Naruto manga chapter 394 – A Hollow Victory?

The fight between the Uchiha brothers is finally over, and after 10 chapters of it, I’m glad we are finally moving on to another battle. At the end of last week’s chapter, we saw a snake slithering out from the rumble after Itachi collapsed. I had thought this was Kishi’s way of telling us that Orochimaru had managed to escape somehow, but maybe it was not. Chapter 394 starts off by showing the remaining black flames of the Amaterasu spreading through the forest. As the snake from last time tries to escape into the trees, it is hit by Amaterasu and consumed. So in the end is Kishi trying to say that this is finally lights out for Orochimaru as well?
Itachi lays motionless on the ground and a heavy rain begins to fall. Zetsu thinks Itachi could be dead but also feels that things just don’t make sense. Zetsu’s probably been around Akatsuki for as long as Itachi has and knows very well Itachi’s fighting level. He points out that Itachi wasn’t attacking or moving normally during the whole fight. Itachi got hit by attacks he could have normally dodged and he also kept coughing up blood as if he was suffering from some disease. Zetsu suggests that Itachi might have been wounded even before the battle with Sasuke. When Zetsu’s light side suggests that Itachi could have just been overusing his Sharingan, his dark side says that it might be something else…
The rain pours heavily down on Sasuke and Itachi, washing away the blood from their bodies. In a scene that reminds me of chapter 364, the blood running down from Sauske’s forehead drips down from his left eye, making it seem as if he is crying for his brother. Lightning suddenly cracks overhead and Sasuke is seen smiling. But then he closes his eyes and collapses due to exhaustion. The last two Uchiha brothers, lying side by side in the rain, surrounded by the destroyed ruins of an ancient Uchiha stronghold. The rain continues the fall, but the flames of Amaterasu burn relentlessly. This may be the conclusion to Sasuke’s battle, but else where another fight is just getting started.
Naruto, Kiba and Akamaru fall back from an attack on Tobi with support from Yamato. Its seems like they’ve been trying hard to hit Tobi with different formation attacks, but none of it is working. Kiba and Naruto’s timings on the attacks were perfect and they did manage to hit Tobi, but like Naruto earlier attempt with the Rasengan, everything just ends up phasing through him. Sakura thinks it may be a special clone or genjutsu but Hinata checked the surroundings with her Byakugan and determined that the only source of chakra is coming from right here.
Yamato and Kakashi conclude it could be a special technique unique to Tobi. Kakashi turns to Shino for their next move, saying that the Aburame clan’s secret techniques will be most useful here. Tobi seems to recognize that Shino is from the Aburame clan – which you would expect if he is really Madara Uchiha. And having not seen any action in hundreds of chapters, you can bet Shino’s really pumped up to show off some new moves.
Seriously, this is the first time in part 2 that we actually see Team Kurenai in action, these guys just get no respect. I thought Hinata and the others might get a big break back in volume 34 since they were ON THE COVER after all, but all they got was one scene, BOOO!
Based on Zetsu’s words, we still can’t conclude for sure that Itachi really is dead, or at least I’m hoping so. It seems the Amaterasu lingers on even if Itachi loses consciousness, so I wonder who’s gonna clean up that mess because the flames are just going to keep spreading. Even though Sasuke technically won, it still feels like a hollow victory. It’s like if you won a game of basketball against a guy who had a broken leg, sure you won but the other guy had a handicap, so it feels cheap. So wipe that smirk off your face Sasuke! You betrayed all your friends and spent three years training with a snake pervert just to beat up a guy that was already half dead. I wish Sakura could suddenly show up and give this guy a good solid punch in the head, SHANNARO!!!

I wonder what weakened Itachi before the fight… Maybe a clash with Madara? Or maybe he was going easy on Sasuke because he wanted him to win.

I also cant wait to see team Kurenai in action-expecially Hinata and Shino(I hope that Kishi will not disappoint us).Well written blog and you answer some question whose bother me.I expected from you to explain Sasuke smile-cuz I think there is much more than simple smile over victory. But maybe you are right and in that case I also wish Sakura could suddenly show up and give Sasuke a punch in the head(it will be hilarious).

I posted this earlier but my CRAZY theory is that Itaachi created a 99% clone, leaving his body extreamly weak, and sent it to remove oro from saskue so saskue would grow more.
this was a good fight. it think it took a little too long but anyway, I hope that team kakashi/yamoto figures out what is the deal with Tobi
I was quite happy to see this battle come to an end. Although long, it was a battle I’ve wanted to see for a while. And now, we get to see the fight with Tobi, and especially see what Shino can do; His last shot just makes him look bad ass.

I don’t think it will matter if Tobi is Tobi. Yes we’ve seen him as a goofy, clumsy type of character, but he still be strong underneath all of that. It could be some guise, so people would take advantage of it, and then he whips out all his strength and wins. But that’s what I think.
But like you SEPGIROTH13, and everyone else, including myself, who has specualted that Tobi is actually Madara, it will be interesting what he does and how he fights. And hopefully, Naruto and the others can hold out until, either a miracle happens, or Madara just ups and leaves. I guess that could count as a miracle.
I’m so glad this fight is over I was really getting annoyed by them…but I’m really looking forward to team kurenai fighting tobi it’s gonna be crazy well atleast it better be
Tobi is so clumbsy because his special technique allows him to be. Even if Tobi isn’t Madra he is still strong enough to be an Akatsuki member (I think he’s Madra though)

Now that Sasuke is finish with Itachi and is exhausted, Zetsu probably going to get to Naruto team battle aganist Tobi .

