Naruto Manga Chapter 408: Eight-Tails Kalamari

This was an interesting chapter because we now know exactly what Sasuke and Naruto will be doing for the next couple of chapters, and by “couple†I mean most likely a whole volume full. Sasuke is gonna take on the Eight-Tails black dude while Naruto is gonna get whipped into shape on some mountain full of toads -sounds like good times to me. You can probably expect both of them to power up again in level. Sasuke will surely show off the full array of his new Mangekyou Sharingan powers in the fight with the Eight-Tails. But I expect Naruto to be the one who will make a giant leap in power and skill thanks to his upcoming training in the mountains.
What I don’t understand is why Jiraiya didn’t try to teach some of the ‘Sage Arts’ to Naruto during their training trip. I know I’ve been griping about this since part II started, but it really didn’t seem like Naruto gained very much during the time skip. And now Naruto has to play catch up and power himself up in the few weeks he has before Akatsuki comes knocking at the door. Kishi probably planned it this way so we actually see Naruto train and progress, rather than have it just magically happen over the time skip as in Sasuke’s case. But I just can’t stop wondering if those 2 ½ years were wasted for Naruto despite how he promised himself to become much stronger.
Well anyways, back to the manga. I thought the title page was very nice. Sasuke’s got that “I’m so cool that I don’t need a real belt†look to him. Heck, he doesn’t even need pants. Just grab a shower curtain and tie it around your waist with some rope and you’re set for a fun night out! In the first scene, we see Sasuke and his groupies in brand spanking new Akatsuki robes. Sasuke mind rapes a poor shinobi from the Cloud Village and learns the location of the Eight -Tails. He and his lackeys then walk out all cool like. If Madara decided to sell his Akatsuki robes in the stores, then this would have been the perfect advertisement shot ;p
Meanwhile, back in Konoha, Naruto’s getting impatient with the lack of progress in analyzing the clues Jiraiya left behind. Even after deciphering the code, they are no closer to unlocking its true meaning because the message is still too vague and Fukasaku doesn’t provide any new information to help clarify things. I thought that Naruto was being even more bratty than usual during this whole scene. Despite his claims to want to do something to avenge Jiraiya’s death, all Naruto was doing was just trying to push other people to work harder. Thankfully, Fukasaku offers to get Naruto outta everyone’s hair by taking him to boot camp in the toad mountains. Hopefully this will let Naruto cool his dead a bit and maybe finally learn some of the awesome jutsus Jiraiya has used.
In the last scene we get a glimpse of the infamous Eight-Tails Jinchuuriki we’ve been hearing so much about lately. But geeeez, eight swords? Does some one really need eight swords? This guy kinda reminds me of Kaname Tosen from Bleach. He appears to be black, a first for Naruto because I can’t remember any other black characters in the series. He wears shades over his eyes because he is sensitive to light. I wonder if his bad eyes will help give him an advantage when fighting against Sasuke and his Sharingan? Obviously, the worst enemy of a Sharingan user is someone who can fight while blind. We also see the silhouette shape of his transformed state inside the dark and watery cavern he has been training in. Now from the recent comments in chapter 408 announcement blog, it seems there’s a dispute on whether the Eight-Tails is an octopus, dragon or snake. I can’t say for sure, but from the bottom right panel on page 16, I do believe I see suction cups on what looks like tentacles to me. If it is indeed an octopus, then Sasuke would definitely have an advantage during a fight – namely because octopus are aquatic creatures and water conducts electricity. I can taste that kalamari already

as far as this chapter its definetly an OCTOPUS!! i know kishi is gonna use this to show us sasukes MS.but something just hit me.in the forums ppl were talking about why sasuke only used one eye(why couldnt he just use regular sharingan like itachi did to that lady in episode 80 something?probably cuz hes a ninja,but still i know sasuke doesnt want to go blind.maybe hell consider itachis eyes kater?) maybe this hints at him having many MS techniques? it would hope so after itachi haveing 3 doujutus.

