Okay, I take back what I said in my last post about Naruto and Tsunade’s lackluster reactions towards Jiraiya’s death. This chapter answered those complaints pretty well. I’m finally starting to feel that Jiraiya’s sacrifice is being adequately acknowledged.
Plot-wise, nothing really significant happens in this chapter. Fukasaku (Pa toad) reveals Jiraiya’s code to everyone, but aren’t given any new clues as to what it actually means. Originally I though that maybe Tsunade, Naruto or even one of the elder toads would recognize the code instantly and reveal the secret to us. But alas, no one knows and Tsunade even orders Shikarmaru to take charge of the cryptology unit to start cracking it. However, this will mean that Akatsuki may have a similar chance of cracking Jiraiya’s code since Pein saw what Jiraiya had carved into Fukasaku’s back. But in the end, we still don’t know what exactly Jiraiya’s code will tell us. It certainly will contain information revealing the identity of Pein’s bodies and himself, but how will knowing this defeat him or his Rinnegan. My thinking is that the code also contains something that helps Naruto unlock more of his power ; very likely it’s something linked to the “key†to Kyuubi’s seal carried by the scroll frog.
I think Kishi portrayed Naruto’s reaction to Jiraiya’s death very well and is similar to how anyone of us would react in that situation. Naruto is first filled anger and frustration - this leads Naruto to blame others for Jiraiya’s death, namely Tsunade because she allowed him to go on his dangerous mission. But afterwards, Naruto lapses into a depression as he comes to terms with that he will never see Jiraiya again. Naruto’s accusations must be especially harsh for Tsunade because she most certainly has already been carrying the weight of that guilt ever since the news of Jiraiya’s demise reached her ear. Tsunade’s lack of a response to Naruto’s outburst is evidence that she is already blaming herself for Jiraiya’s death. Naruto’s words were harsh, but we also have to remember that Jiraiya was someone whom Naruto has spent most of the last three years with. No one in Naruto’s life has given so much attention to him as Jiraiya had. Jiraiya had become a father figure to Naruto, and losing that so suddenly is a painful blow. It’s sadly ironic that, unbeknownst to Naruto, Jiraiya was actually his godfather (see chapter 382).
When Naruto turns down an offer for free ramen, you know something must be really wrong ;p It was nice to see Iruka finally getting some panel time in this manga for once. Although he seems like an insignificant character, Iruka has been supporting Naruto from the very first chapter. Iruka is still an important character in the series not because of his ninja skills, but rather because he is always there to give Naruto just the right words of encouragement when he needs it most.
Lastly, I want to talk about how Tsunade is handling all of this. Being a Hokage must be the most difficult job in the world because you must remain strong and show no emotions even if your closest friend has died. The Hokage is the leader of the village, and any signs of weakness in her will be felt throughout the ranks. Tsuande, as a Hokage, must treat Jiraiya’s death like the death of any other shinobi. But on the inside she must be overflowing with feelings of sadness, guilt, anger and regret. Sakura, as Tsunade’s pupil, picked up on this and persuaded Shikamaru to just do as Tsunade ordered. I especially liked how Kishimoto handled the last few panels of the manga by allowing us to see just a glimpse of Tsunade letting her guard down and shedding tears for Jiraiya.

After he lost a brotherly figure, a.k.a. Sasuke, he actually lost a fatherly figure, a.k.a. Jiraiya … who is in fact his Godfather…

I can only imagine how NAruto feels to even turn down free Ramen whats the world coming to? Plus its a double blow for NAruto cause he just failed to bring Sasuke back again man major bummer….Kishi isn’t pulling any punches for NAruto now.

I think that next chapter there will be more dialogue between the toads and Naruto.
The code won’t be broken.
And Kishi will most likely show us some more of Sasuke and his butt buddy, Madara.
Maybe the numbers in the code stand for page numbers in Jiraiya’s first book that spoke of the Chosen One?
Or perhaps it is his locker combination at the hot springs where he does all his “Research.”
Anyone else feel like if Kishi is going to have Naruto beef up finally..that he still won’t be even close to Sasuke/Madara/Pein?

I said it on the Forum and I’ll say it here … this chapter was very emotional. Almost as emotional as Itachi’s death, nevertheless it was a great chapter. Iruka always seems to have the right words to say. He’s a great friend, teacher and leader.
Next chapter is gonna be awesome!

…and yes, Iruka is in fact one of the most important people in Naruto’s life … he’s a great guy … and i think Naruto considers him family even though he didn’t get to know his real one … in fact it’s a great thing … he has fatherly figures like Iruka and Jiraiya… or Uncle kind of figures like Kakashi … even brotherly like Sasuke …
Iruka is probably one of the most important people in Naruto’s life … and has a can really give naruto a morale boost.

Now another one of my favourite characters has shown himself once more!Iruka Umino!The man that helped Naruto begin his trip to become a ninja and was always there for him.Now Iruka did his magic again.He calmed Naruto and with some warm word he made him feel better.Iruka is such a nice guy!

Ryeno: Interesting observation regarding Shizune possibly being a spy for Danzo. A good idea to ponder as many of the higher ninja seem to fear him. I use “fear” loosely, but why don’t the healthy shinobi just take the crutch from his crippled a**? It’s not like he cannot be outran. What power does he have–as a shinobi or political official? I still don’t get his role in Konoha–Root was supposedly disbanded, so where does his influence come from? Why not just end his existence? Harsh? Yes, but problem solved.