If Naruto team is able to beat Tobi or if Tobi got away, how is Naruto and Sakura going to react if they see Sasuke lieing down with Itachi ?
If Tobi’s mask comes off that will be great. It will show us who he really is. It’d be intesting if Tobi was neither Madara or Obito, but another Uchiha who never showed there face and posed as Madara. It’s unlikely to happen, but I like to think.
If naruto gets away from tobi and gets to sasuke, he should break his hands so he can’t perform seals. Then yamato should wrap him up in wood. Then shino should sap his chakra with his insects then hinata should close his chakra points………. then kakashi’s dogs should carry him back to konoha and turn him over toIbiki Morino. He cannot get away with running around killing whoever he wants.
I’ve been doing some research. It looks like everything that has happened from chapters 348 to now (Sasuke gathering his Hebi gang, Sasuke vs. Deidara, Pein vs. Jiraiya, Sasuke vs. Itachi) has happened within less than 24 hours in the Narutoverse. Which seems suprising when you consider that it’s been going on for the last 6+ months of manga releases.
Although, I guess it shouldn’t come as much of a shock, since the entire Majiin Buu Saga in DBZ also happened over a 24-hour period

Zetsu will finish up the dirty work left as usual. Wonder if he will snack on Itachi or take Sasuke and Itachi to a secret place for Madara. I can’t wait till shino’s moves. Will Kisame or team Hebi come over to their comrades?

Yamato isn’t an exact clone of the first, he just contains the DNA of the first. That’s while he’s able to control the chakra of the kyuubi, but he still should be able to hold his own against him.
And J-sama, I never even thought about the eyes. I know what you mean by the fainting thing, which now leads me to believe that Itachi is now dead.
Uh-oh, Shino got serious ….. but i don’t think he can do much to turn the situation the other way round….let’s not forget WHO he’s fighting.
But i, for one, know that so many people underestimated Shino, and wasn’t really give a chance, but then he surprised us with the intelligence that he displays when he fights.
Shino probably doesnt have the chance to beat him, but to make him so his enemy can be hit may be in his ability range.
the reason i think sasuke smiled is because he was always compared to his brother(by his father,orochimaru,etc.) and he never even came close to being at itachi’s level.
In ep. 129 itachi asked sasuke if he hated him and even though sasuke didn’t answer, itachi said, “it was ok because they are brothers he was always going to be there for him even if it was an obstacle for him to get over,even if he sasuke did hate him.”I believe in sasukes mind he finally overcame that obstacle.
and if itachi is died thats kind of lose for the story because with him there you can send the plot so many different way. but anyway don’t you think it’s ironic that out of the whole building, the only thing left is the uchiha family crest and Amaterasu is burning everything around it.

I thought it was funny when Tobi realized what clan Shino was from, and said Yuck. Anyways, I also think Shino has this, because Kakashi knew the situation and told told them this is where Shino’s ability comes in. So Shino must have something,( besides bugs) up his sleeve
All Shino has up his sleeves are bugs literaly. Amatseru wont kill saskue because its spreading outward not inward. the 24 hour thing is interesting

if all this happens in 24 hours Madara (tobi) is one quick mover. because he’s been in 4 different place almost at once. first with diedira vs. sasuke, then with pien and konan, on top the statue at valleys end, and fight naruto now. He might have some kind of clone too?
Ok, pretty good analysis Bob, the chapter was way too short, and I’ve read some good theories so far.
As i said before, i think the snake burning is not only a sign that oro is finally done, but also the snake in sasuke is done, now that his revenge is “complete” as tobi said, the hawk in him can emerge.
J-sama made a good point about itachi’s eyes being opened when he fell, concluding that it would be highly unlikely for him to be merely “unconscious,” because when you faint, your eyes close.
Scrubby, scrubby, scrubby, just because Zetsu says Itachi wasn’t at his prime during this fight doesn’t mean he was a clone. It deffinately keeps your theory alive, but there are so many other answers to that as well. Like Itachi’s eyes, the theory that he actually wanted sasuke to prevail, or that he was injured prior to this fight. If it was a clone, which i don’t think it was because I don’t think Pein even knows about this meeting between Sasuke and Itachi, don’t you think whoever’s body it is that the clone is, would be visible by now? When Kisame and Itachi’s clones were beaten by team Gai and team Kakashi, the original forms of Yuuri and whoever that other guy were showed themselves. I have other reasons for that itachi not being a clone but i don’t feel like typing all of them.
I deffinately think the burning flames of Amaterasu will play a role in the following chapters. Don’t forget all the other fights aren’t too far from Sasuke and Itachi’s location. I have a feeling Zetsu will deal with Itachi’s body, but not eat it, and as for Sasuke’s body, either Karin will obtain it eventually, Zetsu will bring him back to Tobi to do what he wants with him, or less likely, nobody will touch him and he will wake up on his own somewhere.
Sasuke’s smiled revealed one of three things:
1.) Itachi told sasuke something that acknowledged his strength, something he sought for his whole childhood, and life for that matter, or
2.) Itachi said something hinting at his good intentions, like “forgive me brother,” as bob said, which either made sasuke remember the good times of his childhood, or just made him feel that his brother still had some good in his heart, or
3.) Sasuke was just smiling because he finally won. Hollow or not, he had fulfilled his goal, which he said he would do at any cost. He challenged itachi in a way nobody could ever do before, and so what Bob if itachi was injured prior. (He deffinately wasn’t half dead, because he used all 3 of the MS techniques in this fight, illustrating that he had to be close to the top of his game at the beginning because anything less than that, he wouldnt be able to do all those amazing techniques otherwise.)
Even if he was injured, if you were sasuke, would you wait for your brother to heal to fight him again. No, thats stupid, Sasuke is here for revenge of the murder of his clan. That doesn’t deserve the honor of a fair fight, even though sasuke would have taken a fair fight if it was there.
And the tobi fight probably won’t last more than 4 chapters, becuase i don’t think tobi is honestly trying to kill all these guys, hes just playing with them so they won’t interfere with itachi’s fight, because he knows itachi wants the EMS, hes the one that told him about it, so he’s helping itachi by not letting others interfere. The same goes for Kisame, Itachi probably told him not to let anyone interfere. Which is why he told Sasuke to go by, but the others had to stay.