I’m willing to bet that Sasuke’s sharingan isn’t going to be hindered by the eight-tail’s inability to see. It seems like the complexity of one’s mangekyo determines the level of power the user weilds. Madara’s, Kakashi’s and Itachi’s had tri-lateral symmetry, whereas Sasuke’s has four-way symmetry…
Alright, now for that explanation I promised:
This chapter gives me hope for Sasuke for a few reasons. The cover is the biggest. Like the blog “Clues from the past” suggests, the cover is Kishi’s way of slipping subliminal messages about the series to the readers, but the readers are hardly ever capable of picking up on this.
Unfortunately Bob, I feel like Sasuke looks sad on the cover, almost the same nostalgic-looking expression on his face that Itachi always carried.
This is a key comparison because on the left, Kishi’s dialogue says “The silent genius.” This means two things. One, that Sasuke is definitely not the gullible idiot that he has come off to be, taking everything Madara says as the truth, and falling right into his trap. No, he has something planned, but, as the words suggest, he is keeping silent about it. Until the right time to strike.
The second thing it does is once again compares him to Itachi. This could either mean he keeps Itachi’s wishes in mind, or he will become a marter, like Itachi, and possibly die to stop Madara.
Now lets look at the next part:
“He tried to resist, but eventually just learned this pain is part of his fate.”
Huge clue here guys. This tells us that Sasuke doesn’t want to be where he is, but it is something he has to do. The word “pain” alone tells us he hates doing this. I think he is there because this is the only place that he can learn, and eventually fight Tobi’s plans. He is already working to strip Tobi of the 8-tails.
Now, on to the chapter:
I like the power Sasuke has with his new MS, but obviously since he is closing his left eye while performing this, he has at least (not counting Ameterasu) two more techniques. That is if he didn’t get Susanoo’ and Tsukuyomi from Itachi.
As for the robes, they look pretty cool, and I like how Team Hawk folds the collars down.
As for the Toad Sage training, this is probably how Kishi will have Naruto survive while Pein ransacks Konoha. Because I’m pretty sure that if Naruto was there while Pein attacked, he’d get his ass handed to him, and might end up losing his bijuu. Clever Kishi…
Yeah, I’m definitely feeling an Octopus for Naruto’s first black character. In this fight, they both have their respective advantages. Sasuke, with his lightning, over the water. And the black dude with his ability to fight blind, over the sharingan.
I’m sorry, but I have a feeling that as of right now, I think that this guy will be the strongest Jinchuurriiki. Why? Well he has the second strongest bijuu, but unlike Naruto and his Kyuubi, he appears to have full control over his. I mean shit, Kisame had trouble with only the 4-tails because he had good control over his bijuu, this well trained 8-tails is gonna be tough.

I don’t think the two years Naruto spent with Jiraiya were a waste I mean maybe he didn’t get strong as alot of characters even though thats what we thought was going to happen but I think he spent it in a great way aswell. By being with the only father he has known, Jiraiya!
I can’t believe this is the first black character in the series, really I think this change is long over due I can’t wait to see his power, I hope he kicks Team Hawks Ass! Oh yah, I wonder what will his power be because every bijuu has a different ability like Gaara his ability is to control Sabd and I don’t reall know what the Kyuubi’s elemental ability is, maybe all of them because all we have seen him do is destroy things with lots of chakra and heal Naruto! I think he has all of them because when they first introduced him they said he could raise tsunami’s and destroy mountain and other crap! All I know is that this Jinchuuriki shouldn’t be a push over because next to the Kyuubi he is the strongest Bijuu!

Well, I’m not exactly sure about his blindness, because there could be a number of reasons. Have you even gone to the movies during the day and walked outside and the sunlight hurts your eyes? That’s because your eyes are having trouble adjusting. So, that’s one option. Also, if he’s an Octopus, molusks have very sensitive eyes, and the light could irritate them. Last of all, it could be the equivelant of a hang-over… He seems to be that kind of character…

Every since Fukasaku said he wanted to take Naruto away an train I’ve been imagining the power he is going to have he should be a lot stronger than ever. Oh Naruto decided to go and train with the toad and go through the same trainning that Jiraiya did.Well i must say that i’m not completly happy.I don’t like the hole style that Jiraiya and his techinquies had.But no matter.If Naruto pass all the missions and the trainning that he must ,then he ll be MUCH more stronger.

i think when sasuke meet up with the 8 tail bijuu, we will finally get to see sasuke true MS power. As for naruto, it was shocking hearing naruto wanted to avenge his jiraiya, but the real question is. Will naruto later on throw something important away to get stronger and what cost will naruto willing to throw up?

It kind of annoys me to find Naruto is still weaker than Sasuke.I mean,Naruto trains until he cant sweat anymore.Sasuke on the other hand is,sharingan this,sharingan that.None of his skills are his!And to think that now he has the mangekyou sharigan,hes gonna be WAAAAY stronger than him without enduring the pain Naruto went through to even get his rasengan and stuff..

When Naruto returns from his Sage training, he will be the most powerful ninja in Konoha. I hope NAruto learns some smarts as well. When Naruto is with the toads will the key be used on him? I suspect it will be.

Getting serius, I think that the eight tailed thing is a DRAGON, like Oroshi no Yamata. felt lonely, but I thing the octupus aperances is just something loke Narutos tails of chakra, not the real shape of the moster. Oroshi also was the owner of a swrod (kusanagi) and this jinchuriki have 4-8 swords. This will be an awesome fight. I even think Sasuke will face more danger than Pein campturing Naruto.
9 SSJ totally agree about dear Sasuke. He is only goal is to avenge his clan, so he wont let Madara win, he is just playing the great act to kill Madara at the end. when i look at the pic of the 7 swordmen guy with the 8 tailed bijuu inside him, i see 5 swords on him, so maybe he killed the other swordmen and took their sword