Jiraiya has been such an influential character in the Naruto World (especially in his perverted influence upon Naruto and the Icha Icha Paradise readers). For instance, he has wiped out several enemies for Konoha, has taught Naruto some asskicking tecniques, and made a colossal amount of hot springs and prostitute shacks stinking rich. The Toad Sage will forever live in the hearts of us NarutoMangaddicts.
Two years ago my grandpa died form a cancerous tumor in his stomach. It felt so bad to lose him. He was very cool and taught a lot of things. He was an awesome friend. Like Naruto with Jiraiya, I wanted him to watch achieve great thing, like graduating from college, winning some medals at student competitions, playing in the soccer tournament, or marrying a hot babe. However, he passed away. Although I did know it by then, I was his pride. He always supported me in difficulty(especially when my parents got mad at me because of disobedience!). I know how Naruto feels.
Kishi depicts human feelings very well. Unlike most manga and anime series, Naruto shows real-to-life suffering in a shinobi backgroung. Hope Kishi has gone through all of that and thus drew it on his masterpiece!

On the other hand sasuke has no clue and was lied to HIS WHOLE LIFE BY HIS ON BROTHER! Madara is sooo out of Sasukes league(not even close to suviveing against Madara)Sasuke want stand a chance. Also Madara has Zetsu and Kisame on his side. Sasuke has no idea about THEM. The only reason he beat Itachi; wait let me change that it was a cheat the only reason itachi SO CALLED died was because he was very very sick and was half blind, thats not a fair fight, and know Sasuke thinks hes “all that”. Thats my opinion!^_^

The code on Pa Toad’s back for sure has to do with the Kyubi’s Scroll and the crappy prophecy they all are talking about. But I think the decrypting of it will take long. Such a short before-death final message can’t contain short information. I mean, heck, many secrets could be unraveled through that code other than the main formerly mentioned ones. Whatever comes out of it, I strongly believe that Naruto will get to know about his damned origin (can’t wait to see his reaction).
I wanna know about the other characters. I will like to see promotions(Naruto is still a freaking Genin, hell! hehehehe). What about Kurenai? Can’t forget about Gay, I mean, Gai! Emo Ino! Chubby Chouji! Rapper Shino! Booby Hinata! Snoop Dogg Kiba! Bruce Lee! Naked-Seer Neji! Ten-Knives Ten-Ten! And Lumberjack Yamato!

I personally think after a week they will be no closer to uncovering the code and Iruka may talk to Kakashi, who just happens to be reading the book and is on the right page number. When Iruka gives him the numbers, he doesn’t pay it any real mind until all of a sudden he makes the connection between one of the numbers and the page he is on. Suddenly, they crack the Ero Code.
In regards to Naruto’s Grief and Jiraiya-sama’s death, I went out and had a bowl of Ramen in their honor.

Probably he has the chance of double crossing him. He might deceive Madara, since this dude helped in the murder of the Uchiha. Of course, Sasuke will not forgive that, but his brilliant mind wants to take advantage of the union with Akatsuki. In order to make the elders disappear from the face of Earth, he needs strong allies. What is very interesting is the fact that he just aims the elders and not the entire village. I hope that indicates that he still feels something for his old teammates. After all, now his purpose in life is to revive the Uchiha which means that the Naruto will not be over in a while. Reproduction takes a while unless he decides to take on poligamy. Anyway maybe in worst-case-scenario the Uchiha will never be revived.
Tsunade’s death feels so soon now. In other for Naruto to become a Hokage, others Hokages have to die (except when Yondaime Hokage was elected, I wonder why did that happen).

Furthermore, Sasuke just acquired Itachi’s power and what apparently seems to be the EMS. On the other hand, Naruto got the Tast of Crow (Hilarious Bob-sama).
Whoever is stronger has no importance whatsoever. Usually in most stories the protagonists prevails so Naruto theoretically must be or become stronger than Uchiha Sasuke.

Also, in order for Naruto to turn into four tails, rage must be the trigger. What may have happened during his training that made him so angry…so furious.
Probably, the seal’s effect is fading gradually or Jiraiya with his five-element sealing jutsu loosened the Kyubii. But heck, why would he do that? And if he did so what didn’t he fix it?

i think that the code has something to do with the destiny child. to either explain it so something like that. i don’t think it got anything to with the key to the fox demon because the toad with the key already know everything there is to know about it. besides i don’t think that in Jiraiya dying moments he write about some thing someone already knows.

Comment 59. I agree Sasuke is peaking, but he has a new sharingan. Maybe he will just come up with more peaceful ways of obtaining better sharingans without deteriorating one’s own eyes or stealing a siblings, like Kakashi, although it’s not known how Kakashi got his MS.
Anyways, it’s nice to have a break from the plot to add to the characters. Good Job on the analysis Bob.

Surely the message will be hidden in one of Jirayia’s books it will not be enought to just look over the pages. As every code needs to have a key to “unlock” it i think that since next chapter’s title is “The Key” Naruto’s name or something related to him will be the way to unlock the code.
