Naruto Manga chapter 382 – The End of Jiraiya

This is it folks, this must be the end for the great Jiraiya-sama. Pein’s last attack hit its mark and there was nothing Jiraiya or Pa toad could do. Jiraiya lays motionless on the ground with five of Pein’s black belt weapons piercing his back. Although he has finally discovered Pein’s true identity, Jiraiya’s throat is crushed and he cannot utter a word.
As everything turns black, Jiraiya thinks back to his past and wonders if his life has been a big failure all this time. Following the Toad Sage’s prophecy, Jiraiya travelled the world and wrote down all his experiences and learnings into a book.

Thinking back to the story of his life though, Jiraiya believes it has been one full of failures. He was never able to win over Tsunade. He wasn’t able to save his friend Orochimaru from himself. He failed to protect both his student, Minato, and his sensei, Sarutobi. Jiraiya dreamed of having a fitting end like the previous Hokages. He accepted his shortcomings in life in exchange for the expectation of a grand adventure in the future and a fitting end for a proud shinobi. Here, lying at the feet of his former student, incapable of communicating his last crucial discovery, is not how Jiraiya wanted it to end. Jiraiya had believed Pein to be the revolutionary shinobi in the prophecy and thus beleieved he failed as his sensei. He believed the important decision he was to make was choosing to face Pein and bring down Akatsuki, but it is he who is now defeated.
Jiraiya starts to believe that writing his book was all a waste of time, but then remembers a conversation he had with Minato and his wife Kushina. Minato thought it was an excellent book that reflected the real Jiraiya, someone who doesn’t give up til the end and never went back on his word. But Jiraiya was concerned because the book didn’t sell well and thinks spicing things up a bit might help. Minato surprises Jiraiya by announcing that he wants to name his expected child after the main character in the book because he wants to raise him just like the character. Jiraiya asks Minato to rethink it because he came up the name while eating some ramen (incidentally, this was how Kishimoto came up with the name Naruto). But Kushina then appears and says she thinks it’s a beautiful name. Kushina is pregnant with Minato’s child, she has very long hair down to her waist and it’s presumed it is red as mentioned in Jiraiya and Tsunade‘s conversation.
Naming his child also makes Jiraiya’s Naruto’s godfather. Minato is certain it is what he wants because there is no other shinobi he wants Naruto to grow up with as a living example. Thinking back to Naruto’s growth, Jiraiya realizes he has really become like the character in the book – just what is parents wanted. In his last battle with Orochimaru, Jiraiya had told his former teammate that a ninja is not defined by the number of ninjutsu he knows; a ninja is someone who stands firm and has the spirit to never give up and never go back on his word. This has been Naruto’s “Way of the Ninja†throughout his young life, something preached through Jiraiya’s book.
Jiraiya is ashamed that here he, the author of that book and Naruto’s sensei, is about to give up so easily. Through sheer force of will, Jiraiya brings himself back to life even though Pein was sure that he sensed Jiraiya’s heart had stopped. With the last of his strength, Jiraiya burns something into the back of Pa toad using a seal. Pein and his men rush in but it is already done and Pa prepares to make his escape. A dying Jiraiya smiles. He realizes he made the right choice in coming back to face Pein. He did not give up until he discovered Pein’s true identity and pass it on so it may help the others. He also realizes now that Naruto is the “destined childâ€, the future lies with him.
Ahh.. what a chapter. It certainly ties a couple of loose ends together, plus we get a pic of Kushina Uzumaki. At this point I think anything short of a miracle will bring Jiraiya back. Whenever Kishi does one of these extended reflections/flashback chapters, you know that the guy in question is gonna die. Still I had hoped he had one last hidden weapon to use on Pein to possibly take him out in a final suicide attack. And I want to know so bad what’s written on Pa’s back. I think Jiraiya ruled out Nagato or he wouldn’t have gone back to face Pain, it can’t be Madara since it’s more likely he is Tobi, maybe the Sage of the Six Paths but that guy would have to be immortal, some have even suggested Minato but after reading this chapter I think we can cross that out permanently. Either way, I have a feeling the next chapter will be switching to another battle. But I shudder to think what Pein will do with Jiraiya’s corpse if he indeed dies.

