Naruto Manga chapter 370 – Uneasiness
This chapter is almost pure dialogue but it is loaded with vital information about Naruto, Minato, Kyuubi and even Madara Uchiha. So where should we begin?
First off is this odd looking frog that Jiraiya summons (or rather hurls up). Its name is not revealed but it can float, and as you can see, the torso of its body is composed of a long cylinder which is actually a large wound up scroll. Jiraiya believed that the fight with Pein might get “a little rough”, so he presses his hand seal into the scroll. My guess is that its some kind of insurance for the upcoming fight – maybe a required preparation for a special summon? Or perhaps a teleportation marking to get himself quickly out of trouble? Who knows. The important part is when the frog mentions that the “key” to Naruto’s Eight Trigrams Seal (otherwise know as the Kyuubi Seal) is written on the inside of his stomach. Here’s a look at the seal on Naruto’s Kyuubi Seal: (screen capture from episode 1)
It was the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, who originally wrote down the “key” to the Seal and left it in Jiraiya’s care; activating it would essentially release Kyuubi. One reason behind Minato’s actions may have been to have a way for the Seal to be reinforced if it ever were to weaken (and it is). But Jiraiya tends to believe that the “key” was meant to be given to Naruto one day because Minato planned for his son to master “that jutsu.” It’s not clear what “that jutsu” is actually referring to; it could mean the Dead Demon Seal Minato had used to contain Kyuubi’s evil chakra, the Eight Trigrams Seal itself or something else completely.
The frog also mentions that Jiraiya had once tried messing with the “Four Elephant Seal” during a training session with Naruto; it occurred during the time skip between part I and part II. Jiriaya did it as part of Naruto’s training in order to have him gain better control of the Kyuubi chakra. But having only opened a tiny crack in the seal, Kyuubi’s chakra flooded out and overwhelmed Naruto, turning him into the Four-tails state (see chapter 293). Jiraiya was said to have nearly died in that incident. I’m still not entirely sure what the “Four Elephant Seal” refers to (perhaps one half of the the Eight Trigrams Seal?). Since tempering with the four seals unleashed a four-tail transformation, one possibility is that each of the eight seals restrains one of Kyuubi’s tails, with the final ninth tail being held by the spiral in the center.
Jiraiya was Minato’s sensei and understands that he wasn’t the type of person to do something without meaning. Minato must have foreseen something extremely important in the future to cause him to seal such an evil monster as Kyuubi inside his own son. Jiraiya goes on to explain that Minato went to the trouble of separating the Kyuubi’s charka into light and dark sides (or yin and yang), and only giving Naruto the light half. If you rewatch episode 53 in the original Naruto anime, you can get a better understanding of the purpose of the Eight Trigrams Seal. In short, it makes it possible for the Kyuubi’s chakra to flow into Naruto’s chakra system. It’s clear now that Minato sealed the Kyuubi inside Naruto in order to have his son someday master the control over its chakra and perhaps master a particular jutsu. His reason was likely because he foresaw some extreme danger in the future. And that brings us to the next point:
Madara Uchiha.
Through Jiraiyas conversation, it is now known that Madara was one of the founders of Konoha. Now if we assume Tobi is indeed Madara Uchiha, it can be surmissed that Madara also had visions of world conquest and probably wanted to mold Konoha into an organization that would fulfill that goal. His goal would definitely have clashed with the more pacifistic ideals of the First Hokage and his brother, the Second Hokage. Madara and the First fought in a famous battle at the “Valley of the End” (same place where Sasuke and Naruto fought) and Madara was supposedly killed. Jiraiya brings up Madara Uchiha because he is starting to doubt more and more that Kyuubi’s appearance in Konoha 15-16 years ago was merely a natural disaster or an act of god. Jiraiya is convinced that the Kyuubi was summoned and that the only person who was capable of such a feat was Madara Uchiha. And we know that Kyuubi and Madara have at least met before because in chapter 309, Kyuubi tells Sasuke that his eyes remind him of those of Madara’s.
So everything is starting to slowly come together now. I got to take a moment to applaud Kishimoto because he has done a spectacular job weaving all these plot elements together. In the last page of chapter 370, the idea that Tobi is indeed Madara Uchiha is reinforced by a scene of him sitting on top of the statue of Madara Uchiha at the Valley of the End, staring intently at the statue of the First Hokage.

