Naruto Manga chapter 387 – Reality

The final showdown between Sasuke and Itachi continues, but can it be over already? This chapter offers a lightning-paced battle between the Uchiha brothers, but leaves us at a terrifying cliffhanger where it is implied that Sasuke has his left eye removed by Itachi.
At the end of the last chapter, Sasuke declared that this will be the end. However, Itachi reminds Sasuke that he still does not stand a chance because he does not possess the Mangekyou Sharingan. As Itachi puts his arm back into his sleeve, Sasuke readies his own nasty surprise by revealing two weapon summoning seals imprinted on each of his wrists. The battle commences with a flurry of shurikens from both Itachi and Sasuke. The speed at which the weapons are summoned makes Tenten’s jutsus seem like child’s play. It also appears that Itachi is able to perform the same or similar summoning jutsu as Sasuke because he is able to counter each of Sasuke’s shurikens with one of his own.
But as expected in a projectile duel between two talented Sharingan users, neither one can find an opening in the other person’s defense. Simultaneously, Sasuke and Itachi charge towards each other and clash blades face to face. To Sasuke’s surprise, Itachi was able to form the hand seals for a Shadow Clone during their shuriken duel. The second Itachi throws kunai at Sasuke at close range, but Sasuke is able to summon a snake that morphs from his body to block the projectiles.
Itachi pulls away from Sasuke to avoid being struck by the snake, but sees that Sasuke has already readied a second attack. Sasuke launches a windmill shuriken (similar to the one he used on Zabuza). Itachi’s clone attempts to block it with his kunai, but learns too late that the blades of the shuriken had been infused with Sasuke’s Chidori. The shuriken cuts down the clone, but it dissipates into a flock of Itachi’s signature black crows.
As the crows surround Sasuke, Itachi sees an opening. Using the birds as a screen, Itachi is able to use body flicker to get within inches of Sasuke’s face. Before Sasuke can react, he is hit hard and is sent crashing into the wall behind him. Dazed, Sasuke makes an effort to use his Chidori, but Itachi closes in and holds down Sasuke’s hand and stomps on his foot to immobilize him. A fast punch to the gut knocks the air out of Sasuke’s lungs, temporarily stunning him.
(I bet the fangirls are lovin’ that pic of Itachi restraining Sasuke :p )
Like the hand of Death, Itachi’s fingers stretch out for Sasuke’s left eye. In a scene eerily similar to Madara’s theft of his own brother’s eyes, Itachi apologizes to Sasuke and presses his fingers around the eye socket of Sasuke’s Sharingan. Although we are not shown the actual event taking place, a horrid scream in the last panel suggests that Sasuke’s eyeball was gouged out by Itachi.
After acting so cool and announcing that “this is the end†for Itachi, Sasuke ended up the one being totally pwned. Embarrassingly, all this happened in one chapter after his announcement. Can this really be the end of their fight? After training for three years, killing Orochimaru and forming a team to track down Itachi, is Sasuke just gonna lose like this? No special jutsus or secret weapons are used, just a punch to the stomach and Sasuke’s down for the count? C’mon, this can’t be. This fight’s been on everybody’s wish list since Sasuke announced his goal to kill his brother in the first volume, don’t tell me it’s gonna end after just four chapters!
No, I refuse to believe that Sasuke could lose so easily. At least, I hope Kishi is thinking the same way too; to let it end like this is very anti-climatic. I mean, even Sasuke’s battle with Deidara lasted longer than this fight! There’s gotta be more. One possibility is that what we’re seeing is more genjutsu and the real Sasuke is still safe. Another possibility is that Sasuke formed a Shadow Clone in time to replace himself during Itachi’s attack. One last possibility I can think of is that the scream in the last panel is not Sasuke’s scream at all. What if Sasuke had found a way to counter the Mangekyou and has caught Itachi in a genjutsu. What if the scream actually came from Itachi because he was tricked into gouging out his own eyeball? That last idea is a little farfetched, but I just can’t accept that Sasuke was so easily defeated by Itachi. We have two characters in the One-Sharingan Club already, let’s hope Sasuke doesn’t become the third.