Somethig just came to me! What if Pein is actually Hanzo? Think of it- Hanzo was unbeatable, so maybe he managed to defeat Nagato, who was only trying to do good by defeating him!?

He wrote on Pa toad’s about the true identity of Pein. Although the position of Pa toad and the fact that he’s naked makes it look so very wrong.. Jiraiya is probably gone and Orochimaru is basically dead. Makes me think that Tsunade’s time is coming also..
Naruto’s Mom seems sweeter than I thought she was going to be because I thought Tsunade said that she was reckless like Naruto.
Man Naruto has a very similiar story to Harry Potter for all you Harry Potter fans out there. I mean his parents die before he knew them and his godfather dies while he is an adolescent.

Looks like the end for Jiraiya but my theory on the next chapter is that it will be part New Battle and part ?Pa toad going to Tsunade to tell her the bad news and when she goes to Jiraiyas side to give him a Burial he is nowhere in sight. But I also think TOM will be furious with Pain because he was ordered to capture the Kyubi and thats it. As for the next battle …PLEASE LET IT BE SASUKE VS ITACHI. I have nothing against the Naruto battle but I’d like to see the full battle With Sasuke and Itachi first.
Wait a second… What if the Black Weapons are the means of taking over an oponents body and it leaves little spikes all over the body and the final one is on a persons face. And when The oponent is dead the body is taken to the chamber for use

Hey E.R.Nefarious that spider dude from the Sound Four could summon spiders. I’m sure he’s from another village since everyone from the Sound is. But yeah sad to see Jaraiya go like that, but it’s not about how you die…but how you go out. I’m not really sure what will happen next but I think it’s going to be back to the battles and I think that guy with no neck might be Hanzo…but maybe not. Also I wonder what will happen with Sasuke and Itachi…hmmm…well nice post again…very amazing.
Nice ava Jsama, but it’s my worst nightmare come true. Given that Jiraya already has those black things stuck in him, it’s a strong possibly. Plus, remember how Jiraiya was saying he couldn’t control his own chakra when he was first stabbed with black belt? That’s probably how Pein is able to control these bodies, by controlling their chakra.

I’m wondering why Pein spesifically used people Jiraiya fought or came into contact with. What motivated Nagato/Pein to do that?

Me too, but she’s probably behaving nicely since Minato’s sensei is there. Plus she’s pregnant and so can’t risk doing any violent stuff. But I bet she’s done a Shannaro! type attack on Minato as well. Fits the master-student pattern if you think about, I mean Jiraiya and Naruto both experienced it with their respective crushes.
So it goes.
This, unfortunately, cannot be anything but the end of the great Jiraiya, Hermit Sage of Mount Myoboku, Sannin of the Village Hidden in the Leaves. In death, he truly found an end befitting of a Shinobi. Although he failed in defeating his final opponent, he laid the groundwork for his successor to finish the job. Dying as both his master and student had, he can rest with a sense of satisfaction, knowing his ephemeral victory will help restore balance to the world.
You will be missed, Jiraiya-Sama. May the Lord shine upon your soul in the next world.

Well we know the reason why Jiraiya was sent to write the book now. The whole purpose was to prepare for Naruto’s birth. Although I have no idea how Naruto turned out exactly as the hero in the book as neither Kushina or Minato raised him..

I think that is the “destined” part of Naruto. He was destined to become like the shinobi that resulted from all of Jiraiya’s travels. As much as I want Jiraiya to live on, this chapter really brought a lot of closure to his life and the prophecy given to him.

Yell its going to be hard for Naruto to take that Pein killed Jaraiya if Tsunde can’t heal him. Looking at it on the other side it might help him to focus on his fighting skills some because i don’t think he can beak Sai right now matter of fact i know he can’t.

yeah… maybe the Bald Pein is Hanzo… but I don’t think that’s the guy controlling Pein. Hanzo seemed like he was a nice guy since he let the Sannin live. They were probably all really dedicated Shinobi and Jiraiya realized that… and obviously there’s a peice of the puzzle we’re missing.

it’s jiraya’s fault that naruto can go to the 4 tails kyuubi because he has weakened his seal and naruto cant control it so jiraya almost died i think he tried to steal the kyuubi chakra

Hey I just thought of something, What if in The TOM vs. Naruto battle he uses a summon but instead of Gamabunta its the toad with “The Key” And he explains everything to Naruto. Hopefully Naruto doesn’t go overboard with the key and lose control cause this time I think Kakashi and Sakura can’t help him
And another theory of mine is that if Naruto can learn to control the Kyubi’s influence from Tails he could go to Eight tailed form but if He gets Nine its GAME OVER! and The Kyubi is free thus resulting in Madara capturing it.

