Yup, Sasuke’s dead, he’s a goner, he bit the dust and bought the farm. Rest in peace Sasuke… or that’s what I want to say, but alas the guy is still hanging on to life by a thread after being thoroughly pulverized by the Eight-Tails… again. I mean the first time was okay since it was a surprise to Sasuke being pwned by someone in a long time, but now it’s just getting sad. Where is the Sasuke who took down Orochimaru? Where is the Sasuke who fought Itachi toe to toe?
I know some would argue that Sasuke became weaker since he does not have Orochimaru’s Cursed Seal anymore. But in his fight with Itachi, Sasuke did not rely on his Cursed Seal for most of the battle. Sasuke has also gained Itachi’s abilities and his own Mangekyou Sharingan in their place. So why does he still seem so weak?
When Madara proclaimed that he was certain Sasuke will be able to handle the Eight-Tails, I was certain that the outcome of that battle was already decided. I still believe that Sasuke will somehow still defeat the Eight-Tails, but technically he has already failed twice. By failing I mean he has already died twice by the hands of the Jinchuuriki. If it weren’t for the sacrifice of Karin and Jugo, Sasuke would be a cold corpse right now. This is only the 3rd chapter into this battle, and Sasuke has already died twice…. This is not encouraging news. I was hoping to see more of Team Hawk finally fighting together as one unit, but this was not what I expected. Basically, the other members of Team Hawk are Sasuke’s spare lives. Sasuke still seems like the one who does most of the fighting, and if he gets injured he just chews on one his teammates to heal up.
Perhaps Kishi is trying to tell us that despite all the flashy techniques Sasuke has shown in the past, he really hasn’t grown that much stronger in terms of his own strength. He has been relying too much on others’ power and has grown reliant on them and has grown overconfident about his own abilities. It could be that over his nearly three years of training with Orochimaru, Sasuke has become so accustomed with using his Cursed Seal that he has taken it for granted. He gained confidence when he single-handedly took down a severely weakened Orochimaru, and again when he took down Itachi who was already very sick even before their confrontation. But even though Orochimaru’s essence and Cursed Seal has been stripped from him, Sasuke still believes he can achieve the same speed and strength he had before. Sasuke could be losing this battle because he has not come to gripes with the change. He must realize that he can no longer pull off the same risky attacks like he has in the past and expect to come out unscathed. Sasuke needs to learn from his late brother and fight more intelligently by always staying a few steps ahead of the opponent. More than anything else, I think this battle with the Eight-Tails is to teach Sasuke some humility.
One last thing. An Ox/Octopus = Oxtopus? This is one weird tailed beast,, I certainly don’t recall an Oxtopus in any Japanese myths. The surprising thing is that the Jinchuuriki is in complete control of his tailed beast and it even helped him snap out of a genjutsu. This is very good news for Naruto because it means that some day he may be able to completely control his own tailed beast, the Kyuubi. When that happens, Naruto will likely become the most powerful shinobi in the Naruverse.

Naruto is at the point where he’s brining the Kyuubi little by little more and more under control. So much so that he’s trying not to rely on it so much
NAruto has been creating his own kick ass jutsu and working his ass off in his own usual relentless fashion and getting more power for himself. I agree with you Bob if and when NAruto brings Kyuubi under his control and they work as one NAruto will be the most powerful character in Naruverse.
And since I personally see this happening pretty soon for Naruto we’ll be seeing Naruto surpass the Curse-Sealess Sasuke very soon.
Again I agree with Bob with this fight with the 8-tails being a through school of Sasuke. He needs it! I aint a Sasuke hater but he could use the lesson, believe it!!

And i think Madara sent Sasuke to get the 8 tails and knowing all along he wouldn’t be able to capture him, so that he will be dependant on him for training to get stronger using the Mangkyou which would make him much stronger than using the Curse Seal that he formally had.