I hope this isn’t the end for Sasuke. This such a cheap way for Sasuke to loose. Sasuke is going to something, but what?
I have atheory on what might happen in the rest of the fight. From getting his eye pulled out, Sasuke is going to get enraged. When this happens, Sasuke’s curse seal activates. From being enraged and combined with his curse seal, Sasuke developps MS. when this happens Sasuke mops the floor with Itachi. and able to grab his lost eye and incerts it. After this happens, Sasuke will go for Itachi’s eyes and incert them. Sasuke will be the one with EMS

Ya this fight isnt over, but i wouldnt be suprised if sasuke joins the one eyed ninja super fun club lol. I hope next chapter he pops curse lvl2 and gets itachi on defense

Anyway, everybody’s talkin’ about how Sasuke hasn’t lost yet, because he’s just too cool! But if you look at Kishimoto-san’s work so far, he has a tendancy to suprise the reader. And wouldn’t it be a surprise if Sasuke actually just lost?
And Sasuke haven’t even used his cursed seal yet, not even level 1! If he’s going out like this, he might as well just have walked in there and handed over to Itachi his eyes.
J-Sama, you have a good point. Kishi could have Sasuke loose purpasely to help Naruto out indirectly. If you think about it, Naruto would feel responsible for Sasuke’s loss because he couldn’t save him. All of the guilt would cause Naruto to train even extra hard and make him a stronger ninja. Just a thought
itachi is cheatin by taking the easy way of obtaining power by stealing sasuke hard work

but if itachi gets the MS then it will almost be impossible for sasuke to kill itachi so their wouldnt be a point in trying to kill naruto even to get the MS because itachi will still be step ahead of him

i have an idea i know sasuke didnt die i mean thats just BS for the fight weve all waited for to come to a end in like 3 chapters… my guess is right before he got punched he formed a clone or he put itachi in a genjutsu and possibly it was itachis scream..the only other idea is if sasuke lives i almost guarantee i know what he will finish him with.. remember when naruto sakura sai yamato first saw sasuke and when sasuke pwned them he put his hand in the air and was gonna do some bad ass technique but then orochi stopped him??? my guess is he will own him with whatever technique that was… i hope if sasuke has to die he atleast takes him with him or i will hunt kishi down and knock some sense into him!! LOLZ XD

This chapter disappoints me. I see no real reason to discuss this one. I think we have exhausted all our discussions and theories in the previous chapter. Lets just hope someone gets their butt kicked, either one of the Uchiha’s is fine with me right now. I just can’t stand waiting for so long!

The suspence is killing me! Can’t Kishi just release the next chapter so we could all find out whodied already. I think Sasuke will die and them someother Konoha dude will kill Itachi. But I don’t think Sasuke will survive this battle.

The way itachi poses his fingers as he’s reaching over to pluck sasuke’s eyes out is exactly how he has been doing the flick since when they were kids.
Also, How do we know that it was a body clicker that made Itachi get close to Sasuke to punch him? Couldn’t it be a Genjitsu with the crow’s revealing the MS similar to the Kakashi battle? So Sasuke could be in a Genjitsu from accidentally looking at the crows eyes.

Actually Itachi couldn’t have plucked out Sasuke’s eye when he was younger because this is the first time the two have met since Sasuke developed a full Sharingan. Just an observation. But as someone who has always disliked Sasuke, I hope Sasuke is left groveling on the ground in agony, eyeless.
If Itachi wants a serious, super eyeball, wouldn’t he want Sasuke to have the Mangekyo when he plucks in out of his skull? And why am I an ANBU? O_O? I find myself very confused.

I believe that Sasuke is doing what Itachi did to Deidara.And just like how Deidara was about to blow himself up.Instead Itachi just plucked his own eyes out. Or because the 2nd to last slide is bothering me because right after Itachi says “sorry sasuke” the picture of him has his head turned a little bit as to be looking at another preson(possibly sasuke… just an observation of mine.i could be wrong).Then Itachi says “this is my reality”,whe he says this it reminds me of in ch.385 when sasuke turns around yelling at itachi saying that he wanted to believe that it was someones cruel genjutsu,but it did happen that it was REALITY(shooting chidori at itachi).Then itachi says this is my REALITY,the light will not leave my world(key workd being reality).THEN THE SCREAM.very confusing we just gotta wait until next week

has anyone ever thought of Uchiha Madaras thoughts on Sasuke ? in ch.363 he Madara said sharingans power was shown well,his eyes will surpass itachis eyes.was this a subliminal message of the outcome of the uchiha brothers fight(then again just becuse hill eyes will be better doesnt mean he can defeat him).Has madara thought of the possibility of sasuke killing itachi or does he have that much faith in his pupil ?