I don’t know if this is a shocker, but why do jiraiya, minato, and naruto resemble each other, just an observation!

I’ve thought about that & I think it was so that when Jiraiya first appeared, we’d think he was probably Naruto’s grandfather. But we now know that’s not possible.

Even though there is only a 1% chance, I still hope this isn’t the end of Jiraiya-senpai. Even worse, I hope he doesn’t become the replacement for the Pein body he killed. J-Sama had alot of jutsus he used in this battle. The only other shinobi that could possibly teach Naruto a ton of jutsus would be Kakashi, since he knows thousands of them. Jiraiya could pull a Goku, and just roam the underworld and come back….
yeah i still think that this wont be the end for jiraiya, somehow/someway he will survive, because he is such an important character in the naruto universe.

So, I have a presentation on Monday on Naruto and disability, and I was wondering where I could find a good edited version of naruto with the music from the show (preferably fighting dreamers and maybe the new song, which I’m forgetting). Or does anyone know how I could make one that’s like 5 minutes long… or could someone make a clip? I guess that’s kinda a lot to ask. I was hoping to get it from youtube… but… I just thought I’d ask some narutards first.

“Bob awesome blog and Kiba awesome suggestion” Kishi is doing awesome and Naruto is the Best! There is one thing I am worried about-Zetsu. Where is he? Also, why were the pein bodies all people Jiraiya met? Did Pein no Jirayia was comeing? Where is Konan? Who is really behind Pein? Maybe, this suggestion is not good, but maybe it is that kind of powerful genjutsu that can kill people from that manga filler arc with the genjutsu users? Too many questions are buzzing in my head.
Maybe Pa toad will get to Tsunade, and she will be devestated. Naruto will battle against Tobi with the rest of those ninja and one of the sides will flee. The leaf ninja will report there findings and Tsunade will tell Naruto the bad new. The Fox chakra will escape and he will go straight to rain village. When he gets there he will find Jiraiya dead and will go Five Tails.

Just to let everyone know this is my first disgussion post.
It would be very fitting for Jiraiya to become one of Pein’s Six Paths. In his flashback he was talking about how his entire life he has been a “failure” in his mind. And how he is shot down by tsunade, couldn’t save his friend/teacher/student. Jiraiya has had to endure a lot of emotional pain.
I don’t think he will die though because of the last thing when he brought himself back to life. He showed that he wouldn’t allow his pain to rule his life… like Naruto.
I just thought of a blog I could post. Naruto and Pein as Yin and Yang. Would the rest of you be interested in a blog comparing the two??

I really don’t think Jiraiya is going to die just yet. I mean, he said “No, I can’t go out like this. A shinobi is measured on how he dies. I am not going to die like this.” I think a miracle will happen and he will somehow be able to fight and use he ultimate jutsu which will destroy all the six paths and will also kill him.

Well it is definitely a possibility for Tsunade to show up and continue the very long battle with Pein. But I think that the manga is gonna focus on another potential battle and then later flash back to Tsunade coming to save Jiraiya or at least beat the ever-living-shit out of Konan.
I mean how dangerous could paper be. Tsunade will just throw some slug juices at Konan like Jiraiya did and that the end of Konan.
Ns77, I believe that in a previous chapter it said that Naruto’s mom went back to fight in the Wirlpool village Civil War. ( She could have died in battle) But my other two theories are A: She was killed by the Kyubi or B: After seing her dead Husband and her son as the host to Kyubi she went mad and Committed Suicide. And to protect naruto from the village they gave him Kushina’s last name instead of Minato’s

