Another awesome chapter loaded with revelations about Nagatoâ€™s eyes and even the history of ninjutsu itself. Continuing where last chapter left off, Jiraiya recognizes Nagatoâ€™s bloodline limit eye ability as the Rinnegan. Apparently Rinnegan translates as â€œmetempsychosis eyesâ€ and I think we all know what â€œmetempsychosisâ€ means, right? No? Well, here read up. If youâ€™re too lazy, the quick answer is: â€œmetempsychosisâ€ refers to soul transmigration or reincarnation. That sounds pretty much in-line with Peinâ€™s body switching abilities right? So itâ€™s not so surprising when it was revealed that Pein is Nagato.

Jiraiya decides to train the kids in ninjutsu; maybe itâ€™s because he wanted to teach the kids to protect themselves or maybe he wanted to lead Nagato down the right track knowing he would become powerful someday. Jiraiya ends up staying three years to train them. All of this apparently happened between the last frame of page 10 and the first page of page 11, howâ€™s that for a time skip? What I donâ€™t get is how Jiraiya could take three years off to be with the children. Wasnâ€™t he on a mission with Tsunade and Orochimaru? Isnâ€™t there a huge ninja war going on? Well whatever. The three kids become proficient enough to defeat Jiriayaâ€™s shadow clone. Yahiko learns Water element jutsu, Konan uses paper (what element or element combo is that anyways?), and Nagato learns Wind jutsu making him a good partner for Konanâ€™s paper techniques. Satisfied with their progress, Jiraiya ditches the kids and tells them to defend for themselves; but before he leaves he tells Konan to come find him when sheâ€™s 18. Always looking out to the future, eh Jiraya. Well, the current Konan is probably 18 or older, but she attacks him on sight so I guess Jiraiya didnâ€™t leave that good of an impression on her, lol. At the end of the chapter, Pein (Nagato) arrives and seems to be a little bitter about Jiraiya abandoning them all those years ago, though he wonâ€˜t comment on what happened in those years.

This chapter also shines some light on the history of the Rinnegan, and in doing so, also reveals a little bit about the origin of ninjutsu itself. According to Jiraiya, the Rinnegan is considered to be the most revered and powerful of the three great eye techniques. Although the other two eye techniques arenâ€™t mentioned, it doesnâ€™t take a genius to figure out that Jiraiya is referring to the Byakugan and the Sharingan. If you think about it, itâ€™s no wonder Konoha was such a powerful military force - they were home to clans that possessed two of the greatest eye techniques in the world. The Rinnegan were called a tool of god that could either bring salvation to the world or be a weapon to bring destruction to everything. With such a powerful bloodline limit ability at his disposal, itâ€™s no wonder Pein became a â€œgodâ€ to the people of Amegakure. But itâ€™s hard to believe that Pein could have beaten Hanzou with just his body switching ability alone. No, we havenâ€™t seen the true power of the Rinnegan yet, and Iâ€™m afraid that itâ€™s probably something very sinister, something even Jiraiya wonâ€™t be able to handle.

The Rinnegan has quite an interesting history. They were said to have been possessed by the Sage of the Six Paths, the founder of the ninja world and who pretty much invented ninjutsu. You could say he was the granddaddy of all ninja. Now, only a silhouette of the Sage is shown, but you can make out some distinctive features other than his eyes. The necklace he wears is made from six magatama (ie. “the Six Paths”). Magatama are a type of symbolic jewellery originating from Japan. They can symbolize different things, but in this case I think their link to gods and deities is most appropriate. You probably noticed already, but the tomoes of the Sharingan are based on the magatama shape. Now this may be a stretch, but a set of fully mature Sharingans contains six tomes in total (three each eye) - could there be a link between the Sharingan and the six magatama? Is it possible that the Rinnegan bloodline branched off into the Byakugan and Sharingan? The other thing to notice are those two protrusions on the Sageâ€™s head. Either this guyâ€™s got some crazy hair style or those things are animal ears. Remembering back to chapter 354 (remember Granny Cat?), we know that anthropomorphic beings do exist in the Naruto universe. Could this Sage guy be a mix between man and beast (he’s a Furry! lmao)? And when I think about the last idea, the tailed beasts keep popping into my head - is there a link between the Sage and the Bijuu??

Phew, I think I ranted more than I wanted again. I hope I didnâ€™t overload anybody with some of these crazy theories oâ€™mine. Some questions which might make good discussion topics are:

If the Rinnegan is supposedly more powerful than the Sharingan, why is Pein taking orders from Tobi/Madara?