As far as we are concerned, every single “swordsmen’s” sword is different.
The 8 tailed bijuu has similar swords on his back. It was also indicated that he held 7 swords, potentially for 7 out of his 8 legs. What we should be worried about is the 8th tentacle… what does he hold on that one?
reading up a little bit on on octopi….they have a very keen sense of sight when it comes to their habitat, as well as an organ that allows them to stay oriented to the horizontal surfaces they are near to…which leads me to believe that the eight tails will be a formidable foe inside and outside the dark based on the fact that it’s abilities will allow it to see through any illusions
another bit is about how octopi are known to kill sharks, there seems to be an intense rivalry between the two species…which leads me to believe that Itachi’s old teammate might show up for this one, what with the swords and all(not saying they’re swordsmen swords…I highly doubt that), but swordplay and the fight between two rival humans that resemble each of the two species seems like it could be cool
…that’s all assuming it is an octopus(who as mentioned before has arms, NOT tentacles)
and what’s with the whole, “Iron” and “Bull’s horn” tattoos? can anyone shed any light on or have any theories about how those may be relevant?
this chapter was great! i can’t wait to see some training and fighting! I really can’t believe i didn’t think of the weak eyesight being great against the sharingan, i guess that’s why you’re the Kage bob-sama!
Perhaps the only way for Naruto to learn the sage techniques is from the elder frog himself which at the time I’m sure the elder frog would not teach him, seeing as how Naruto was so inferior and Jiraya was still alive.
I wonder if Kakashi and Yamato will join Naruto for a faster training process.
this chapter was awesome can’t wait for the next one. and just to point it out I don’t think the jinchuuriki is black it’s just an asian guy with braids but I could be wrong(most likely). but yea and can’t wait for Naruto to show off some of his new SKILLZ and I guess sasuke too but he could die for all I care.

First of all great job Bob! That Eight-Tails Jinchuuriki lools strong. He looks just like those scary guys from movies. I think that that guy is Octopus. Everything makes sense then. And finally a black character.
Anyway I hope that soon we will see some action. I can’t wait to see how strong Sasuke’s new sharingan is. I can’t belive that he and the rest of his team is wearing that Akatsuki robes. I didn’t think that he will actully agree to wear it.
And about Naruto… I hope that training won’t take too long and I hope this time Naruto is going to become stronger then Sasuke.

I think kishimoto should slow down the rate that naruto is gonna get good..i mean, first he gets that thing from itachi, then that key thing that jaraiya left to him and now he is gonna have jaraiya’s sage techniques..wth…honestly, i liked the waiting.. i dnt want him to suddenly be super strong. it just does not seem real…i know people were annoyed at how weak he was, but its looking like after naruto learns the sage techniques,the key fing jaraiya left for him, and uses the thing itachi gave to him, sasuke might not have a chance anymore…i want their fight to be close!!.dam

Yea i agree white shinobi. but look at this way….itachi said that if he was to face jaraiya, both of them will probably die.. now sasuke with his MS is probably as good as itachi was( could be argued).. now if naruto learns the sage techniques to the extent of jaraiya’s ones or stronger, he will have already matched sasuke.. now if he adds the other things which are like probably super strong in itself, naruto will just EX PWN sasuke
Itachi didn’t say they will probably both die, he just said it would be a troublesome fight he didn’t feel like dealing with. And remember we just found out that Itachi was good all along. So he probably just didn’t want to hurt Jiraiya.
Also remember that Orochimaru was as strong or stronger than Jiraiya, ofter referred to as the strongest Sannin. Itachi easily powned Orochimaru. I’m pretty sure Itachi was making excuses just because he really didn’t want to fight Jiraiya.

Orochimaru was in the same position as Sasuke… the number one genius in the group… and Sasuke made it out with top grades out of his class…
Jiraiya was probably the weaker kid in the group all along.. but that changed when he trained in the sage arts.. that may also change Naruto… he will become strong…
that’s what happens… the sannins past directly affects the “former” Team 7…
…and i don’t remember Itachi ever saiyng that… it would be troublesome… but surely, Itachi could’ve dealt with it… SSJ is right, Itachi just didn’t want to harm Jiraiya.
This was an interesting manga for me, for 3 reasons:
1. Suigetsu insinuated that he intends to fight Sasuke when he notes that with Sasuke’s MS Sasuke will be a pain.
2. Naruto is gonna be trained like ‘little Jiraiya’ which is really lame because it appears as though Naruto is actually just a copy-cat character. I mean he is gonna have Jiraiya’s abilities and whatever Itachi gave him, what about some originality Kishi geez man. I really wish old man 3rd was still alive I mean after all he’s undoubtedly the best teacher, given that he trained the legendary sannin! ANd in training them he uncovered their individuality even so far as getting them to have individual summons different from his own (the monkey).
3. The black jinchuuriki – doesn’t anyone find it that the first black character in the manga is only on it to die and additionally is just a big brute hence perpetuating stereotypes about my race messed up man there’s a certain ‘r’ word for that kinda thing.
yes, i’ve noticed Suigetsu’s jealousy… maybe he wants to add Sasuke’s sword to his collection ?

and i think naruto won’t end up a copy character… he will not end up as a Yondaime copy… or a Jiraiya copy… he will end up his own way… he always stood for himself… he will be one of a kind… i know it…