I was considering the Manga and their use of Crows for Itachi, and Snakes for Sasuke… Which one is better?
And if I am mistaken, I would assume the Crows are closer to Tengu than Snakes. Snakes are related to the 8 tails, w/ the Kusinagi sword… Not Tengu. What are your thoughts on that guys?

i agree with you Nefarious.if itachi did take out sasukes eye(i hope not),then when sasuke kills itachi he will just take the combined eye back and the take itachis other eye to combine it with his.kind of like in star wars epidode 3 when darth sidious sensed that annikin(i hope i spelled right lol) was in danger.do you think that madara will abandon the lead shinobi fight to help itachi ? i mean the hole purpose of him being there is to stop the leaf shinobi from interfering with itachi and sasukes fight,right ?
how could itachi be killed if hes gets the EMS, look at it this way, it would make it impossible for sasuke to fight him or try to kill him then that would make madara the only one that could really stand a chance. The possibility of sasuke getting his hands on Itachi EMS is about 15%

I’m gonna’ guess that Sasuke’s just gonna’ keep fighting, missing an eye or not.
then that would make sasuke getting narutos help by him controling naruto fox demon then using that power to defeat madara or itachi so it would be naruto and sasuke teaming up but i see it that naruto might not hand his trust right away and thats when naruto and sasuke might have another big fight
dont take it the wronge way butt if sasuke succed in getting naruto trust again then sasuke will get access to the kyuubi inside of naruto tht would give sasuke about 60% in beating itachi because itachi did mention that MS is the kyuubi trap inside the eye but what if sasuke have access to all of the kyuubi powr inside of naruto then sasuke would have to earn narutos friendship back if you understand

Personally i think sasuke is trapped in Itachis Genjutsu. they would never kill off such an important character with so many Un-finished things. Orochimaru is still in his head somewhere, he must fit into this. Itachi also seems like the type to “toy” around with his opponent… So why would Kishi kill off sasuke so easily anyway?
also that might be sasuke is maybe in agenjutsu,and maybe sasuke will faint, and then itachi will take the eyes

Here is what I think. I think sasuke is gonna lose his eyes but itachi is gonna let him live. After itachi leaves the cave he is gonna finish off the rest of sasuke’s team and he and kisame or gonna be on there way. When team kakashi finally make it to the cave they are gonna find sasuke without eyes and kakashi feeling sorry for sasuke is gonna tell sakura to remove his sharingan and give it to sasuke so he can see again. Don’t forget kishi said something was gonna happen with kakashi and I think this is it. One more thing for those of yall who think sasuke can beat itachi might want to think about your opinions. We know that itachi was a whole lot stronger than orochimaru and sasuke admitted that if orochimaru wasn’t sick that he wouldn’t had been able to beat him after he almost died in that fight with deidara. Itachi beat both orochimaru and deidara in a matter of seconds and it took sasuke much longer to do it.

I have to say, I felt like I wanted more out of this chapter. It was fine, just not what I expected. Pluss I feel that this saskue itachi battle is just being draged out to long. I want to get back to Naruto and the others. Oh, and a question…do you guys (or galls) think that kishime knows about Itachi and Madara/Tobi’s intentions, because a lot of people in the last blog hinted that he may, but I was reading some of the older manga today, because I was sick and they were sittin around my room, and I read the chapter where we first meet Kishime, and everytime something happens, he seems to be out of the loop. All he seems to realy know about Itachi is that it is harmful for him to overuse his MS. Just woundering what other people think about him.

You made some good points, New Light. Though I really don’t like the idea of Kakashi giving his Sharingan to Sasuke. Kakashi learned his Sharingan powers through hard work, while Sasuke just inherited them from his bloodline. If Sasuke got a new Sharingan, he’d just blindly chase after Itachi again. I say let the little emo-ninja cool his head for a bit.

That would really suck if Kakashi gave his sharigan eye to Sasuke out of pity. As it has been stated, Something big is going to happen to Kakashi and I am believing the big surprise for Kakashi is that Madara reveils to everyone in the fight his face. Uncourse it will Obito’s face. while in shock, Madara will steal Kakashi’s shargan eye. I know it is a bit of the topic and it has been talked about in previous blogs.

Well yes it would be a suprise but I think TOO MUCH of a suprise I mean what was the point in training, killing Orochi, and forming a whole squad if he was just gonna lose in one chapter without using any real justu. We all know Sasuke is so much more capable of that so a surprise no…a dissapointment, yes.

You know ZabuzatheGREAT, I must admit Zabuza is nothing less than great. I can never forget how he took out an entire gang without any use of his arms, and with just a kunai in his mouth. That has to be one of THE coolest scenes in the series.