hey ssj sasuke i agree with you above.but I’m not sure about Tobi’s intentions right now because he told pien to hurry up and capture the rest of the Jinchuurikis.and naruto is there target so why wouldn’t he try to finish the job himself if he had the chance? since the 9 tails and the 5 tails are the only ones left. but it is kind of dumb to try when its 8 against one.
And the same goes for zetsu in a earlier chapter pien tell the rest of the akatsuki members to be cautious of sasuke and his team because if they learned to much about Kisame and itachi they could block there plans.so when zetzu sees itachi dead and sasuke unconsious, why doesn’t he just finish the job…..Just in case

Thoughts:
Remember, Tobi dispatched Pein to get Naruto. I think either Tobi is stalling and then the Pein brothers show up for a free for all and Tobi retreats or helps.
I still can’t shake the feeling that Obito is still involved with the Tobi/Madara mystery.
Also, there is no way Itachi is dead. you can put that in the bank. he is too bankable a character to be totally dead. I think what his goal was (in some way i haven’t totally figured out yet) was to remove Orochimaru’s presence from Sasuke, which was accomplished. Plus, Itachi didn’t seem to have too much respect for Madura during his converstation with Saskue. There is still alot more of this story to be told.
Can’t wait to see what is on Pa Toad’s back. Secert to Pein, I think.
It’s time for Zetsu to show us what he has got. I find it hard to believe he is just a spy. I expect something freaky!

- Eyes open or closed, I’m still gonna hang on to the hope that Itachi will come back until a character clearly states that the man is dead and not say in the form of a question as Zetsu did. What would be cool is if Itachi came back as one of Pein’s bodies, but I guess that technically means he’s dies.
- I always thought Sasuke’s true goal for seeking Itachi was more than revenging his parents and clan. Of course the hatred drove him on, but his purpose was to overcome one person that was always beyond his reach. Beating Itachi was to prove his own strength as much as it was to obtain revenge. I believe his smile was satisfaction from finally overcoming Itachi, but I don’t think Sasuke would have smiled if he knew that Itachi was not fighting at his full strength.
- In the end I think the message behind the Naruto series has been to never give up and always face things with your own strength. That means not taking shortcuts or picking on weakened opponents. This is Naruto’s Way of the Ninja and I think deep down it is also Sasuke’s way.

While the fight wasn’t completely pointless. it had some really good points and in the end it still leaves you to wonder. i don’t think the uchiha mystery will be put to rest until madara is dead.
itachi left us with some good information about madara, he said he is just a former shell of himself and he’s not as powerful as he was back then. i believe itachi’s goal was to give sasuke some insight on the power of the ms because he know that if he were to go after madara now he would be slaughtered like a pig. so sasuke still has a ways to go before he can step to the plate and defeat madara.
one thing kept crossing my mind during this whole fight and even ever since the begining when itachi first left the village. he kept telling sasuke not to face him until he has eyes like his. this is why i think itachi might still be out there somewhere plus during the intire fight he was holding back. i believe this was a warm up battle to get sasuke ready for the main event.
now for the leaf verse tm fight. i believe shino is the only capable of penetrating tm defenses right now. don’t forget shino has an ability very similar to that which tm is using. think back to when he fought puppet boy. i believe shino is gonna give naturo the opening he needs to land a fatal blow on tm and right when he gets ready to make contact pein is gonna show up.
peins probably gonna tell tm to leave and then he will take on the leaf making it leaf verses pein. this would be an awsome chapter cause you would have all three eye techniques in one battle. i believe pein would start out winning and then would mention something about he killed the pervy sage and naruto would go all out and use that justsu pervy sage told him not to use. speaking of that there is another justsu naruto is supposed to learn that the fourth left behind and was the main reason he sealed the ninetails inside naruto. although that floating scroll toad to pervy sage he doesn’t think anyone should need to learn a justsu like that, we do know one thing when he learns it its gonna be powerful. problaby the most powerful one in the serious. can’t wait till next chapter.