Well said mate, just sucks monkey-balls! I think I should turn the book I’m writing into a manga, because the protagonists are black – do some affirmative action in the world of anime hehe! I dunno about Naruto hey, right now all he really has is Shadow clones that make him unique, if he can strengthen these to a formidable level, then he will be able to fight the 6 paths of pein simultaneously. I really hope he doesn’t get a hermit mode though, because that would really just be a gross lack of originality, but a new element like fire would be cool. I wonder if the Toad Sage can suppress kyuubi so that naruto can train with all those shadow clones?
Fukasaku kinda looks like Jiraiya… ever wonder why lil’ jiraiya had such an affinity to toads??? Half toad maybe? I mean who exactly were his parents??? M’thinks ol’ Fuka went out and fooked a human! dirty old toad you!

@kazekago -dono….your earlier comment about the third hokage teaching the sannins individual summonings.. i think they acquired their own summoning during their individual training and not through the third..it is not explained clearly about how they got to have the summonings apart from jaraiya being a toad sage, orochimaru’s jutsus usually being snake based.. but i do know that the third would have had a contract with those summonings like jaraiya had with his when he was teaching naruto.. having said this now, think about orochimaru’s summoning. i do not believe that saratobi will have a contract with a summoning so cynical like that snake….

re some people are saying Sasuke has advantage over the 8tails since water conducts lightning. but we have to remember that they are in the lightning country so there is a probability that the 8tail jinchuuruki is also a lightning user. besides, i have this theory that the bijuus’ power have an affinity to their country element. proof: shukaku (1-tail) is in the wind country and during his battle w/ Gamabunta, he used wind blasts. about the 8-tail being an octopus. i dont know guys but i have to disagree for now. it’s too early to say. all we’ve seen is a silhouette. we’re not sure if those are cups in its tail. the shukaku and the kyuubi also have outgrowths in their tails. the shukaku (ichibi) have what looks like claws in its tail. the kyuubi on the other hand have what looks like boilss on it’s tails (hahaha).

Well that 8-tailed being an octopus, im not reli sure about that, coz on page 16 it kinda looks familiar like an octopus shape but on mage 15 wen it shows the first side of 8-tails, the head almost looks like an snake/dragon’s head.

I would really like to see Naruto’s training process over the alternative which is him disappearing for a bit and coming back hella badass. Also, I have a feeling that the Toads have a much better understanding of the Kyuubi and will help Naruto in that regard. Cause I agree that it would be really boring if Naruto just got the same skillz as Jiraiya had. Maybe the “Sage Arts” bring out your inner sage so Naruto will get similar powers to his mom and dad.

I really really really really really want Naruto to harness Kyuubi. but after Kishimoto pulled that “Its all in the porn” stunt, i’m left to feel a little doubtful. I mean, it sucks, but i think that Naruto will just be gettin Toad Sage training. I hope Kishi proves me wrong, but its just……………………….i dont know. “Naruto” is just really starting to dissapoint me. they killed itachi, the number code was wasted on porn, and Naruto has yet to grow up. I mean its been 408 chapters buddy!!!!! and it took him all the way up until chapter 406 to show some source of maturity. I love Naruto………i’m just really dissapointed right now.
One of the points folks should remember about the Naruto’s time with Jiraiya was that it was just as much about keeping Naruto on the move so it would be harder for Akatsuki to find him. Calling it training was as much to get Naruto to go along willingly as anything. Most of his actual training seems to have been gaining maturity and mastering his existing skills (I think he can do a normal Rasengan without a clone now if remember right). Also I am not sure we have yet seen the technique that Jiraiya told him not to use.
As for the 8-tailed being a snake, I think that is due to a legend that the tailed beasts are supposed to be based on that has been discredited as an internet hoax. The images in this chapter are the first indication what the intended animal is.
As for Naruto becoming a copycat character, Kishi is purposefully making very strong symbolism between the Sannins and Team 7. Even the relationship between Naruto/Sakura seems to closely match the one between Jiraiya/Tsunade – boy humorously flirts which the girl violently rejects; they eventually deeply care for each other but can still only express that in their normal humor/rejection routine.
One last thought concerning the end of chapter 407 and the confusion on Kanon. I think Pein was not referring to the new body as Kanon, but was simply telling Kanon (who was off-panel) to get ready to come with him. Showing the new body I think was just meant to show that Pein is back up to his full group of 6. It is also likely the new body is someone Jiraiya met in his travels and possibly Naruto as well. If it is someone Naruto previously met, it might help him understand Jiraiya’s message and realize none of the bodies is the real Pein.

