Woot! This is my favorite kind of chapter, lots of fast and hard hitting action as the fight really starts to pick up between Jiraiya and Pein. And on top of that, itâ€™s a Pokemon battle! Lol, I know that word breeds pure hatred in a lot of people, but take a look, Peinâ€™s a total Ash Katchum rip-off in the way he keeps summoning new creatures to fight Jiraiya. Kishi has been spending too many night watching Pokemon re-runs I bet, lmao. In that same spirit, Iâ€™m gonna use Pokemon names for the summons since none of them are named in the manga. Please donâ€™t hate me for it And Iâ€™m no pokegeek I swear! I googled all their names and pics, really!

Jiraiya wants to play hardball from the very beginning and tries to go into â€œHermit Modeâ€ while asking Gamakensan to buy him some time. But Pein cheats; he has his Chameleon engulf him and make them both invisible. Jiraiya has no choice but to create a barrier around him and Gamakensan in order to detect Pein once he touches the field. This is when Pein switches to Pokemon mode and starts using different animal summons to attack.

First off, Pein chooses Poochyena, a dog/wolf pokemon that is probably based off Cerebus, the three headed guard dog of Hades. Jiraiya is confused by this creature because it seems to grow stronger and more heads every time Gamakensan hits it. Poochyena also has the ability to split each of its heads into a new body, forcing Jiriaya to defend against multiple attacks at once. Their attacks are too fast for Gamakensnan and he drops his trident.

Seeing an opening, Pein uses his next summon, the bird pokemon Fearow, to torpedo dive Gamakensan while he is in mid-air. The toad has no choice but use his shield to block. The impact sends both he and Jiraiya crashing to the ground. But Pein wonâ€™t let up and sends in his bull pokemon, Tauros, to finish them off with a hard charge.

From training Nagato (Pein) as a child, Jiraiya knew the kidâ€™s Rinnegan ability allowed him to master any jutsu he taught him. Not only that, the Rinnegan gave Pein the incredible ability to master all SIX chakra types. Jiraiya knows Pein is stronger than this, so he is confused why Pein is only using summon techniques in their battle thus far. Jiraiya relieves Gamakensan and takes the full brunt of Taurosâ€™ charge. At this point, Jiraiya has had enough of playing around and finally transforms into Hermit Mode.

Jiraiya knocks the bull out of the way like it was nothing. He appears from the shadows with a toad-like face and two smaller toad heads on each of his shoulders (or maybe heâ€™s holding up hand puppets LOL ). One is called â€˜Maâ€™ and the other â€˜Pa.â€™ Jiraiya seems to have great respect for them and refers to them as â€œmy honourable bossâ€ and asks them to grant him their power. It looks like Jiraiya just powered up a level or two or ten; I guess weâ€™ll just have to wait â€˜til next chapter to see just how powerful he has become.

Some questions and observations:

All the pokemon Pein summoned had the same ripple eyes as him and similar piercing style, ie. thick black spikes impaled into their bodies. This means those studs on Peinâ€™s new body are also spikes - and theyâ€™re impaled into his face. â€œPainâ€ is fitting name because this guy must be a complete masochist.

Remember that Pein said this new body was suited for seek-and-destroy missions, so being able to summon and command tons of monsters is a good fit for that role. It is odd though that Pein is only attacking with summons when his Rinnegan allows him to learn limitless techniques. Is this perhaps a restriction of his current body?

Jiraiya confirmed that Nagato had the ability to use all Six chakra elements and also that the Six Paths do indeed refer to six elements. But still, the big question is: What is the Sixth Element?

Hermit Mode looks pretty strange - I mean Jiraiya now has a grandma and grandpa toad on his shoulders. I wonder if theyâ€™re attached to his body or just perching there. But this is the first time Iâ€™ve seen Jiraiya address one of his toad summons so honourably (he doesnâ€™t even talk to Gamabunta this way), so Iâ€™m guessing these toadies are far more powerful than they look. Looks like Pein will need to kick his game up another level in the next few chapters.

I think the piercings are related to his name, “Pein” he likes to cause pain to himself and others I suppose.
I think the toads are attached to him because one of them said that form “scares away all the ladies.” Did Jiraiya’s face turn toad-like also?

It’s kinda’ strange that all of Pein’s summons share those cree-pay masochistic face spikes… Granted, HE makes them look good, but a ten headed dog is freaky enough without them! X-x;;

Jiraiya says its weird that Pein doesnâ€™t use all the jutsu he knows and just uses summoning when by 10 years old, he was able to use all jutsu proficiently. Well, Iâ€™m guessing that itâ€™s because the body he just transferred to, the one that look like Deidara with all the cylinder-like studs in it specializes in summoning jutsu. Remember how Pein said he took out that body specifically to kill Jiraiya with. Then thatâ€™s probably the reason why.