-I deffinately agree with this, and i think this is partly where itachi comes into the equation. Extracting Orochimaru, and being Sasuke’s motive for power the whole series, he has actually done a lot of good behind the bad.
If Pein uses Itachi as one of his bodies, it would make more of a reason for Sasuke and Naruto to join and fight together in the fight against Pein.
i knew itachi would die. now it is time for madara to die by naruto and karin to die by sakura and kisame to die by suigetsu and sasuke to die by naruto
I couldn’t imagine how powerful team kakashi would be if sasuke came back. They would kill who ever whenever, as the good guys that is.
I don’t think Itachi is dead but if he is it is unlikely that he would become one of the “six paths of Pein” unless the bodies change based on their opponent which is unlikely in itself. Tm and his battle is probably just to stall team naruto.

Well i do not know what to think, idk who’s dead why jutsu’s don’t hit tobi/madara/ obito/ yondaime!!! unless toni is just a head!!! duhn duhn duhn!!! well idk, i think suigetsu needs to make chum out of kisame, and Sasuke can’t be killed by anyone unless it’s a sacrifice to save naruto, or sakura! If itachi is used as a 6 paths of pein then WTH could his powers be like…and now i wonder that this is brought up, do we even know who the real pein is…dang this is wierd!
I can’t wait to shino fight tobi because we hardly ever saw shino fight except that time with kankurou but that wasn’t that exciting to me! And in a way im glad sasuke got some of his revenge cause you have to admit it was sad at what happened to him. But i hope itachi is still alive and i think you are right maybe itachi send a clone with most of his chakra to see how much has sasuke grown.
If he really is dead i hope sasuke finally goes back to naruto and the others cause if he don’t right now i think it will happen later. Cause they are going to have to fight together to defeat madara and pein and destroy the akatsuki. But don’t forget about danzou and root cause i think its more to them than what they look like. I don’t think they are trying to help the future i think they are working with the akasuki! But not Sai!
As far as the unfinished business regarding Pa toad, I have heard one theory that stands out. Since Ma already gave the body to Tsunade and Pa can tell her everything that happened in the fight, the only thing left is the numbers on his back. I think they refer to page numbers in Jiraiya’s life-long travel book he wrote on Lord Toad’s command. Once Tsunade sees the face of the Pein body Ma brought in his book, and confers with Pa about the identities of the other people on the pages in his book, she will be able to piece together Pein’s identity.
My question about Pein is now that he is missing one of his 6 bodies, who is he going to fill it with. The real Negato body, if its not one of the 6, (don’t think it is), obviously won’t take its place. No, my bet is on either Jaraiya’s body if they find it, or Itachi’s. But Itachi wouldn’t fit the equation because all the others are from part of Jaraiya’s life. It’ll be interesting.

Eh, I am not too sure on the status on Itachi. I agree completely with J-Sama’s statement on the dead and their eyes, but like Bob said, I would not rely too much on scientific theories since we have witnessed unexplainable occurrences in the Narutoverse. To me, though, Itachi still seems alive, but on the brink of death, as it seems. The smile on Sasuke’s face: I have a somewhat clear understanding on it, similar to Bob’s, however, I would rather hold that in until the next chapter.
Yeah, does anyone else not see Ameratsu slowly closing in on the Uchiha brothers and Zetsu? Sure, rain cannot extinguish it, but it does not burn forever; the black flames are extinguished after a certain amount of time. I believe it is five days and five nights.
I adored the many chapters of the Uchiha brothers fighting and unlike what many have said, I believe this would be an excellent ending for Itachi, the smexy bad-villian of Narutoverse!
Nevertheless, I am overly pleased by Kishi’s intelligent mind to switch over to another fight by using such correct panel-to-panel switchover. And like everyone else, I cannot wait to witness Shino’s abilities against Tobi. Now, most people would not believe Shino stands a chance against a higher-powered Uchiha member, possibly Madara orwhatever, but the Aburame clan is quite fascinating, actually.
The bugs taken root in Shino can harvest off of chakra with no problem. So, possibly, Kakashi believes that all jutsus require chakra; using Shino’s bugs can sap away at his chakra instead of causing physical damage, as everyone else has been doing, ya.
Now all we need is the fight between Kisame vs. Suigetsu and we all can sleep in peace. ^___^

