especial when you can see so many new jutsus from Kakashi and pein, Tsunade shows that she can healing the whole village, demon realm reveals his true form.
God realm showed a limb of his ability maybe we will see the 6th element in the next chapter.
Enough action, alltough Naruto isnt there.
I guess it needs more than 3 chapters until Naruto will be come back.
I dont think that more than one major charakter will die.
But I´m sure we will see all of the next generation, I´m very corious to see Neji and Shikamaru will handle this situation.
team 8 should be killed by pain they seem to be the weakest except for shino. of all the rookie 11 . they have no say in the development of the manga. they are good minor character to be killed by pain.

great blog, kakashi jutsus always amazes me especially with the lightning clone paralyzing 1 of the peins. anyways i believe the 4th hokage could defeat all sanins and even if 1 of them did become the 4th hokage minato would have eventually bcome the 5th. he was considered the greatest ninja to come out of konoha! and naruto is very intelligent

i think that kakashi will run out of chakra after using his ms on pein’s body’s and if he uses it too get into the write place pein will lose 1 of his body’s for good he wont b able too get it back. and i think the fat guy’s will hold them still while kaishi gets a breif secound lets hope his master the ms so he can hit the right target because if i rember rightly that last time he did it he said he couldnt aim the ms perfectly. the 5th hokage she will go up agasted pein and wont be able too die in battle as the same as with orchimaru to a certain point then pein retreats. and then pein and mandara comes back together. and then they get naruto back naruto goes after 1 while the hokage goes up agasted up agasted one of them. kakshi and naruto make a good team so i think they’ll team 1 of them and the leaf village will become good but while it happeneds kakshi dies by holding one of them still while naruto uses his forbiden techinque.

I like how Kishi is portraying Tsunade, and I hope the upcoming chapters will reveal how great a shinobi she is. I don’t think though that she will be fighting with Pein (sorry to those who are dying to see her fight). Tsunade is best known for being the best healer in the ninja world, and I think Kishi will focus on that, and we will see that in a gigantic scale in the upcoming chapters. She has just instructed Katsuyu to attach to EVERY NINJA in Konoha and to use HER CHAKRA in healing them. Now, healing just a single person already consumes a lot of chakra. Imagine healing the WHOLE VILLAGE! That is very risky, she could die from exhausting all her chakra. But as she said, she will protect the village no matter what. I think we will be seeing Tsunade in her Granny form again.
Tsunade in my opinion will die but dont expect a quick death, she wont die before naruto gets back and she wont die before she tells naruto of his past
Kishi is slowly taking out the senju bloodline so i gather that konohamoru isnt safe either.
I indeed wish to see the next generation play a more bigger role.

and also, i think not all of our favorite characters will be fighting Pein. as suggested in the previous chapter http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/421/11/ , each shinobi is focusing on where they’re good at. Ino, with her mind capabilities, joined his dad and the interrogation team. Shikamaru, with his analytical skills, together with his dad, were ramping up investigating abt Pein. Choji and his dad, with their strong Physical attacks, joined Kakashi in fighting Pein. And Sakura, well, obviously, she joined the Medical team.

Theory time: Is it possible that Madara actually sent Pein after naruto not because he is the strongest but because he wants to sway the balance of power in his favour? Consider the following:
1. Akatsuki has basically been under pein’s control as madara uses the guise of Tobi, so he needs to realign the members with himself.
2. Their intrinsic goes are fundamentally different and given Pein’s power, Madara would know that he would be a problem in the future.
3. This is why Madara has tried to align himself with Sasuke, in order to have the requisite power to effect a coup d’etat in Akatsuki.

Kazekage-dono, I admit that your theory is possible, but in my opinion it is highly unprobable.
Regarding your first argument, Madara is the one who formed Akatsuki. He has his own goal to accomplish set aside from that of Pain. And he never tried to disguise himself in front of Pein and Konan.
Secondly, we don not know the extent of Madara’s power. But if he knew everything Itachi did, jutsu wise, and still had aces up his sleeve, than my bet is that he is far stronger than Pain.
Madara is the unofficial leader of Akatsuki. See chapter 364 pages 15 to 19, and you will see that Pein is the one ordered around by Madara.
Also Madara is way too smart to not notice smth like the members of Akatsuki preparing for a cup d’etat. Further more if you go against Pain (the official leader) you die whether you’re part of Akatsuki or not.
Just as I thought God Pain wants to finish the fight against Kakashi quickly and double team him. But I didn’t expect Choji and his dad to come to the rescue. I suspect Demon God was odd looking with pretty weird jutsu but this? Now I’m really wondering what he really is. As for Hell God I think his jutsu is probably something like genjutsu because that’s what pain is missing in his abilities that we didn’t see. I’m looking forward to see what new trick Choji’s got up his sleeve, more soldier pills? and Choji’s dad sure look pretty tough himself. Can anybody see a double “Ino, Shika, Cho” coming.