The problem with your idea that Orochimaru is the strongest is that he dealt with all forms of forbidden jutsus. The other 2 Sanin didn’t deal with forbidden jutsus at his level, and didn’t use it as a venue of achieving new and more powerful ninjutsus. (Although certain jutsus like the forehead jutsu of Tsunade’s is bad for the user, they didn’t experiment as Oro did.)
If the other 2 Sanin were able to utilize forbidden jutsus and experiment with bodies to Orochimaru’s extent, then maybe the other two would be even more powerful. As far as I am concerned, Orochimaru was a child prodigy, but in the wrong way… Orochimaru’s genius ability is actually lame in comparison to the other two.
If we consider all things, Orochimaru’s genius ability came from his curiosity and his ability to experiment on people. (Don’t tell me that’s NOT how he got all his powers – experimenting on OTHERS). Jiraiya’s powers came from determination, and hard work (he was the knucklehead of the three of them). And finally, Tsunade’s genius power came from being a Medic Nin unlike any other, and her control of her chakra.

As for most powerful Sannin… It’s rock paper scissors. That’s the way Kishi set it up. So it isn’t like there’s power level like in Dragon Ball z. The dynamic of who can beat who really is determined by the type of skills that are matched up. That’s what all of Naruto is about … or it’s set up that way.

This whole strongest sannin thing is all about what measure you use to determine the strongest. The reality is that Oroch was the strongest and I say this based on their peak, Sarutobi only wanted Jiraiya to be Hokage because he saw how power hungry Orochimaru was, and Tsunade only became Hokage because Jiraiya didn’t take up the title because he was mugged about Oroch.
ANd SHikamaruIStheMan I sure hope you are right about the whole Sage Arts thing, because I will be really annoyed if Naruto gets Hermit mode, Aargh rather light flicker like the 4th. What is gonna be interesting though is that naruto has up until now been a close range fighter and I always thought he’d learn hectic taijutsu, not the ninjutsu that J-sama used. I really wanna see how Shadow Clones gets integrated effectively and efficiently into how Naruto battles!

And I don’t know about you guys, but I hope Naruto emerges from this training with like cool face pain like young Jiraiya, and some sweet new clothes, and this is a stretch, but maybe a new attitude. He needs to leave his tackyness behind. I’ll admit, Sasuke is obviously my favorite character, and I’m trying to like Naruto, I really am, because I know that in the end, he’ll end up prevailing. So something like a “badass makeover” while he’s training would be cool for me. (though probably a stretch)

I think Orochimaru is the weakest of the 3 sannin. He had some amazing, yet twisted, justs, but that is all he really had.

I am still gonna go w/ Jiraiya as the strongest. The only fight where he didn’t act like shikamaru and actually used all of his power was vs pein.

Still Sasuke’s Mangekyou Sharingan reminds me of Lelouch’s new abililty from Code Geass and i still wonder what made of Itachi if he really is still hiding inside Naruto lol maybe who knows he becomes one of the good guys XP if only…As for the Eight Tails i think he maybe OTHER not an octopus entirely maybe a hybrid and i wonder how long Naruto’s training will take maybe a year or who knows even so if Pein gets to Konoha while Naruto is out heh its their loss XD probably be all ticked off and decide to force the 5th to spill it out.

While training in hermit techniques, maybe Naruto will make progress in other directions as well. One possibility is finish developing the Rasen Shuriken. Yamato commented to Kakashi that it was only 50% completed. Maybe Naruto will get it to the point where at least it is not damaging his own chakra system like Tsunade noticed.
Another possibility for the results of his training might be developing his second elemental nature. Given that Tsunade and Jiraiya both think he takes after his mother in techniques and his mother came from the Whirlpool Country, there is a chance his second nature might be water which would make Naruto even more suited for going against Sasuke (water trumps fire, wind trumps lightning). No hint yet if he inherited a bloodline ability from his mother towards combining elemental natures.
The thoughts on possibilities for Naruto’s development make me wish for even more info on his family history. We know Minato died defeating the Kyuubi. My guess Kushino was also one of the many ninjas killed in the attack. It help explains why Minato was willing to use his own son to seal the beast (beside the fact that he would be unwilling to do that to someone else’s child).
Based on conversation between Tsunade and Jiraiya, it sounded like Naruto’s mother came to Konoha at a pretty young age from the tomboy comment and the comment about turning into a beautiful woman. My guess is she might have been in her early teens or younger and probably in a group of homeless refugees after her minor ninja village/clan was wiped out or war refugees similar to Kanon and Nagato after the last great ninja war. If she did arrive at a young age and without any other family, she might not even be aware of any special abilities that the Uzumaki clan might have.
As for her relationship with Minato, I agree with a comment in an earlier post that their relationship was probably kept quiet for some reason since so few people relate Naruto with Minato. Even assuming the older villagers thought Naruto was simply the Kyuubi in human form and no longer Minato’s son, there should have been rumors if it was commonly known he was the father. They may not even been married since Kushino is not referred to with Namikaze’s name. If Kushino hid who the father was and was the only member of her clan in Konoha, that would explain the village view of Naruto as an unwanted orphan.
Even less has been said about Minato’s clan history. Since no one who did know about the relationship has made any comment about other members of the Namikaze clan, my guess is it was a single family or very small clan that was wiped out in the Kyuubi attack. Either way no clue has been provided on any clan abilities Naruto might have inherited from his father either.
What bugs me about the relationship between Minato and Kushino is if all but a handful of folks did not know about it, why does no one look down on Minato for using a baby with no known living parents as the vessel for sealing the Kyuubi. Minato has been portrayed as a universally loved and respected Hokage, but does saving the village overide any doubts over using a baby not known to be his in that manner?

