This chapter was a nice change of pace from the rather solemn one we had last week. Jiraiya’s legacy is still on everybody’s minds as they work hard to makes sure his death was not in vain, but this chapter also touches on Jiraiya’s more perverted side as well. Some new characters appear in this chapter, and one of them has got her eyes on Shikamaru it seems. And lastly, and probably the most important thing to happen, is Shikamaru’s speech to Naruto.
Jiraiya sent three pieces of information back to Konoha before he was killed by Pein. One is the captured Rain ninja still trapped inside the frog which can change size. Another is the corpse of one of Pein’s bodies (the one which specialized in summonings). And lastly is the secret code which Jiraiya left on Fukasaku’s back. Shikamaru has been pushing the cryptology department to crack the code, but they say it doesn’t fit any of the algorithms which Konoha uses. But a member of the research team, a geeky looking girl named Shiho, suggests that Jiraiya probably used some personal knowledge to create the code and that only someone close to him would have the right ‘key’ to crack it. This Shiho girl is kinda interesting, she’s definitely interested in Shikamaru, but as usual Mr. I’m-a-Super-Genius is completely clueless. Personality-wise, Shiho-chan actually reminds me a little of Karin - they both probably don’t get out much and have pretty messy hair too. But Shiho-chan better watch out though, because as Temari’s past battles have shown, she is not the type to go easy on competition 
Shikamaru’s next step is to try to find those who were close to Jiraiya and see if they can offer any clues to solve the code. He goes to Kakashi for help, but the only clue he could offer was rather dubious. It was a classic LOL moment when the only thing the number 106 reminded Kakashi about was 106cm - Jiraiya’s estimate of Tsunade’s bust size. Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jiraiya made his code based on women’s bust sizes, but most of the numbers in his code are too small to be bust sizes, and the number 207 is too big (A-cup 24cm, B-cup 39cm, C cup 62cm, D cup 80cm). As great as they are, it seems that breasts are not the key to Jiraiya’s code.
Next, Shikamaru visits Naruto, who is probably his best bet for getting a clue about cracking the code. But despite the talk Iruka had with him, Naruto is still zoned out like some mindless zombie. To get Naruto out of his daze, Shikamaru takes him to see Kurenai at the hospital. A few months must have passed since Asuma’s death, because her baby has grown significantly. Anybody can see that she’s pregnant… anyone but Naruto is seems. Naruto’s first reaction is that Kurenai must have eaten too much BBQ and needed to go to the hospital. Now we all know Naruto’s not exactly the sharpest kunai around, but it’s pretty amazing to see him miss this one. If I were a citizen of Konoha, I’d be a little worried that this kid could becom the Hokage one day ;p
Well anyways, I think Shikamaru’s message was just what Naruto needed to get him out of the rut. Unlike Iruka, Shikamaru’s is not going to sugar-coat his words to Naruto. Shikamaru recently lost his sensei, Asuma, as well so he knows firsthand what Naruto is going through and also knows what Naruto needs to do to move forward. Clearly and simply, he tells Naruto to put his time with Jiraiya behind him. Naruto has come to the point in his life where instead of always being taught new things, he must now be self-reliant because pretty soon he may have his own students looking up to him for knowledge and skills. It’s time for Naruto to grow up….
… and take responsibility.
P.S. My guess on the code is that it involves chapters, volumes and page numbers in the books Jiraiya has written.

I don’t think the code has anything to do with the books. If that were the case, they probably would have found something by now seeing as how they know Jiraiya is a writer.
Plus, if Naruto is the key, I don’t think he’s read any of Jiraiya’s books. It should be something simple enough for Naruto to understand. There’s a saying, “Even the wisest are confounded by the simple things in life”.

If you think about it… Any typical ‘caring’ person would go through their grieving period differently. Naruto is a very caring person, and he treasures the bonds that he makes with people. Esp. Jiraiya, a mentor and a god-father of that kind (although he didn’t know it, he must’ve felt a “grandfather” connection). Naruto needed this sulking period to get his emotions in line… and now lead towards a revival stage.
And… my next question is: Who do you think Shikamaru would have the hots for? Temari or Shino? Temari could be troublesome… and You know what they say about the geeky girls… they’re freaks in the sheets! ::rawr:: Lol.