Some friends and I were discussing this chapter and some previous ones, and one of my friends believes that Sasuke is allowing himself to be “bull”-ied around to tire out the 8-tails then going in for the kill when it’s weak. But I don’t see that happening, I mean have you seen how huge this guy is? Plus, he has an increditble amount of chakra.
Someone else also pointed out that Sasuke had to have chosen the members of his team for a reason. So if he intended on his team fighting Naruto, it ain’t gonna happen if they can’t keep up with this guy.
I agree that Sasuke relies too much on the power of others, whereas Naruto seeks to control and master his own. So I’m thinking that while it seems like Naruto is weak, he may actually end up being stronger in more ways than one.
I especially loved the part about Sasuke getting being put in his place and being taken down a notch or two. lol. Classic. Great Job Bob!

i think i understand why sasuke’s sharingan worked on naruto but didn’t work on the hachibi. think about it. when naruto was transforming, naruto wasn’t choosing to transform. the kyuubi was in control. naruto was actually trying to reject the power. now, if the kyuubi is in control, its easy for sasuke to influence it because, he’s attacking the source of the power. but with the hachibi, the host is in control. he’s only tapping power from the beast but his consciousness is in control. therefore, sasuke’s sharingan attacks the host who is in control but, the beast who is not influenced this time, can interfere with the process. i think naruto’s biggest problem is that, he hasa poor relationship with the kyuubi. the kyuubi just wants fight violently going for the kill. naruto doesn’t want to rely on it. the kyuubi even mocks naruto. but what’s interesting is how the kyuubi threatened sasuke that he would regret it should he kill naruto. seems like at some level, the kyuubi values naruto. may be due to the fact that this beast has an exclusive view to naruto’s thoughts, feelings and struggles. who knows, in the future, naruto and the beast might actually become friends. (anything’s possible with naruto).
as to why sasuke’s loosing, my answer is, who in their right mind gains a new power and rushes off into battle without training on how to use the power? he has no idea on what his limits are. he probably doesn’t know all the abilities exclusive to his sharingan. he doesn’t try to find out key information about his opponent. no planning. just walks into a battle like he’s immortal. overconfidence and arrogance is sasuke’s weakness not his abilities.

I would like to point out that the only reason Sasuke beat Naruto at the Valley of the End was because of the Cursed Seal. Even then, the *tails is a step below the Ninetails and Naruto was using only one tail. This may be Kishi’s way of telling us that Naruto would be even powerful if he could sync/control the Kyuubi. Just like in DL’s Fanfic.
It also gives aus something else to Consider. A jinchuuriki in harmony with his beast is essentially immune to Genjutsu even such a Tsukiyomi.
On another note though, this is exactly what someone’s argument for the Ultimate Shinobiwas about. The US should not have a Kekkei Genkai, because their users rely on them to much creating a huge weakness. As shown by Sasuke’s battle with the 8-Tail (the second only to Kyuubi).
In short I think this battle is about Humility, teaching Sasuke also that if Naruto faces him again he may very well lose and to bring the Team Blue Falcon into a better relationship.

If this tailed beast, with such incredible amount of chakra, experience, knowledge and fighting skills can be defeated by simple eye techniques and a bunch and wipper snappers - without destroying at least two of them, then this story and and these tailed beasts are utterly useless.

Like TheoryMaker, I am also wondering about that broken horn of the OXtopus. It was also posted by Wadadli in the other blog that the OXtopus resembles the creature ushi-oni from the Japanese folklore. So our guess that it’s an octopus is only half correct. Why is it that Kishi deviated from his previous depictions of bijuus – from ordinary form of animals (e.g. raccoon, cat, turtle, fox) to this cross breed? Can a bijuu’s appearance be altered depending on the trainings/techniques of its host? In Naruto’s case, can he fuse his frog form (sage arts) into the demox fox form of the bijuu?
Karin must have loads of chakra reserves as she is like a human dextrose to Sasuke. Who chooses the area to be bitten, Karin or the other party? Lucky guys, lol. What will happen now that it’s Juugo who’s going to fuse with Sasuke? Will this restore Sasuke’s CS abilities? How will this effect Juugo?
These are my theories on the fight:
1. This was all Sasuke’s ploy to force the 8tj in his bijuu form. And now that the OXtopus has shown himself, Sasuke will use his trump card, whatever the hell it is.
2. Sasuke was really beaten by the 8tj. Some senior Akatsuki member will come to Team Bird’s and capture the 8tj. Sasuke will be forever in debt to Madara.
3. This has been Madara’s plan. Either Sasuke captures the 8tj for bijuu extraction or Sasuke gets killed in the battle. This is a win-win situation for the old Uchiha.
I don’t even know if these makes sense at all. Too many thoughts in my head, sorry guys.

Though Sasuke is getting his ass whooped I hope it’s all part of some bigger plan, I mean seriously, this isn’t how he typically battles.
I mean he’s always been severely self-confident, but never to a fault.
And what is it with Karin? Is that some birthmark all over her body? Or is it actually bite marks from all the people who’ve used her over the years? And choose to be bitten when you could just learn medical ninjutsu, I mean what exactly is her chakra type? Is she one of Orchimaru’s experiments?
And I’m assuming Suigetsu has already bit it, at least for this battle, Team Hawk just seems to be having such a bad day.
Another thing I noticed, It has been mentioned twice how the Jinchurrikki charges only in a straight line, so in a way, it’s like Sasuke’s playing the role of a Matador, except each time, the bull’s running him through.