Well if u think about it to guy that beat Jaraiya, Tsunuda and Oroch. named Hanzou must had really been strong that Jaraiya was at a stand still with him with now seeing some of Jaraiya true powers. And Pein killed him! Well we might be ready to see Pein’s true powers also. Great!!!!

There seems to be a bug that sometimes cuts off a comment if you use > or < in a particular way. I know >_< is used quite often by you in the past LadyP, so I have no clue why this is happening now.
Maybe Nef did the same thing.

Pein is going to go after Naruto soon and I can only see two ways that Naruto can escape being captured:
1) Jiraiya disables Pein to the point that he is put out of action for some time. Maybe even destroy him by using the technique the Third used on Orochimaru.
2) Naruto goes beyond the four-tailed Kyuubi state.

The frogs Jiraiya’s now got are probably the equivelant of the “first toads”, or they’re the first toad summons Jiraiya ever pulled off and ended up being the most powerful.

Well I think when The Legendery Three fought Hanzo they were a lot weaker than they are now…but that is just my opinion. Also from the sound of things Pein “PIN” seems to be an bad ass. I think the sixth element just has to be TIME…I mean if your a FF fan you should know that…or maybe light…don’t know. Yeah that’s it for now…good night.

Zep: lol, I didn’t mean to exclude anyone… I’m at work though, and didn’t really have the time to list everyone. I can name quite a few (including you) that make interesting comments (Yourshoe, Nine, J-Sama, Somersaultclouds, etc.)

Anyone notice that everytime one of the 3 Sannin have been brought close to death, they have been kept alive. Tsunade almost died when facing Orochimaru , Jiraiya almost died when facing Naruto in 4+tail state, and Orochimaru almost died when facing Sasuke (if he’s infused with Kabuto, you can only assume he’ll be back). Just thinking of that makes me believe that Jiraiya won’t die vs. Pein. I don’t think they really want to kill Pein off either. I’m interested in seeing what they will do with T.O.M. Uchiha.

On a sidenote, why have they never gone into detail about the 7 swordsmen of the mist. We know Kisame, Zabuza, and Raiga… but noone else.

I can’t wait for the story to go back to focusing on Naruto/Sasuke/Itachi… and I was wondering where “Root” falls into place with everything going on.

Like if Tsunade leaves Konoha to help Jiriya, they could try and take over or something and then everyone has to attack their own country in order to take control back.

I would like to know what happens when Naruto and his crew met up with Hebi (sasuke and his crew). I think the writers should take us back to that scene and keep us in suspense where the Jiraiya/Pain battle is concerned then go back to the battle (in due course).

to ladyP: uh im an open narutard with my freind who watches a bunch of anime but none of my other freinds watch or read so yeah.. lol, and shikamaru, i think root will have something to do with the theory that the weird jelly guy in hebi(sasukes crew)is sai’s bro. I also think that kishi besides the fact that he wants to keep us reading, he took us away from the “naruto/sasuke/itachi part” beacues the pein/j-sama fight will help us understand what will happen in the next few chapters

I think Naruto will end if the Akatsuki thing comes to an end. The Akatsuki and Tobi are basically the strongest ninjas, the ‘last boss’ if you will.

Nameless… I’m not too sure of that. You still have the possibility of a Great Ninja War arc. Remember that only Konohagakure and Sunagakure are allies. You still have 3 other great nations that haven’t been that active. We also can’t forget about the smaller shinobi countries. I think kishi has alot of directions to take this. I also doubt that Itachi will be killed that easily by Sasuke. Sasuke is not as skilled as Itachi in Nin, Tai, or Gen-jutsus. I’m pretty sure if Diedara can cause that many problems for him, Itachi should be damn near out of his league.

I agree with Kakashi’s father in that one. Itachi’s clone let himself get beaten by Sasuke just to get his attention, and tell him to meat at “that” certain place.

i agree as well, Itachi is definitely stronger than sasuke, but then again Sasuke has shown that he has some tricks up his sleeve and has good control of the Sharigan so it should be a solid battle.