Oroshimaru was definitely the stronger of the sannins. Jiraya along was badly beaten but Oro when he just left Konoha. And Tsunade and Jiraya together couldn’t finish him, even when Oro was unable to use his arms.
Kishi remarks that the strongest are not necessary the best or those that en up full filling their goals. Just take a deeper look on Sasuke and Naruto.
- Sasuke the super-powerful guy can not yet avenge his clan, and all his victories are not complete: Oroshimaru was destroyed by Itachi, not by Sasuke; Deidara badly injured Sasuke; Itachi pass away because he was ill and he never intended to win over Sasuke. Moreover, Sasuke has never kill anyone (Deidara suicide – Itachi just past away cause his illness or gave up).
- On the other hand Naruto, beyond weaker than Sasuke, has win all his battles (except the one against his best-mate). Naruto has killed some foes. Naruto wins because he loves, and he pushes himself beyond limits to save other (not because he is strongest or more learned or smarth) … old Harry Potter over and over.
About Itachi- Jiraja: Itachi simply didn’t want to harm the sannin. Remember that ero-senin had a source of information inside Akatsuki; and Itachi was spying the organization according to Madara. So Itachi was reporting to Jiraya, and hiding it from Kisame.
@ Shika – I will also hate to see Naruto in the Sage mode. But Kishi probably will give him such ugly appearances. Have you notice how Kishi have changed Naruto: In the First part he was lovable, a sweet kid, naïve, funny, and was growing fast. But in the second part Naruto is: weak, pervert, st*p*d but to old to remind just a funny idi*t. Now Naruto just need to become bad looking to complete the combo.

I keep seeing comments that Naruto is a pervert but I don’t really see that in him. Yes he created Sexy no Jitsu and other perverted techniques, but the impression I get is that he does not personally get any thrill out of them. He is not a pervert himself, but can grasp what he can use against perverts.
As mentioned, he found all of Jiraiya’s books very boring. Where Kakashi and even Shikamaru were mortally embarassed while decoding the message, Naruto did not react at all. He considered Konohamaru’s Girl-on-Girl no Jitsu as just a intelligent variation on Harem no Jitsu, unlike Sakura’s reaction to Boy-on-Boy no Jitsu.
Naruto might understand what he is doing intellectually, but not emotionally. I would not be surprised if his idea of a date with Sakura would entail nothing more than spending time together and maybe holding hands.

and i would think that orochimaru did not beat jaraiya when jaraiya tried to stop him from leaving the villiage… if orochimaru had beaten him, considering he was has heartless as he is now, he should have killed jaraiya to finish him off…i am assuming that him and jaraiya was as close and sasuke was to naruto and the only reason sasuke did not kill naruto was because he did not want to get power the same way itachi did.. so what would have been orochimaru’s reason?..this then leaves me to say that the battle probably did not have a winner seeing that i believe jaraiya would have brought orochimaru back if he had won!!

I’m kind of surprised that the debate went on so long here. It’s not as though we’re ever going to unanimously agree on who’s the better sannin and/or which character could beat whom, since all of it is conjecture. For the sake of keeping the uneasy debates to a minimum, perhaps we should leave character debates to the shoutbox or email as much as possible. That sounds terribly Quaker, but it keeps the posts shorter and leaves less of a chance for a reader to misunderstand. ^^;

I have a correction for myself. In a previous comment I said that Lightning Elemental Recomposition defeats Water. Actually, it is only strong against Earth (This is not Pokemon). The advantage that Sasuke has when he fights the supposedly water EightTails is that if they fight in water, Sasuke can transmit his Chidori more easily and with an additional surge to it.
Also, I’ve read that many of you believe that Sasuke’s Sharingan is useless against the possibly blind Jinchuuriki. The truth is that he can still use to read the EightTails Host movements and jutsu. Since genjutsu requires eye contact with the sharingan or hand seal, Tsukuyomi (if he got it from Itachi) and other Sharingan genjutsu or hypnosis then become tools that Sasuke will not be able to count on. However, he can still make use of other Sharingan-related techniques like Amaterasu, Susano’o (again, if Itachi transferred those to his little brother) (and if they were transferred, can Sasuke use them to their full potential), and his unseen Mangekyou techniques.
We’ll just have to wait two more days to know.
whether sasuke’s lightning moves work is effective against the 8 tails does not matter, all i know is that sasuke will come out of the fight the winner,…but what i dnt want is for everybody in his group to get involved,. if they do and they still have a hard time, it will suck cuz it will mean that there is still someone else that is stronger than sasuke apart from the ones that we already know .. but, like somebody earlier wrote, i do not think that we will see the fight because it will kinda give away his moves which should saved for a big fight…i think the fight will probably be like when kisame got the 4 tails- we didnt see the fight but it was talked about and we saw the beat up person
I believe Sasuke will always win against this EightTails. However, like you said, Naruhina1, it might be freaking difficult for him. But if we remember what Madara answered to Pain when the latter asked if Sasuke was able to do it. He said, “I can VOUCH for Sasuke.” Anyway I, like all of you guys, wanna see a great fight. Sasuke wont lose. Sasuke needs a tailed beast to keep up with Naruto, if he gets one we get a good fight on ouur hands. Otherwise Naruto is just gunna keep adding tails till Sasuke cant stand, i dont think he personally cares how far he has to go to beat Sasuke, as long as he does thats whats important to him.