AND i think that Itachi’s powers wouldn’t fit in at all with Pein’s style of fighting ( not to mention that the rest of Pein’s bodies powers usually revolve around water(rain) (except that fat guy that absorbs the impact of a hit)……but we don’t know enough about pein & his bodies …. so we can’t be sure.
Jaraiya wasn’t fully defeated until he was finally knocked into the water. Then he sinks a little and we don’t see any of that battle anymore, besides for Pein talking to Zetsu. As much as I doubt it, it is still possible that Pein later looked for Jaraiya’s body, (whether he is truely dead or not) in the water. And I was just saying it would be cool, I doubt it will happen too.
And Toshi, I do see the Amaterasu closing in, but I think that rather than harming the two, its purpose is elsewhere. Somebody will no doubt retrieve one of the two bodies before the flame can, Zetsu isn’t going to sit right there and Team Hebi (Karin in particular) is nearby. I think Amaterasu is more important to the other fights of the storyline. Both other fights are pretty close, and besides for just burning everything, Amaterasu could provoke a few scenario’s but these are my “most likely’s.”
1.) While Tobi is fighting the Kanoha ninja, the black flames will close in, and either Kakashi will have to do something with his MS to make them dissapear, triggering Tobi to do something or say something important to Kakashi, or Once he sees Amaterasu, Tobi will take that as his sign, and flee to the Uchiha fight scene, and do something, (no clue what)
2.)In the Kisame Sugietsu battle, it will most likely be comprised of a lot of water techniques, besides for the sword fighting, and Amaterasu will more than likely break that fight up, so don’t get your hopes to high for a long, to the death battle there.
I want to say something about everything that’s happening, is all within 24 hrs, and I just want to clarify, all the battles that are happening now, are all at the same time, and not one after another, correct? I just want to make sure that I’m not thinking wrong.
If everything is happening at the same time, won’t it be a while till the Kanoha Ninja Vs Tobi and the Kisame Vs Sugietsu battles, for them all to realize the Amaterasu? And, if they are so close, wouldn’t they be able to either sense, or hear the destruction from far away?
Your right, I was thinking about that same thing, but when you think about Itachi’s/Sasuke’s fight, if you were there experiencing it, it wouldn’t have lasted more than an hour. It was really fast pace, but we had to sit here for 10 weeks reading and discussing the chapters it made it feel like more than what it was. If we watched that fight from Zetsu’s point of view, it would not be more than an hour straight of action. With that said, The 8 or however many Kanoha ninja will most likely be able to entertain Tobi for close to that long.
As far as distance goes, a mile to us is like a block to those guys. You’ve seen how fast and far they run through the trees, so when I say the fight is relatively close, I mean it won’t take them long to run there, because when Sasuke was heading for the Uchiha hideout, one of Naruto’s clones met him on the way and everyone headed in that direction. I’m sure they will, or at least Kiba will, hear the destruction when it happens, but like you said, it hasn’t yet.
Yea, they do run fast. If they get there, I think they’ll get there just in the nick of time. And either the teams set aside their differences for Sasuke or another fight may happen. If they both take a look at it, Sasuke may go after Madara, and Naruto Pein, so they might was work together to finish that goal.
i don’t think that all this battles are happening at the same time. zetsu was there to comment the fight between pein and jiraya and is here to comment the fight between sasuke and itachi. and i also think zetsu has a pretty good salary from akatsuki.he is the commentator of all battles, not to mention he is 2 in 1.:))

Sasuke was probably smiling because he had finally realize how Itachi was to him.
1. He release Orochimaru from his body.
2. He probably was trying give Sasuke a test for his upcoming battle with Madara.
3. He now knows how strong he is in his battle with his brother.
ssj and others here’s why i believe what i do is because of this and its becoming ever so clearer now.

2. This is why Itachi used this type of clone is because he knows Sasuke didn’t get the MS like he wanted him to. So if he is pushed to the limit and thinks he just defeated Itachi his Sharingan will think he killed his brother and give him MS ,and this is when the real Itachi will go after him to take Sasuke eyes then , because this clone was never instructed to take Sasuke eyes that’s why everytime he got close he kinda backed off and like Zetsu said the real Itachi would’ve never got hit by Sasuke simple attacks if it was the Itachi he knows. And if all this is still not enough then just wait until the manga’s tell you.
Scrubby…..but….would Itachi go as far as destroying his own eye sight ( and Mangekyou Sharingan …..and can EMS be done now that Itachi doesn’t have his Mangekyou ?)

Lol, while I’m impressed by your commitment to your theory, no I still don’t buy it. And I’m not knocking you for believing it, I commend you, but there are wholes in this theory. I’ve listed a lot before, but a few more are that:
*Killing his brother won’t give him the MS. Killing his best friend will, and Itachi is not his best friend. I’m not saying Naruto is, but somebody other than Itachi is. He sees the guy once every few years, and when he does, they fight, and he hates him more. Killing his brother would only get him EMS, if he already had MS.
*He didn’t back off. He tried to get Sasuke with the Tsukuyomi, but Sasuke overcame it. Sasuke could not have predicted that Sasuke was strong enough to overcome that, he hasn’t seen him in years, and Zetsu was even shocked. And he thought he got him with the Amaterasu. He may have predicted Sasuke would evade that, but he burnt the body none the less.
*I don’t believe the clone would have the Sword of Totsuka, and Yata’s Mirror. They are artifacts, that can’t be replicated with the clone, and even if they are always with Susanoo’, Itachi wouldn’t have risked a weaker clone with those artifacts. Especially if he suspected Orochimaru would show himself.
*Zetsu’s speech about Itachi not doing as well as he could have can have many solutions. Kishi always surprises us remember that. So he knows he has smart fans, and probably knows they would suspect a clone, as you have. So he knows a clone wouldn’t be that big surprise hes going to spring on us, but it is going to be something very interesting I’m sure of that.
-I’m not dispelling the clone theory, just doubting it. But if in fact it does become the truth, you are the first person I will tip my hat to Scrubby.