1.) The Oxtopus, also known as the Ushi Oni in Japanese mythology (I’m sure someone else has discovered this I havn’t read any of the other comments yet) was, in one popular tale, killed with a bow and arrow. Who in the Naruverse uses a bow and arrow aside from Kidomaru? Maybe that won’t be tide into Kishi’s plan but I thought it was noteworthy…. Maybe Sasuke will make some new chidori variation that is somewhat like an arrow? Or, maybe he’ll use Kirin, I’m thinking its strong enough to put somewhat of a beating on the 8-tails… If not, Kishi is just picking on Sasuke lol.
2.) After reading this chapter I am more convinced that those are not all little circular bite-marks on Karin. If Sasuke was biting her on her collar bone, they wouldn’t have been perfect circles like they were. I believe it is some other form of the Cursed Seal. After all she was working with Orochimaru, and there are different types of the Cursed Seal. The sound 5 had the CS of Earth, Sasuke had the CS of Heaven, maybe Karin’s CS is what allows her to heal people. Which would mean Sasuke hasn’t been chomping on Karin left and right. This also brings me to my next point…
3.) Sasuke isn’t abusing his team. He didn’t ask Karin to heal him, and he didn’t ask Jugo to give him his skin/chakra. They wanted to, which leads me to believe that he is closer to them than we know, and most of all a good leader if they care about him that much. Maybe he needs to work on his battle tactics, but to be that much of a respected leader has to say something.
4.) I think this battle is Zetsu’s chance to show us what he’s got. Or at least lend a helping hand. Maybe Tobi was so sure of Sasuke because he sent Zetsu as an ace in the hole in case something went wrong, like it is now…. Far fetched, but possible.

But i agree with some of you all about Madara coming to save Team Hawk and Sasuke feeling like he owe him his life.

Did you guys notice about jugo said that he can give his flesh/heal sasuke since Sasuke has a good control or somtin about his cursed seal???? if thats tru then Sasuke still has the cursed seal or maybe jugo doesnt noe that sasuke has no longer got the cursed seal and as soon as he gives him his flesh, sasuke will react to it badly or somethin like that.

Remember, not everyone could accept it, most people that Orochimaru experiemented on would die, but sasuke didn’t. Therefore, since Juugo is the base ingredient of the cursed seal, he can merge with Sasuke’s body without making Sasuke die. In other words… The cursed seal is actually gone. He may however, be able to regain some of his cursed seal powers and what not this way. Question is though, is this merger perminant?

I think this is a way in which Madara is making him confront his mortality insofar as he knew that a powerful jinchuuriki would not go down easily and I think he wants Sasuke to lose, but not die, so that he needs him-right now he knows Sasuke is over-confident and hard-headed. Plus its a frikin’ 8-tailed demon who can be fully manipulated by his host for crying out loud, Sasuke isn’t weak the Jinchuuriki is just ridiculously strong!!!!

I guess Sasuke will get killed again… and he’ll be able to drink part of Suigetsu’s body to return to normal???? I think that Kishi should have them chalk this up as a learning lesson, and haul ass out of there. Have Sasuke realize who his real team is “Team Kakashi”, and have him finally come to his senses and learn why his brother sacrificed himself for Konoha.

This battle was very un-Ninja-like and given the poor portrayal of my fellow darkie, I feel that the reason for it is simple… ‘just because he’s black’. I mean when do you ever see a ninja use his trump card so early in a fight. I mean even Naruto as simple as he is doesn’t use Rasengan early in the battle and this Jinchuuriki has already shown his full form! This alone is reason enough for him to get his ass-kicked. Cool thing though is now sasuke will have to summon something, a Hawk? a Snake? Hmmmm….

The way i see it, is that he took back Seigetsu Beheader sword from the 8 tails by using fighting skills but the 8 tails took it pass that point, but just wait until Sasuke train with his new MS and then go back to fight him it will be a completely different outcome. you can take that to the bank my manz.

The latter died in the process of delivering Sasuke to Oro. He is also Juugo’s dear friend (if I may use the word) who can control Juugo’s urges (?). So, I dunno, maybe Juugo sees Kimimaro in Sasuke and is therefore willing to save him from possible death.