Regardless of the Chidori’s effects in the water, I think fighting in the water would be more of an advantage for the 8-tails. Its where he trains, and is most likely most comfortable fighting, I’m sure there is a way he could deal with the Chidori. Not to mention, in that watery cavern, he has the help of darkness. Even though Sasuke can still perform certain jutsu in the dark, he can not perform all.
No, I think it is Sasuke who would want to fight outside, and the jinchuuriki in the water…

@naruhina the sharingan can see chakra and like sothe said he can lighten the place up with some fire but can colapse the cave so they all die and he could use his jinchuuriki power to survive
White shinobi, I agree with you. The sharingan can see chakra. Not only can he lighten up the place with fire but also with lightning. Remember that he has got teammates. Perhaps Suigetsu’s water jutsus will come to the show, which would be helpful since the 8tails apparently will fight in water. Also, Karin can help with her chakra sensing abilities to locate the Jinchuuriki. I don’t know how Juugo might help. All I can say for now is that we have not seen much of the power of Sasuke’s MS and subordinates. Still this is going to be difficult since it looks like this Black Host controls well the strongest Jinchuuriki only second to the Kyubbi. But of course, Sasuke will win.

Hey, I forgot to mention this. Perhaps if Sasuke fights outside that cavern, that is, in sunlight, this Jinchuuriki will be somehow weaken because it seems that he doesn’t like light. Also, he can be weakened by fighting outside of a body of water.
I think the following is a very important observation. If you guys remember, Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage, scattered the bijuus evenly throughout the shinobi villages, which means every village should only have reasonably one bijuu. If you remember the woman Jinchuuriki that Hidan and Kakuzu fought against, you may have noticed that she was wearing the same headband the 8tails is wearing. That means that village(I don’t remember the village name, probably Lightning or Thunder, Raigakure?) had under her power two bijuus. But why? Still that is unknown. Just like many other things are unknown. For instance, how Kakashi obtained the Mangekyou, the abilities of Kushina Uzumaki, the secret of Minato’s scroll, etc.

@white shinobi….unless sasuke has got a candle light or something, he will be burning up alot of chakra to maintain the fire jutsu..and same goes for the lighting mister_sensei suggested..i dnt think he will be using chidori to run through his body for the whole fight..and if he is using his hands to do it, it will put him in a handicap situation because he will have only three limbs left to use for his taijutsu…however it makes sense for karin sensing the chakra to locate the 8 tails.. i was gonna say it would not help that much, but the 8 tails seems like he specialises in taijutsu with his sword so karin’s ability may be good……however, reading the chapter again has kinda made me change my mind on where they are gonna fight.. they are actually probably gonna fight in an area that favours the 8 tails because it seems like the 8 tails will at a major disadvantage if the fight sets in a light place.. how sasuke is gonna pull it off i want to see..
oh yea…i know this is off topic but who has noticed that tobi had sharingan, we have never seen it deactivated.. could it be like kakashi?…i think something is up with that!!

Well a fight between Naruto and Sasuke…smells like teen spirit..i’m kidding.Well i can see LOTS OF talking before the fight begins and during it.Mostly from Naruto.Sasuke will just throw his avengerish , emo talk ans insults that Naruto is so stu*pid that cannot understand Sasuke insulted him.
Well i don’t want to see Naruto “Hermit Mode”.I can’t imagine it.It just isn’t Naruto.Well he ll learn how to summon a PROPER summon and not just a lil model of a toad.I ‘d like him to get another element or improve what he’s got.There are many fuuton jutsus but for some reason Kishi had made Naruto a weak character.H only knows Rasengan(Ooodama) using his Kage bunshins and the Shadow Shurinken….and some taijutsu.Is this a ””MAIN”"” character??
It would be really good if he could learn one or two fuuton jutsus.They are usefull.He can also advance his speed because of his element.So i hope he does his homework and try hard.