I didn’t know one of peins bodies died, I thought he revived it???? Someone talked about Jariya not being dead. Whats going to save him? mouth to mouth from a toad? Jariya started happening the day before but the fight ened earlyer in the day and gave Tobi travel time (dont forget his power speach) Itachi clone or no summoned the “artifacts” with sussano. As for Itachi predicting how strong saskue would be, well if Itachi was a clone then he would have to make the battle seam real.
Oh and MS dosen’t have to be obtained by killing a freind as kakashi proved. Mabey Saskue will get “Kio-Sharingan” jk

Also, maybe the reason that the Amaterasu is still there is because of TOM. If you look at the scene after when they leave Itachi vs. Sasuke, It shows Tom’s face staring and concentrating. Just a thought.

Although there aren’t 31 days in September or October or however it is… I didn’t go back and look. But I think the numbers have more of a significance then just being random page numbers from a ficticious book. But then again… your theory does make more sense.

here’s another crazy idea…
I’m in the boat of Sasuke killing the real Itachi.
There’s significance of the blood coming out of the eye besides it looking like Itachi’s MS whatever… And my theory is to get the EMS you need to steal yourself a pair of Eyes… so get a regular MS… you don’t need to just kill you friend you need to get their blood in your eyes and this allows the sharingan to change.
The only evidance I have of this is the picture of the blood spatter from when Madara and his brother got the MSs. And perhaps Itachi new this was also what he was doing when he wiped his blood on his bro. And also the flaims from Amaterasu have fueled this down pour that washed the blood into Sasuke’s eyes.
This would also explain how Kakashi got the MS without killing his best friend because he had different blood on the eye already seeing as though the eye isn’t from his body anyways.
also trading Orochimaru and Itachi for Madara as the most evilist villian is kinda disapointing because Tobi is so… ridiculous… and now wicked cool or creepy.

for me, this chapter is something a lot to ponder…there so many clues to consider… the burning of snakes, the statement of zetsu, the smiling of sasuke, the real state of itachi’s identity through the course of their fight…and many more
well, itachi as stated is not yet dead, he is just unconscious..same as sasuke…yes bob is right to say, technically sasuke wins, yet considering the lengthy fight, its just a draw, they both knocked out…they both exhausted…they both damaged…for sasuke, its clear how he arrived to that exhaustion state…but for itachi, seem we are still looking the trail on the hazy and foggy place…lot of questions to ask on how itachi behaved that way…as for zetzu, itachi did not fight the same way he previously fought his opponents…maybe in the later chapters, kishi will provide us light about the tale of itachi before he fought sasuke …
that whole fight was horrible i thought the fight that sasuke trained 4 for 3 years so he can kill his brother would been a super ninja blood brawl but it was boring ..i’m glad 2 see shino finally fighting.

I’ve done some “research” and Itachi dose activate MS each time he uses Amatseru/Tskyumi but very breifly.
The fight between Tobi and Konoha such be one wild one. Having Kakashi state that Shino bug ability is the best option in this situation. His is Sharingan showing him something we don’t know. We know Shino bugs eat charka. Is that the way to stop Tobi. Or does Kakashi know whats on store them. But anyway it go I can’t wait to see what happan next. Just something I burnin on

* I am afraid of Akatsukis intentions. Zetzu may kidnap him. I had the feeling that Madara need a new body. Oroshimaru may have made up his soul transfer jutsu from something learned from Akatsukis.

* I like the idea pf the dead Itachi being a CLON. Otherwise he had died almost the same way as Kimimaru, just expended when he was stronger than his foe. Pathetic
But if he was a clone, this must be a new kind of clone. Just make me think in the movie, Naruto Shippunden. We had read spoilers and there are mentions about a new kind of clone, somehow like a real full copy of the original.
* Itachi may have said “I WILL TAKE YOUR EYES NEXT TIME SASUKE†when he touched Sasuke´s forehead until his clone pass away.

Could have been TSUNADE? – The idea of all the resent chapters is happening in 24 hours open the tables. We know that Jiraija fight was earlier (because of Zetsu was there until the uchiha’s battle). We know that Jiraiya send to messages, one to Tsunade, who may have run to help him but end up fighting other Akatsukis like Itachi and Kisame.
Kishi still can surprise us making Tobi vs Konohan battle to happen previous the Uchiha brother’s encounter.