Now that we know Nagato is Pein, what happened to Yahiko?

What do you think the “Six Paths” in the Sage’s name are referring to?

But one thing I have to say is these time lines make no sinse. I mean everybody seems like they are older than they really are but in truth younger. After this does he train Minato?!?!?!! After that when does Minato become the Forth and at what age does he have Naruto?!?!?!! Was it in his teens? Or late twenties…maybe early 20’s but still wouldn’t these guys be older or younger or same age as him if they are they have to be in there 30’s! And if they are than Jugo can’t be that kid or he would be at least in his mid 20’s but he’s only 18!!!!! So when is all this happening…that’s the only fault I find in this series…but maybe I am just wrong…

This is an excellent site. I think Jiraiya is a little in over his head, but I don’t think he’ll be killed off. Maybe the Rinnegan is powerful, but its hard to believe the Byakugan or Sharingan can’t detect its weaknesses. Where are the other Rinnegan users?

perhaps rinnengan only happens to one person and its not even a bloodline and its only bestowed on one special person(also wood is a combination of 2 elements)

Yup, that’s definitely another possibility, demons are a reoccurring theme in this series.

I remember that too (you remember what chapter/episode?) but since Madara was the founder of the Uchiha clan, I thought they were just calling him a devil because of his evil intentions.

yourshoe is right, wood is a combo of earth and water, similar to how Haku’s ice element was wind and water combo. If we’re talking about six chakra elements, then I think the sixth element is “Void”. Rather, it’s the lack of any elements or in other words: Nothing. It may also have to do with all these dimensional rift/teleportation jutsus we hear about. Also, Pein’s ring has the symbol for “nothing” or “zero” written on it - connection?

Jiraiya said that the Rinnegan was the most powerful of the three eye techniques, but he said that probably not knowing about the Mangekyou Sharingan. Remember when Itachi used the Amaterasu and he didn’t know what the hell that black flame was? His image of the sharingan is probably the three tomoe sharingan. Also, remember what Tobi said about “the true power of the Sharingan.” Pein probably needs this power for his ultimate ideal. Either that or this true power even surpasses the Rinnegan.
Anyone notice that Nagato looks almost identical to Konan when Jiraiya left them? It’s possible that the two are siblings.

I think this eye technique is kind of a cop out by the artists I mean the bykugan and sharigan are so cool and this one kind of sucks.

Lets remember that the sharingan its a mutation of the byakugan, so madara’s father or mother, should be a branch member of the byakugan clan.

Now, why 2 of the GReat eye techniques are from the leaf??

And if 2 of the eye techniques are part of the leaf, then why jiraiya got so surprised when he saw the third?? He lives in a place were there are 2 eye thecniques.

Another thing, theres a girl in konoha she was the teacher of shyno, kiiba and hinata.

Nah, her pupils are red; they look a bit weird in the manga since there is no color but I don’t think there’s any link to Rinnegan.

Jiraiya was probably shocked by simply finding the third eye technique, since it seems to be so rare. And you’re right, Kurenai does have similar eyes, but they don’t seem to do much! ^_^;;
Perhaps the sharangan is the result of mixing the byakugan and the rinnegan! The byakugan has more taijutsu affiliated abilities, whereas the rinnegan has more of a jutsu-based affect, so mixing them together could make an eye ability as versatile as the sharingan!

I’d still go with Bob’s idea that the sharringan and byakugan decended from the rinnegan. After all if the Sage was the one who created ninjutsu that means sharringan and byakugan didn’t exist before that because it takes a jutsu to activate them.

But what does it take to activate the Rinnegan’s ability? O_o;; Emotional stress? Since we haven’t seen Pein in serious action, it makes one wonder. And the only time we’ve seen the resultis of the rinnegan is in the flashback and that didn’t tell us a whole lot! So how do you think you activate the thing without a seal? Does he just tell himself he hates the world and things just explode around him?

I think that after Jiraiya left Pein and the others they went to Hanzou and was trained by him until he couldn’t teach them anymore and he was killed just as when Sasuke killed Orochimaru. Madara maybe helping Pein to become stronger by sealing the power of a buuji inside him, since Madara do have the ability to summon buuji it would make sense he can seal them inside a person.