I love ANBU. The whole idea of a person that will kill you in an instant that has a huge cat mask with a huge smile. Its just so ironic and frikin awesome.
cant wait until the new chapter comes out but sasuke seems to be holding back. I think hes still have a soft spot and feel sad or hes too angry to even think a way of killin itachi
Na I think Sasuke knows what he’s doing. Pratically his whole life he has thrived off of revenge so I don’t think he would hold back because of his emotions. I think he would hold back because that’s how most anime fights start, they hold back their true potential until the fight has progressed for a good while. Believe me, Sasuke knows what he’s doing.
i think he needs to calm down and thats when he will start winning the fight and mostly when hes angry, he seems to fight recklessly if you havent notice yet, thayts why he did very well when he fought against naruto
Well since Sasuke doesn’t seem to have his MS do you think if he goes Curse Seal Level 2 he will be an even match for Itachi and his MS or do you think Sasuke can win without the use of the Curse Seal
IDK this could possibly be the way it ends…I mean look at it this way…When Sasuke first tracked down Itachi and attacked him Itachi jus tossed him around like a rag doll….even after Sasuke had been training and hating Itachi all that time up until they fought an wut wuz it for…? Nothin…it really isn’t any different here..Sasuke has always been 2 steps behind Itachi and it wouldn’t surprise me if it was the same in this situation. Training with Orochimaru and all the steps he took to cath up to Itachi aren’t jus gonna help him out..I mean its not like Itachi couldn’t have been training as well..jus sayin

There’s really no such thing as a short fight in Kishi’s book except fights that have very little importance.. But this fight is probably the most important fight thus far in the story.
You know whats strange? It’s like Itachi and Madara can just pull the eye out of the socket and just insert it into their own head… I don’t believe they know any medical ninjutsu either.. But about the battle, Zetsu is there, and Zetsu works for Madara so maybe he’ll stop Itachi.. Maybe Madara is also after Sasuke’s eyes.

Somehow zetsu is going to get involved in the fight. The question is who is going to help? And anouther thing that I have been wonding is that can Zetsu gain power after snacking on people. Does he gain their chkra,or does he gain the elemental chakra by eating their people’s heart and infusing it into his body. Or does he need to eat people to stay alive? Zetsu is one mysterious character.

I’d have to say I think this cliff hanger… can’t end with Sasuke loosing his eye so quickly. I liked the idea that it might all be a genjutsu to confuse Zetsu… but I’m afraid that can’t be the case.

I think Sasuke was taught by Orochimaru the acting bit. Remember when Orochimaru fought the 3rd and he really played up when you thought he should get hurt. I think that might be what Sasuke’s doing with this “guh” and ‘GAAAH” screaming bit. And someone said it before that Sasuke hasn’t even used his curse seal stuff yet.
ALso… I don’t think Itachi made hand signs for the Kagebushino… whatever. I think he used his MS to create a second version of himself and so he didn’t have to do hand signs to activate it.
This isn’t over by a long shot. Just as long as Sasuke doesn’t keep using Tenten moves… he’s still has a chance.

Generally, that’s why people are so skeptical about the fight thus far. If Sasuke’s been training under a Sannin for a couple of years and trained for more than half his LIFE to kill his weasel-bro. He should be doing better than this. XD

You know all this “eye plucking” stuff is a pretty interesting twist to the Naruto series. It actually gets me thinking that kakashi may actually lose his eye. Kishi had previously mentioned something big was going to happen to Kakashi and with my other theory-stating that Tobi is Madara’s younger brother and got his eye from Obito (who was most likely dead at the time of the transfer- but anyway, if Tobi/Madara’s brother has one eye now, it seems pretty right that kakashi will lose his eye in this battle with Tobi, or in a future encounter with either Tobi or Madara.

I agree Shikamaru. But, that may be a decision Sasuke must make…Use the curse seal and risk “loosing himself” to Orochimaru, or simply die at the hands of Itachi.

their is little possibility that orochimaru is still in sasuke, good idea, so thats the reason orochimaru put the curse seal on sasuke
What do you think Kabuto is up to now-a-days. As I can recall, last we saw him wasn’t he putting parts of Orochimaru’s body parts on himself or some sick thing like that…

I like the idea that he may have a curse mark. I really think Kabuto is either hiding something, or has so much more potential than he has portraid. No matter what he may have though, in my opinion he is one of the most annothing characters and I really hope someone kills him SOON, whether it be from Orochi, or Naruto’s group…JUST KILL HIM.

Just a little thought but do you think Itachi going after Sasuke’s left eye may tie into the fact that Tobi is assumingly missing his left eye.
no itachi would go for both eyes seeing the fact hes crazy for sasuke light, he could just grab both of sasuke eyes right now, theirs no point of just taking one but knowing sasuke, he would have some jutsu to prevent itachi from doing so
But as we see in the final picture Itachi is obviously going for the left eye…I’m not saying that I even agree with my theory lol it was just a thought that came into my head.

I completely agree NSS7. Itachi wouldn’t just take one eye. I was just simply putting two and two together, just the fact that Itachi is going straight for Sasuke’s left eye, and Tobi is supposedly missing his left eye.

That’s a good point but we have guessed Tobi to be Obito, Madara’s younger borther, or Itachi’s former best friend (sorry forgot the name), but if you think about it none of those three are “young men” so are you saying Tobi is someone completely new Zarachi.