I feel like something like that may happen. None of their attacks are working and Kakashi sends in Shino. So Kakashi must have an idea why no one else’s attackas are working and why Shino’s should.
And as much as I want to see Tobi’s face, I’d like to see Kakashi’s more since he always wears a mask, and even as he was a kid. And I remember the episode, which i don’t think was in the manga, so I’m assuming it was a filler,(to lazy to look and see) where Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke tried to see KaKashi’s real face but failed.
It was very clear in the previous chapters, that to attain EMS, was to get the eyes of either the siblings or clansmen of sharingan user who ALREADY developed MS…thus sasuke cant have EMS, MS can be achieved by killing the best friend of the sharingan user but its not the exact basis, that by killing them the user can develop directly the MS…there something to be done after this…that is why only a limited uchihas developed this kind of ability…
just try to think, killing a friend is so simple to do for a person with wicked heart…
ablood alone from another sharingan user is not a guarantee to achieve such unique ability…
if naruto take time( a couple of days) to develop his powerful ransengan, how much more the MS…
for me, maybe a grief or a deep seated guilt hasten the process of gaining this kind of abilty…but 100% its not the blood…
regarding a clone theory…i dont think its possible… remember clones has no memory the same as the original mind…clone were used according to kakashi to gather informations, so they were effective for surveillance purposes…they can be exactly the same in physical identity as the original but they cant utilize chakra the way the original can do…in short they have no will and feelings of their own…in the case of shapeshifting jutsu, its possible to use other person body and can perfectly use all the ability of the copied ninja… but still they cant totally utilize chakra to the fullest…it means the jutsu they can use were limited…
and one thing more, the person entitled with this technique cant get all the memory of the copied ninja..like in itachi’s case, his clone has no idea of whether kakashi was a clone during their second encounter…we know itachi has of great intelligence… it implies only that in shapeshifting technique, memory and intelligence still depend to the original…
this fight of itachi and sasuke showed that both of them are fully aware…their thoughts and feelings were real and significant…they utilized their chakra to the fullest up to the time they both severely damage and exhausted…their actions were relevant to what they usually did in the previous chapters…there are a lot of significant proos they are really the one fighting not as any clones, or a sort of shapeshifting jutsus
shino now will show how much improvement he has done for past 2 and half year… we all know, his bugs eat chakra and can crawl through chakra lines…most probably bugs will be used for surveillance and detection purposes, confirming kakashi’s idea, that tobi is using a special jutsu, comparable to puppet users…but instead of puppet, he used his special clone(enhanced maybe by a genjutsu) with normal chakra flow created through the aid of a sharingan…( as for naruto, his chakra is evenly distributed to his clones)… maybe tobi used it to hide his presence…
enough about uchiah the fights done lets get ready for shino and co.
I think that Shino’s move will be smart and powerful.But i don’t believe that it ‘ll be enough to stop Tobi.Kishi please show us something about Suigetsu and Kisame!

you know what … body flicker could explain why the attack kinda “phases” through Tobi and not hit him directly. Hinata said that the chakra is present, so he is there. But I think it may be more than just a “body flicker” technique. What if it’s an “after-image” technique, like in DBZ? The body moves incredibly fast, leaving behind an “image” of the person, even though he’s no longer there …. hmmm … the plot thickens …

Well haruto, that seems like real spoiler. Good job at finding and translating it if it is. And if it is true, i think tobi is going to try and pick up sasuke, take him back to his pad, and try to make him his apprentice, somewhat like the new-and-improved itachi, because he is younger. Hopefully Sasuke refuses, and busts out of that shat, but remember, all he knows is he wants to kill madara next, but he doesn’t know tobi is madara. So tobi might not tell him out of treachery, but if he does, all hell will break loose lol.

I don’t think that the 6th element is the ability to summon, cause remember when Jirayia first taught Naruto to summon. Naruto had to sign a contract in blood with the toads and then he could only summon a toad depending on how much chakra he put into the summoning jutsu.
I still think that the 6th element is the black rods/black peircings that Pein has in himself and his summons. Cause when he stabbed Jirayia with them, Jirayia went into a sort of trance and he felt like his mind was being taken over by pein.

I know this was mentioned before, but after carefully examining 394 again and again… there’s an eerie and awkward smile in Sasuke during the 3 (THREE) FULL pages of seeing the rain fall and the blood drip into Sasuke’s eyes.
Maybe Siskin DOES have some credible reason to believe the MS is transferable through the blood in the eyes.
I also noticed that the smirk came AFTER the blood was apparently in his eye, and also we couldn’t see the transformation because he shut his eyes and fell… could it be that Itachi used some sort of body-transfering no jutsu through blood, so to increase the chances of him getting blood on his brother, he kept coughing it up and purposefully get hurt in the attacks? (sounds silly and farfetched… oh well)
Anyways, that snake that somehow snuck away also got burned by the remaining Amaretsu so DIE OROCHI! let’s never see you again.
Also, my theory on Madara/Tobi being slightly comedic during his fights is because he hasn’t seen anything challenging ever since the First, and therefore he toys around with all his opponents in a joking and childish fashion. It’s almost a disrespectful dis on their abilities too.

So you say that Itachi take over Sasuke body?! Maybe you are right(he was Orochimaru partner after all).But I love Siskin idea better-to get a MS you don’t need to just kill you friend you need to get their blood in your eyes and this allows the sharingan to change.I think that was Itachi present to Sasuke and in that way he say “sorry my little brother for being a jerk whole my life this is how I will pay my due to you”.Its just a thought.