I think Naruto is about to get really strong, I mean we all miss Jiraiya but, we can drag on with forever or Naruto it’s time that Naruto get stronger to show the Akatsuki and Sasuke that there is a reason he will the be the future hokage. I also think Tsunade is going to go crazy and go after Pein when she finds out who she is because he used everything Jiraiya taught him and turned against him, it was like he spat in his face, so Tsunade can’t forgive him she must get revenge her and Naruto together, it’s the only way to feel better.

Only Jiraiya would be able to tell the size of those puppies. On a serious note, I think Naruto is the key to the code. The numbers are a referrance to the key to the kyuubi. If it is not that, it has to be refferences to paragraphs from ichi ichi paridise novels. The first number is from the first book and the second is from the second book. Well you people get the idea.

I like this chapter especially for the little chat Shika has with Naruto basically telling him to man the hell up cause its till for him to be the one to buy ramen for his students and shit. I think that got though to him good job Shika.

// Jun 30, 2008 at 1:49 pmI have been trying to figure out what Pein’s secret is… as it seems his secret lies somewhere with his hidden identity… Let’s not forget that Nagato was the child that Jirayia saw possessing the Rinnegan but as Jirayia mentioned during their fight none of them looked like Nagato… one of them looked like Yahiko and the other five with shinobis he fought in the past…
Another weird thing about the six bodies of Pein, is that, each one of them specialises in certain techniques… the fat one absorbs attacks and the first one uses only summonings…
So maybe the original Pein (Nagato or whoever that may be) used some kind of reincarnation technique and passed down certain attributes of his Rinnegan to other bodies… this way he can use all aspects of Rinnegan at the same time combining them into one attack rather than being a single person and using one ablity at a time.
I think something like that will come out of the Pein’s body that Jirayia left behind for examination and also, the code refers to his book he wrote (not the Icha Icha Paradise) but the one that the Great Sage foretold that he would when he would travel around the world. The numbers in the code may eventually referring to the pages where he encountered previously all of Pein’s bodies and this way some connection between them may be made.
And the fact that the first three bodies of Pein that Jirayia managed to kill during their battle, did not die eventually is because all six of them are part of one body / soul. That’s why Pein said “we are Pein… we all share the name Pein”. So i think in order for them to be killed each and every one of them must be killed at the same time.
I just hope next week Kishi sheds some more light into the code and move on with Naruto’s training….

anyway… I think Jiraiya actually brought back Konan because if you read the thing about the other guy that he interogated the guy seemed to not know too much so why would he be sent back to be interogated? I really think it’s Konan because that’s why kishimoto hasn’t flashed back to Pein because he’s probably in a panick that Konan is gone.
Also… the arm blast guy, I believe is Hanzo the salamander. If you compare their noses, which is the only thing you can really see… it could possibly be a match.
chapter 372 page 2 shows Jiraiya releasing one of the guys he took prisoner. The other was turned into a toad.
Chapter 369 page 11 shows Hanzo and 380 page 1 shows all the different peins… I think Hanzo is top left.
Also… an interesting note is that Yahiko is the one that controlls the rain and in the flash backs I believe he was a water user. So this goes to show that the person’s original jutsu ability may be maintained when becoming a part of the rinnengan.
If Konoha has Konan… then Pein isn’t going to waste time to come and save her… and also Madara is teleporting his way there as well. I don’t think Naruto will have a lot of time to make some new jutsus…. maybe there’s something Jiraiya’s taught him that we haven’t seen yet… I don’t think Naruto has really been backed into a corner yet without going Kyuubi.
Perhaps now that Itachi has given him something in order to maintain control… he’ll unleash some stuff we haven’t seen yet.

Jiraiya isn’t that tall… it’s just a young Kakashi. It is clearly after Kakashi gaiden… and I wonder if it is even after the attack of the kyuubi… maybe Jiraiya was the one that took care of baby naruto until he was old enough to fend for himself. Jiraiya would do something like that and then take off like he did with the orphans.

I mean think about it, the whole time jiraiya though nagato was the chosen one and so what he discovered during his travels about the prophecy was all being referenced to Nagato, until the battle with Pein where he realised it was Naruto and all the pieces managed to fit into place using Naruto as the reference. I believe the message is for Naruto, Tsunade and the Toad-Sage about Naruto