Now now Sasuke’s team is after the beast.I hope we got to see a nice fight.And not only Sasuke in it.Suigetsu can help since his element is water.And Juugo will be needed i suppose.BUT THEY ARE WEAK..WHY?BECAUSE THEY LACK PAINTED NAILS.But they also have and advantage.They have better robes.New and cool designs.And Sasuke’s Kirin and generaly lighting element will help a lot if the tailed best is an octopus.Logicaly loads of water must be involed in the fight.
@Mister_Sensei – I believe you are wrong on the number of villages and the distribution of the bijuu. There are currently 5 major ninja villages (Kage-level villages) and many lesser ninja villages of various size. Assuming none of the major villages were wiped out or created in the 80 years since the initial ones were created, I am betting a big reason why only some of the villages are considered Kage-level is that these villages were the ones that received a bijuu from the First Hokage initially (who did not control all of them, only some). This would mean he probably only had 5 under control which is still very impressive.
In the 80 years since, some of the bijuu may have gotten free or the host might have switched allegiance to a different village. The 3-tail did not have a host when captured by Akatsuki. Also the 9-tail was free until the 4th Hokage captured him, and we dont know if he had been captured in the past.
@ Naruhina – Sorry for the delay to answer –Is hard to explain it in English (not my language as you see) But I’ll try:
BEST vs STRONGEST: Shikamaru is a good example. He is probably the best ninja of Konoha now; considering his capacity of battle, strategy matters, emotions control, feeling, battle and mission’s results, and more. But he isn’t he strongest.
But generally I just use the word strong, both for best or strong. Sometimes also use best in reference to goodness.
STRONGEST or BEST / WIN or SUCCES
Kishi put grey notes, just like in real life. (-) no one is pure good or pure evil (nor the intentions or actions) (-) Same for powers: all characters has strong aspects, and weak angles that a smart or simply lucky ninja can hit. Also all have weak moments or mistakes that a foe can use. So the stronger can lose ONCE against the weakest. But you anyway must admit witch was the strongest ninja. Even a looser can be the strongest. You must see things in details and perspective.
Relativity and circumstances are key words when we analyze power / success in battle. Also the goal, emotions and the self knowledge and self control are key aspects. Someone can be the one with more talent, abilities, charka, even strategy, but fail in the final execution (for his own fault – or thanks to others efforts).
OROshimaru was the strongest of the sannins, but he died first because he got lost, lost cause of his obsession and overconfidence, and circumstances and determined foes. His condition as the stronger was the fruit of hard work (twisted but long hard work).
SASUKE is the strongest but constantly fails, when weak Naruto generally success. (* see previous comments) A mixture of bad / good luck plays a part in these results; also Kishi give bonus points for love and friendship. Also Sasuke is not a team player, unlike Naruto, no one stop him when he rushes on the wrong conclusions and takes wrong actions. (But I still have hope on Sasuke)
SUCCES Depends a bit on the chances of life, and a great deal on the way you choose your path, hold onto the important things, adapt to some things, learn to control your emotions (not to buried it), build good bonds, socialize…. Being strong or good looking may help in the way to success, but also can lead to overconfidence and defeat. Same in life, same in battle.

about Sasuke needing a tailed beast… I think Chaos (i’m too lazy to check) said that Sasuke wouldn’t use someone else’s powers … which I think was seen when he passed up his brother’s eyes. PLUS… he doesn’t need a tailed beast because he can just suppress the Kyuubi’s Chakra so it will be an even fight between him and Naruto. Well, not exactly even because Sasuke is very skilled.
About Suigetsu… I think he plays a Deidara sort of role where he’s going along but only because he was made to. He made the comment that with the sword he has now he might be able to beat Sasuke. And now he’s feeling like he couldn’t if he wanted to.
And about the snake eight tales thing… I’ve heard before that it was an internet hoax kinda like the urban legend about the guy that wrote “Don’t worry be happy” commited suicide (which he didn’t…). I’m not sure what to believe but I bet we won’t see the battle because then Sasuke won’t have any “new” moves to show when he battles a main person in the storyline.
Here’s the play by play… Sasuke says to 8tailed guy “hey you’re coming with me”… 8tailed guy pulls his swords. Sasuke’s katana chops them all to peices and then he cooks the guy. Nothing to see.
As much as I hate this defense of manga/anime… if you think about it all the characters are supposed to be Japanese. Now that doesn’t exactly make it right that the Naruverse isn’t more diverse with skin tone choices. But we are also taking our culture and views and placing them upon Japan’s culture and views or Kishimoto to be more percise. And when we do that with his manga and anime we have a cultural history of racism.
Anyway, I”m glad to see some diversity… a little dissapointed that he wasn’t a good guy. But it seems that Kishi has done an excellent job of making characters that are in the gray…

We probably will not be told whether the 8th tails is a snake or a octupus or other.. this is assuming that we will not see the fight.. like what siskin said, “sasuke wouldnt have any new moves to show when he battles a main person” if we see the fight…
Naruhina1 due to the next chapter’s realease we ll get to see a fight between Sasuke and the 8tailed beast.
I never figured out what that weird new sharingan that sasuke has is.
Is it his version of MS? I thought he always dispised how MS made your vision fail? Also, the MS should just connect the pupils and the tomoes in some way, not completely interconnect everything.
The eyes are cool and all, they just don’t make sense, since there has only been 3 types of sharingan(MS, Normal, and EMS) and now they are adding a (fourth?) type of sharingan, so Sasuke must have somehow acquired his brother’s eyes, or fufilled some forbidden condition(the current context is pointing me to the condition of being decieved for all your life to be told you the truth… or rather… forced to listen to the truth)