I think what I was trying to say was that a battle with your best friend would be blood and … close… kinda like Sasuke and Naruto’s first battle. And there would be blood splattering everywhere kinda like the picture of when Madara and his brother supposedly got the MS. My theory is that the blood that gets into the eye would cause a chemical/chakra reaction thingy that would make a regular sharingan into a MS.
And if it is the blood of your friend that makes the sharingan change then Obito’s eye has filled that criteria because it already has Kakashi’s blood pumping through it. THUS, allowing Kakashi to have the MS.
Because right now… Kakashi being able to unlock the sharingan is a bit of a mystery? Did he kill obito? no… we saw what happened. It doesn’t seem like Kishimoto to leave something like that up to the magic of an action. Perhaps the emotions unlock it.. but I’m leaning towards the splatter of blood.

thaks for the reiteration siskin i understand now.in case you guyys dont know ch. 395 is out.in not sure if it was the coloring or not but ive noticed this with itachi and even kakashi.i know that using the MS puts stress on the users eyes.like then kakashi first used it on deidara he had veins bulging in his eyes,when he took a break and tried again kakashi had even more veins in his eyes.this was most noticible in itachi recently when he used amaterasu twice(but you can notice it if you go back to sasukes flashbacks during him and narutos fight).when itachi first opened his eyes saing amaterasu his eyes had plenty of veins,then when he stopped it and did amaterasu again his eyes were rediciously filled with veins.I say this because even though TOM doesnt have his MS activated after kakashi zooms in, his eyes seem to be filled with veins in ch.395
what do you all think of the guy that itachi killed now… what was his name… oh he was called shisui of the mirage.i think we was very talented in the bodyflicker jutus.but after wathching ch.395 i now know the difference between space time jutsu and body flicker.it seems that the body flicker is just accelerated movement by using chakra,but the space time requires seals or kuchiyose.the way the mangas opening words makes me think somthings: born into one of the leafs most famous clans.he inherited a secret technique.that physically reside in his body.if i play with words for one second.when it says that it physically resideds in his body.is it talking about tobi or the uchiha clan as a whole ? i believe it is specifically talking about tobi.it if were to say that it physically resides in the body,then i believe it would have been including the entire uchiha clan.because it already mentioned that he was born into the the leafs famous clan.and HE inherited a secret technique.is this secret jutsu the justu itachi spoke of ? with so much focus placed on tobi allowing people/objects to pass through him and the way it opens.it has to be talking about the thing tobi is using,whether it is the EMS final technique or not.i dont know
this chapter basically puts a halt on all of out theories about one of the ways for naruto to become stronger and beat akatsuki,was to learn his fathers jutsu.but TOM has a jutsu that has surpasses the 4ths.so if naruto can improve his fathers jutsu then it will be okay… if he can.but its logical because naruto figured out a short cut to the rasengan,it took the 4th 3 years and naruto only a week,hes been able to add elemental chakra to his rasengan which the 4th did not.NOW THAT LAST STATEMENT IM NOT SO SURE.i not sure if the 4th wasnt able to do it because he JUST coldnt OR he ran out of TIME because he died in sealing the jutsu in his son naruto.
I think Madara even though he has a superior jutsu… the 4th was still able to school him and that’s why he called upon the kyuubi. I mean… think about it… suddenly you have this guy that is performing space time jutsu’s and he might just catch up to you? well… Madara may have jumped in to try to kill the 4th before he became more powerful than Madara. Jiraiya even says something about how he thought Minato knew something before sealing the kyuubi and that’s why he acted as he did.
Naruto doesn’t need to be everywhere in a flash because he can be everywhere at once.
What really confuses me is why it took so long for Madara to get the bijuu together. I think Orochimaru exhibited signs of having met madara and that’s why he was after Itachi and Sasuke.
The longest serving member of akatsuki to our knowledge was Kakuzu and he said he had been around for about 100 years. With all this time to collect the bijuu you would think they’d have more than what they had.
Alright… I went back and looked at 255 and it appears Shikaku was the first bijuu which could be linked to the appearance of Tobi not too long afterward.
And what is also kind intersting is to think that without Orochimaru it will take longer… which means Orochimaru was there when they sealed a beast yet… none of the eyes are open? Did he steal it? Or does Akatsuki have a scavenger hunt every 20 years. I think Kisame may be winning… he’s a real go getter.
i guess you are right naruto can be everywhere at once.i wonder what kind of jutsu naruto mother would use since tsunade said his fighting style is similar to his mother.if this is the case i wonder from which parent did naruto inherit his enormous chakra reserve,if it can be inherited.who had more kushina or minato ??
yeah i cant believe i for got to mention how jiriaya mentioned how minato knew something of importance about the kyuubi.in my opinion the kyuubi doesnt like madara,im sure a monster like him would hate being controlled.i think they metnioned this b4 but i cant remember.does a bijuu die if the jinchuuriki dies ? or are they set free ?(this question makes me sound like a newbie).i ask this question because i was showing my friend naruto shippuuden episode 52 when sasuke fought naruto,and after sasuke was supressing the kyuubis chakra.he said that if he killed naruto that he would regret it.ok so is the kyuubi saying this to protect his own hide ? Or is the kyuubi aware of the uchiha secrets(some what cuz he nows of its accursed lineage and powerful chakra),maybe even some of madara/akatsuki plans that he does not want to be a part of,but would not have a choice because madara can control him.
Itachi can’t die! He is just too good of a character to die D:
all i can say is about god damn time this battle went for soo long and i has finally fiished i am surprised the battle between konaha and tobi wont go for 10 chapters