@79 As far as we know, Konohamaru isn’t of the Senju clan, he is just a descendant of the third who was a disciple, not a relative of the 1st and 2nd
wouldn’t it be weird to find out that that body Konan had wrapped up in paper turned out to be more than just a fodder ninja? I mean they were adamant about not revealing info about him. “F*** You” seems like a pretty intense retort for someone who isn’t close to him and is just about to die. I also think it would be a pretty cool surprise.
It would be awsome if Konohamaru get to jump in on the action to fight one of pain’s bodies. I wanna see how strong he’s gotten. I don’t know about you guys but I’m gonna take a big guess whenever this whole thing with Akatsuki ends. Naruto’s gonna have to take that chunin exam again and this time around it’s in the hidden cloud village. Why? because the Raikage will want to thank Konoha for helping them bring down Akatsuki and show them some graditute. So he will place the chunin exam in his village, not only that but he wants to see how strong Konoha ninjas has gotten. Then hopefully we’ll see a Fantasy dream fight between “Naruto vs Konohamaru” for the Chunin rank. But it’s just speculation.
I agree that the other villages are going to unite to help the leaf to fight Pein but I think it is going to happen before Naruto arrives. I also think Danzo is going to try and kill Tsunade.

Pa toad said it takes a month to reach the mountain on foot, only if you know the secret path. What makes you think Naruto will be back anytime soon to save Kakashi’s ass? With no communication frog..Naruto has no real way of getting back to Konoha any faster than a month.
So most likely Naruto won’t be able to save anyone in the village at the time of THIS attack by Pein. I think there should be less relying on one ninja to come around and save everyones asses when there are many more than capable ninjas who can team up to defeat a person like Pein.
I think I have an idea who might come to Konoha’s aid, Gaara and the Sand village seem more likely…and a certain someone we won’t expect.

When the frog died….that means that the communication is cutting but not the summoning.
I guess the “communication frog” its there to report to fukasaku and to alarm him if any happend.
This is a great chapter and I can’t wait for the next! I am happy Kakashi can do A LOT MORE WITH lightning based chakra and other jutsu I hope Pein doesn’t kill Kakashi. I think Tsunade should just heal everyone and maybe she could fight because she could use her knowledge of the human body to defeat the Pein bodies for real!
Please kishi, dont let Kakashi die.
When Jiraya died it was a huge shock….but Kakashi.
Who will teach Naruto if Kakashi dies.
It seems that Naruto already surpass Kakashi, but no one can charge Naruto better than Kakashi.
I can’t wait to see what Sasuke’s going to do when he comes back to the village! I hope he helps the leaf and finally betrays the Akatsuki! I also don’t know what the hell Danzo is doing. He could be taking over the leaf and could be Madara and al I gotta say is he should have killed the little cool frog! I can’t wait to see Naruto but I think thanks to Danzo that he may get to learn a lot more, like more jutsu and speed and power! I just can’t wait for the next one!
I don’t think Naruto fully surpassed Kakashi yet and Naruto is strong but just like JIraiya said the amount of jutsu isn’t important it’s the brains to use them and I think that’s where Kakashi got him but then again Naruto could surprise me!

Okay, so the communication frog is dead. How would Fukusaku or anyone else for that matter be able to know what is happening in Konoha? And I don’t think any of the toads can be summoned bc Naruto is the only person alive that has a pact with the frogs. That would mean that there is nobody in the village that could summon any toads, and that would mean no reverse summoning! OH, and I win.
You know was just thinking about something guys. There has been no one in the series representative of the age of Minato/Kushina.

Where are the people who are Minato’s age? I guess it could be said that all of them perished in the fight with the nine tails. But you think there’d be someone. Now that I think about it, Pein and Konan might be the only other two people Kishi has introduced in the series that might be of Minato’s generation. It’s just a really peculiar thing to me.

in Konoha as Jiraya died. So there must be a other way of teleportion.

You know for reconnaissance its sure quite a huge fuss there and Pein seems so confident he can over take Konoha that easy >> yet there is somekind of weakness there, not to mention that i havent Seen Gai, Kurenai, or the other well known Jonin we know or the Anbu Black ops moving in yet.
Still i dont think Tsunade-sama should go in battle i mean we saw her actions when she fought Orochimaru and look at her! she could barely take on Kabuto back then and was a huge struggle for her there and 3 years later she never trained just sat there all along performing her civic duties as Hokage her strenght may not be enough to take on all the Peins, maybe just Konan lol, not to mention wheres the other girl?
The one that Pein calls her “Konan” too >> i wonder if shes hiding as a trump card.