The sage of six path can be both the founder of the ninja world and the father of Uchiha Madara. Even though the time frame is completely different. But If the Sage was a demon his life span would be a lot longer than a normal human. He could have founded the ninja world and then later eloped with a woman from the Hyuuga clan.

yeah, i read that to in a forum a while back. The guy who wrote it atmited that it was just theory of his. So it might not be true. He did have some interesting evidence to back up his thoughts though.

i know this is out of topic, but just thinking about LadyP’s pairing blog. and i’m wondering, how will that work. i mean if Japan is a “mashista country”, as we say in my culture, will the girls have to change their last names, according to the clans they marry/join to? i.e. NejiTen; will tenten be named, Tenten Hyuga, and dose she have to live with the hyuga? Just wondering, and can’t keep this thought out of my head. Can’t wait for LadyP’s blog, have so many questions.

Hyuuga clan is one of the oldest clans in Konoha. They have been there ever since the establishment of the hidden village. Many years ago there was a girl from Hyuuga clan who fell in love with an outsider. She decided to marry herself to the young man despite the strong protests from her own clan. But this man was no ordinary human. In fact, this man was not a human at all. His name was Sojobo. He was the King of Tengu.
There are two types of tengus, Karasu tengu (a crow-like creature with beak and wings) and Konoha tengu (also known as Yamabushi tengu). Sojobo was a Konoha tengu. He had long nose and white hair with a pair of black wings on his back. As the King of Tengu, Sojobo possessed some very mystical powers. He carried a fan made of Fatsia leaf that could create a storm (therefore people sometimes call this type of leaf as Tengu no Uchiwa or Tengu’s fan). He could teleport himself or any other things from one place to another. He could also communicate with people telepathically or even invade their minds and drive them to madness. Besides, Sojobo was also known for his shapeshifting ability. He sometimes transformed himself into human to interact with people.
Anyway, this girl from Hyuuga was in love with Sojobo taking the human form without knowing his true identity. She married him shortly after they met each other. A year or two later, she was pregnant and gave birth to their first son. Sojobo named this son Uchiha, Uchiha Madara, after Uchiwa which means fan. And of course as we know, fan also later became the symbol of this new clan.
Everything was good. Uchiha Madara soon grew up to become a very powerful shinobi. He not only inherited the Kekkei Genkai from his mother but with the Tengu blood inside him the Byakugan had evolved into an even more dreadful formâ€”the Sharingan! This new bloodline had 2 levels: Normal Sharingan and Mangekyou Sharingan. Like his tengu father, Madara possessed some incredible magical powers. He was able to use telepathy to invade people’s minds, or even teleport himself across a short distance. When he turned on the Mangekyou Sharingan (he had the normal Sharingan on 24/7 just like his Hyuuga kin), the eyes would further intensify his powers and bring him even closer to a tengu form. He had developed 3 jutsus under this state, namely Tsukiyomi (to control people’s minds and drive them insane), Amaterasu (to teleport objects into another dimension).But good things do not last long. As Madara was about to reach his adulthood, Sojobo began to reveal his true intention. Sojobo didn’t marry the girl from Hyuuga out of love. He was only looking for a perfect body, a container (probably to achieve greater powers), and he figured the best way was to create one with his own blood. He was planning on taking over Madara’s body once he reached his adulthood. It didn’t take Uchiha Madara long to find out this appalling truth. He felt a mixture of shock and anger. He felt he was being used but he wasn’t going to give in such easily, at least not without a fight. But Madara knew only too well that no matter how strong he was he stood no chance against the King of Tengu. Out of desperation he sought for the legendary Bijuuâ€”Kyuubi (the God of Fire).Kyuubi was very impressed by Madara’s abilities. A secret pact was made and Kyuubi agreed to lend his power and chakra to Uchiha Madara. Soon Madara mastered the katon and he could even cast a dark fire that would burn for 7 days and 7 nights after performing the Amaterasu. But even with these newly gained powers and a huge supply of chakra from the Kyuubi, Uchiha Madara was only able to beat his demon father by a hair’s breadth. He couldn’t finish him once and for all but only managed to seal him up. However, the seal he used was a very special one. To break the seal it requires the Kyuubi’s chakra and also not one but 3 Uchiha members who can wield the Mangekyou Sharingan. Each MS user has to cast a different MS jutsu at the same time and when the 3 jutsus–Tsukiyomi, Amaterasu and Susanoo–combine, the great evil will be unleashed. It’s a tall order and Madara thought it would be enough to seal up the demon for eternity.

story line:
20 years ago . a new uhciha was born. a very powerfull one his name was itachi uchiha. he knew the truth and he wanted to free the tengo king and sacrifies his body to him. so he knew his clan wont accept this and he needs 3 MS users so he found another UCHIHA MADARA. . he needed another one. so he creted the path of avenger for his lil brother. wen sasuke gets it . his plan would have worked parfectly.