hmm interesting. im speculating a lot on tsunade saying she will be there in a flash. maybe she can do minatos super move thing. perhaps she will be the one to teach that to naruto. also if jaraiya dies does that make naruto the main guy of toad mountain like jaraiya was? there was only 1 other name on the scroll living at the time when naruto wrote on it and he is dying.
im still going with naruto getting a sharingan from kakashi. tobi and kakashi are going to be the ones actually fighting and although kakashi doesnt lose i think he is going to wear his body out using the mangekyo sharingan and give his eye as a gift.
naruto needs to mature more as a fighter cause he sucks compared to many of the bad guys out right now.
I think something to think about is the fact that both the 1st Hokage and Madara Uchiha had the power to control the tailed beasts.
We know the 1st can supress the flow of the Bijuu chakra, or is it just the Kyuubi? And that Madara is the only person known to be able to summon/control the Kyuubi. I think that this will have a huge impact on the story at some point. I mean it can’t be just coincidence that Naruto has the Kyuubi in him and that Sasuke comes from the clan started by the guy who could control the Kyuubi.
Now that I think about, it is kind of like Sasuke has been controlling/manipulating Naruto ever since they met. Maybe that is the significance of Madara having the power to control the Kyuubi. I mean Naruto’s entire goal in life is to surpass Sasuke in power and get him back to the village. I don’t think Naruto has done much of anything in his life that wasn’t a result of something Sasuke did or said.

my theory about naruto’s mom, is that she was killed by pein…minato father of naruto, was fighting during that time with the nine tailed demon fox, as summoned by Madara. when kushina gave birth to naruto, she put it a place with forbidden jutsu no one can penetrate…Here pein fought kushina to death, and she died protecting naruto

Knowing that nine tailed was so strong, minato used a forbidden jutsu to seal it, eventually to naruto, his only child…this jutsu was done only by putting a seal with blood to the stomach of naruto..and the blood used was the blood of kushina

There’s the chance that Kushina and Pein are related, since Kushina was also from a water village (land of whirlpools, which got destroyed by the civil war[s]). Pein was stuck in Amegakure, while Kushina was safe-and-sound and digging on the Hokage. It’s be a good reason for Pein to be angry. . .

Well its going to be interesting next week if its finishes J-sama saga by him being rescued by Tsunde but either way i don’t think Naruto is going to like it when he hears what happened to J-sama but he’ll still be a weakling until just about the end because right now he couldn’t avenge J-sama even if he wanted to.
Just thinking could this be a plot to kill or injured J-sama to get Naruto to come look for Pein and then they can take the kyuubi out of Naruto?

As far as the 1st Hokage/Madara Uchiha plot thread goes, I think what happened is that Shodaime’s ability to control Jinchurriki and Madara’s ability to summon Bijuu are somehow combined in the giant sealing statue that Akatsuki uses. Perhaps their relationship is similar to Grindelwald and Dumbledore in Book 7- they found kindred spirits in each other in their youth, and worked together on ideas about taking over the world, which resulted in the founding of Konoha and the creation of the sealing statue. Initially, Shodaime turned a blind eye to Madara’s evil ambitions, but their differences were too great to be overcome. Madara tried to leave Konoha to enact his plan for world domination, but was stopped by Shodai. The resulting battle formed the Valley of the End, and Madara was defeated, but not before he hid the sealing statue away. Centuries later, his spirit found an evil presence in Pain, and conferred with him. In return for use of the Sealing Statue to further Pain’s plans, Madara would secretly pull the strings behind the scenes. Akatsuki was formed, and the rest is history.

I still don’t understand why anybody thinks there is a connection between Pain and Minato. Besides being taught by Jiraiya (at different periods in time, and different villages), there is nothing to suggest that either of them had anything to do with the other.