Also, I’ve been wondering if what Tobi said when he was sitting on the statue of Madara Uchiha at the Valley of the End was a foreshadow of what Sasuke is capable of. If you don’t remember, after Sasuke killed Diedara Tobi said that he is lloking forward to see if Sasuke is a snake or if he will turn into a hawk. Just something to think about.

i have one thing to say, beacues u would probably need 3 mangeykyou sharingan users for some special jutsu thing, sasuke would need to kill naruto but if he killed naruto, the kyuubi would be unleashed and kill itachi plus sasuke(and naruto cant die, main chracter, and also i think it would be a hell of alot harder for akatsuki to get the kyuubi, unless Tom were there but he is sitting on top of a statue of possily him self

To answer LadyP’s question, I’m only open about my advanced case of Narutardism with my friends. ^_^;;
Itachi seems top be asking to die. He intentionally kept Sasuke alive and has egged Sasuke on for years. And when Itachi told Sasuke “He lacked hatered”, I laughed. Itachi isn’t a hateful person, he’s actually quite reasonable and mellow! Seems like he was just feeding Sasuke’s rage…

hey sakumo it would be cool if there were a ninja great war arc(as u said) and konoha and sand vilage would own all the other countries and it would be like some epic war, that could make naruto part 3 but thats a little far fetched, cauz i dun think it would be at all super interesting and stuff like all the revelations that have been happening during part 2 so it would probably be an arc(as u said)

But first I guess we need a conclusion to part 2. For some reason, I’m not expecting a happy ending for this arc. A couple of important characters are going to die at the end of this, maybe even Sasuke.

zep: I believe that was the Shodaime. If I remember correct, they made mention of Yamato possibly being able to replicate that jutsu.

I’m with you Bob. I think that some important characters will have to die. It seems as though some of the older nin would have to be killed so that this may proceed. Granny Chiyo and Sasori from the sand are gone. The Third and Asuma are gone from Konoha. Strangely enough… relatives are being killed off… never really noticed that.

I wonder if there is any specific reason why only the Sand and Fire villages have been the focal points. Once they introduced Zabuza they had an opportunity to include the Water villages. Then, they peaked everyones interest with the Water again by introducing Kisame. I would like to see some of the abilities of nin from villages other than Konoha.

I agree.. But I don’t think they’re gonna kill off Sasuke. Sasuke is basically the main drive for Naruto becoming stronger and Tobi also has his eyes set on Sasuke waiting for him to develop so I don’t think anyone’s gonna kill him. We all know Itachi won’t and I can’t really think of anyone who would want him dead besides Kabuto/Orochimaru.

Also, the idea of a Great Ninja War is possible, but what would be the point? The last Great Ninja War was primarily used to provide background information or was the setting for a flashback. Perhaps to make Naruto the hero of the leaf village.. maybe..

Earlier comments displayed thoughts on the logic between Pein and his piercings. It could be part of the contract that he shares with those creatures, but we’re probably thinking too much into it? A lot of people pierce their bodies for religious reasons.

(And on more recent discussions) I have doubts that this is going to be a really cheerful ending; whether it’s just of part 2 or the entire series of ‘Naruto’ itself. You can tell by where the story is leading us.

Well I don’t think that the story is going to end for a least a couple more years…the reason why I say that is because there has to be a lot of other story lines that go along with the other villages. I mean look at DBZ lmao…but seriously I do feel as if some peeps are going to get killed off but I think there going to be the older shinobis…not the new generation…I mean that would be no point some of them don’t get any screan time as it is anyways! I mean shit give us more Shino…sorry I am a Shino fan lol.

The next chapter, 376, still deals with Jiryia and Pein. It seems that Jiryia got some prophecy saying that one of his students would “shake up the world of shinobi” or something. Then Pein summons two other Akutski members to his side. –> I got this info from a video on Youtube.

On another note, I think that Itachi will end up fighting for whichever side is weaker because he will want to “test his container” against the strongest shinobi. Its because of this that I think that Itachi and Naruto will end up teaming up at some point.

I think good old Jiraiya is going to die (I don’t want too he’s so cool :P) in this one
Obviously the conversation with Tsunade before his departure wasn’t superficial or just to “fill some space ’til next week”… at least in my mind Jiraiya will put a good fight agains Pain, but at the end he will die, Tsunade somehow will go trying rescue him and die too.
I cannot see other way to end this “”part”" than Tsunade and Jiraiya’s death and Kakashi’s replacement as the 6th Hokage.
That will also increase Naruto’s rage against Akatsuki and his desire for being a better shinobi.
I don’t think Itachi, Sasuke or any new or mid generation shinobi will die.

Well if u think about it Sasuke had to die to recieve the power of the curse seal so he’s immortal just like Naruto because the kyuubi will always heal him when he’s dealt a death blow. Back to Itachi i truly believe the only reason he’s apart of Pien’s Akatsuki group is to get the power of a tailed creature sealed inside him so he will be the strongest ninja.