None the less, I’m still not totally convinced that Tobi is Madara Uchiha. Perhaps Madara could do the same as Orochimaru and switched bodies as time progressed, and used Obito’s as a host. Odds are good that Ishimoto will come up with some brilliant plot-twist that will make all of out theories worthless! XD Who knows?

Well, it DOES seem possible. After all, there’s no better motive than revenge… But it seems a bit odd. If Madara Uchiha was bested by the First Hokage, it’s not very likley that he’d be able to actually summon something as powerful as the Nine Tailed Fox Demon?

That’s the exact kind of theory I’ve leaning towards, but the missing piece is the time difference between Madara’s death at the valley of the end (80-100 years ago?) and Obito’s death (15-16 years ago?) in kakashi gaiden. The only possible answer is that Madara somehow survived that battle in some form (perhaps a deal with Kyuubi?).

Notice that the time of Obito’s death (15-16 years ago) overlaps with the time of Kyuubi appearance in Konoha (15-16 years ago). And of course, the first event came before the second because Minato Namikaze was still alive when Obito died.

Remember when Tsunade said her grandfather, the First (and Yamato to an extent), had the ability to tame tailed beasts?
There is one thing I dont get if Madara wanted revenge why did he take so long to have it when Naruto’s father was hokage and why summon a beast to do his job rather then take an army to destroy konoha?

Maybe he needed a suitable body like Obito’s in order to gain his full powers again. And I think Kyuubi is far more powerful than any shinobi army, Madara probably never figured the Fourth had the ability to seal it.
I wonder why he would want Obito’s body to gain his full power? I rember Obito just getting his bloodline and wouldn’t obito’s body decay? He died when he was around 13-14 years old and Kyuubi attacked possibly 5 years after he died.
Ok one last thing i need to say before i go night night if Madara can be this strong i wish luck to naruto and firneds when the time comes to actully fight him and that pein guy ^_^ (prays to heaven these fights will be good).
Who knows? Maybe Obito had latent powers or maybe the body needed to be a direct descendant (like a son or grandson). This is pure speculation, but perhaps Obito was Madara’s grandson? Lol, I’m full of crazy theories tonight.

Ok for one, from what I read the reason why the Uchiha clan has the Sharingan is because Madara’s father was a demon and his mother was human. He got the Sharingan from his father, so being 1/2 demon he probably has a longer lifespan then others.
Second, remember what Sasuke did with Manda and his Sharingan. If Sasuke could control Manda with his Sharingan why couldn’t Madara control the Kyubi, I mean didn’t the Kyubi say something about not seeing those eyes since Madara. I’m guessing Madara used his power to control the Kyubi but doing that weakened him, I mean hello the Kyubi has to take a lot out of you to control. I don’t know, just my opinions

Wow…this is all pretty insane the nxt say 10 chapters could make or break naruto in ome cases but i believe theres some serious potential in these story lines….im sooo excited!!
What I don’t get is where Minato had time to plan his son’s future. I mean, fighting Kyuubi doesn’t really give you time to sit down and think.

Hurray! Literary analysis and plot theories! This is great! I’m still confident that Madara, Obito and the Kyuubi are closley connected in the story line… As for the survival of Madara, there could simply be a hole in historical documentation. From what I can recall, the only thing we really know about the fight between Madara and the First is that the First Hokage won. With that little detail, the first Hokage could have simply left Madara badly wounded at the site of their battle. Or Madara could have been swept away by the river after the fight and only presumed dead. There’s too many gaps in information to really say.

I keep thinking back to the part where Jiriaya explained that Minato had separated Kyuubbi’s chakra into light and dark sides. The light side went to Naruto, but what happens to the dark side?

I’m sure Itachi knows who Tobi really is. But if he is indeed Madara, I’m sure Itachi is way out of his league and so remains obedient. This may be also connected to why he wanted to “talk” to Sasuke and Naruto in a recent chapter. Perhaps Itachi is working against Madara’s plans. I’m not saying the guy’s on the good side now, but maybe he’s got his own agenda as well.
I think that the Dark chakara resides in the part of Naturo’s mind where Kyuubi is held. You know, that prison-esque place? It makes sense. Gaara was completely fuzzed with his demon and he suffered for it; he has/had insomnia, mood swings and the mental stability of a genocidal-psycho-killer. But Naruto had his separated and was relatively normal. I think the dark side of the chakara IS the Kyuubi as a separate consciousness.
i dont think itachis evil because he decides not to kill kakashi in part 1 and when kisame tries to atack after Gai arives he tells them that they are leaving because he doesnt want to kill if he wanted to he could have finished them off quickly. I dont think itachi kiled the uchiha clan but he found it like that and pretended that he killed them all because sasuke could become stronger if he thought the enemy was him instead of someone who he didnt know and he would find it hard to hate someone who he never met although they killed the entire clan itachi thought that no one will believe him if he told the truth so he took the blame for something he didnt do. its not a coincidence that itachis got mangeykou sharingan before the clan got wiped out and he thought that the clan was in danger and everyone will die anyway and the only chance he had was to gain a new sharingan in time but he miscalculated it and the attack happened sooner than he anticipated after killing shisui for the good of the clan in order to be strong enough to protect the clan