There’s the Kyuubi and Madara and that’s the other connection along with similarity in looks.
The summoning of the Kyuubi was done by someone which leaves you to wonder what Minato was doing before he showed up to fight the kyuubi.
Akatsuki in theory, was founded before the kyuubi appeared because Orochimaru wasn’t in the village and didn’t know the 9tails was still alive until he ran into naruto in the forest of death (or… whatever it was called).
Thus, it’s not so far fetched to make the assumption about their being some sort of connection.
now, Nef was mentioning Kushina being from the same place as Jiraiya’s orphans… which leads you to believe that maybe they were related. And wouldn’t it be ironic if Yahiko was Naruto’s uncle because Yahiko was Kushina’s brother. That would explain some of the similarities in looks. The part about Yahiko being jelious of his sister was a bit far fetched. But Kishimoto’s world might be smaller than you think. The time between the founding of the village hidden in the leaves to the time of Naruto (for me anyways) was a lot shorter than I expected.

I think Tsunade hinted at Kakashi being next in line but flashing back further in the manga, Kakashi did say that Naruto had surpassed him… so maybe Kakashi will pull a Jiraiya and step aside for Naruto. This will also feed in to the elders wishes of Naruto staying in the village.
So… it’s probable that now Kishimoto has made us think J-sama is really dead… we’ll watch a few other battles and then flash back to half dead Jiraiya with Tsunade there fighting Pein. In that case, I wonder if this was the longest battle in Naruto history (that being Jiraiya vs. Pein).
You know.. in one of the panels on chapter 382 when Pein thought Jiraiya was dead, he was walking away. Which means that he was just planning on leaving Jiraiya’s dead body there and not do the ritual or whatever he does to make his Pein zombies. So I don’t think Jiraiya will end up as Pein’s body.

dandc1110, there is a possibility, always a possibility, that pein and minato once connected in the past, we just dont know how they related, but surely this tell us that flashbacks are part of the story…Actually at the beginning of the story we dont know that this leader of akatsuki(pein) was a former student of j sama, and on the naruto 1, minato uzumaki the fourth hokage was actually the father of naruto

Naruto Rasengan has a very good point. Jiraiya sent Ma toad early in the battle to relay news to Tsunade. Then, Jiraiya praised himself on never giving up. He then used a jutsu on Pa toad. What if this jutsu somehow transferred his psyche to Pa toad. I’m pretty sure that Orochimaru wasn’t the only of the Sannin to use forbidden transfer-like jutsus. You guys are coming up with some excellent theories.

I say a Konoha “Dream Team” of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Shikamaru, Rock Lee, and either Neji, Choji, Kiba, Shino, or Gaara.

Team 7 as in Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, Sai, and Yamoto. They are six people but I don’t think they’d have a chance against pein. Well I don’t think Kakashi or Yamoto could take a single Pein out, but that is just my opinion. I know I am going to get a lock of flack for that comment cause I am a big fan of Kakashi and I know how sick he is.
Also, I’d like to see Juugo accepted into the Konoha crew after the whole Sasuke vs. Itachi thing blows over and he comes back to Konoha.
And about Tsunade going to help Jiraiya, if she leaves then the whole akutsuki arc would come to an end soon because there is no doubt in my mind that if left alone Danzo would definitely try to take over the village and start a civil war.
It would be sick cause then we’d get to see all our favorite shinobi fighting alongside they parents. Imagine the Ino-Shika-Cho Teams of two generations terring it up.

The one most likely to defeat Pein would be Naruto. And he’d probably do it by himself. It’d be one of those battles where he fights for his pride and tells no one to interfere, much like the Kakuzu battle except this time he’s doing it to avenge his Godfather.

If Naruto Fights Pein then I think Naruto will go to Kyubi tails level seven and then defeat him but as one of my previous comments states “If Naruto goes eight or nine tails then The Kyubi will be freed” But I just though of something- Naruto dies when it is released and Sakura uses Reanimation Jutsu to bring him back. Then either Itachi or Sasuke will make a contract with Kyubi and summon him to defeat Madara. I think that the Kyubi hates Madara

I just thought of something: Pein must have started out with more than six bodies because, if you think about it, Jiraiya said that Hanzou was stronger than him. If Jiraiya could destroy one body, so could Hanzou. With all the battles Pein has done he must have started out with more.

Okay I got Naruto Dies and Sakura reserects him from the fact shown in the Rescue Gaara arc that when a demon is extracted ( also just realeased) the host will die. But I think that Sakura will shed some emotion over the death of naruto and try any forbidden jutsu to bring him back.