If you think about it, have we ever seen Itachi in the act of killing somebody? If you look back to the slaughter of the Uchiha clan, we never actually see Itachi conducting any of the killings he is accused of. Sasuke walks in on him standing before his dead parents, but we never saw Itachi committing the act.
He and Sasuke share a lot similarities. Both have the power to kill almost anyone they please, but choose not to. Arrogance or mercy?
first of all i have to say that iam sooooo happy for naruto becuase his dad is someone who he really admires. if naruto finds out that madara did summon that kyuubi and create havoc in konoha and also cuased his dad’s life (minato) he will go hit the roof any way can’t wait to whats is going to happend next.

I’m guessing it’s both. Sasuke may have the giant-ego-tough-guy act going on, but he’s not without shame. Itachi is a more interesting question… He’s merciful enough to make all of his killings quick, but he DID slaughter an entire village…. Answers probably vary from person to person.
Well, Sasuke’s family could be direct decendants of Madara. But I’m thinking Obito might be his great-great-great-whatever-grandson. Perhaps the series will end like the battle between the First and Madara; a fight between Sasuke and Naruto to the death.

Yes, that would be interesting, seeing how long Kishimoto is going to continue this manga. I mean, how powerful would the Konoha 12 be as 18 year olds? The thought of that is quite intimidating. Probably they’ll all be anbu. >_>
E.R.Nefarious’s earlier comment on the fact that we only know Shodaime won and Madara’s body might have been washed down the river is something to think about. And about Madara’s looks, it doesn’t match with Tobi’s. So he may have used Obito’s body by chance.
I still don’t get how Minato could have planned this far ahead for his son.
The entire point of Naruto for me is to see if Naruto actually does become hokage. Meaning, is he going to live or not. And the entire Sasuke and Itachi controversy, we’re at the point where we don’t know which one will die. I don’t think Itachi is going to die though for a while. He might be one of the last Akatsuki to live besides Pein and Madara.

I am a little upset cause what if i get older and stop watching the show? This was the only show i took real intrest in a cartoon :/ it did take around two years for part 1 to be finished and we just barly started part 2 and I bet this will take very long to even start another

Also, speaking of character deaths, I have this gut feeling Sai might be one of the next ones to go. Remember how he was going on about his new mission being to preserve the bond between Naruto and Sasuke? I think he will die trying to prevent Sasuke from murdering Naruto. He already saved Naruto once during their first encounter after the time skip. But if Sasuke truly gets serious, Sai would have to put his life on the line to stop him.

I was wondering about this for awhile, but if Uchiha Madara has the power to command even Pein, why did he lose to the First Hokage? Pein’s power surely exceeds the Third Hokage’s and the Third was regarded as more powerful than the First and Second right?
I was also thinking that Uchiha Madara is somehow connected to Yamato. If you look at his face in chapter 370 he sort of resembles Yamato dont you think? His hair style is similar to Tobi’s hairstyle as well.
I’m afraid that Jiraiya is a goner. The manga totally sets up for his death. I mean with him getting out the key and saying “just in case something happens to him.” Also that serious talk he had with Tsunade. I really hope he doesn’t die as he is my favorite character, but this anime seems to stress self sacrifice.
i bet ithachi is leading saskue into a trap where tobi/madara/obito wil be present and they wil tel him there goal and the complete truth did it ocur to anyone that tobi is in the outscourts of konoho and might be heading towards it and where is the “uchiha hideout” that ithachi tels saksue, bob?

I am now convinced that Uchiha Itachi is not evil. As you have said there hasn’t been a case where he is actually seen murdering anyone, and when he has had the chance, he choose not to. He could have easily taken out Kakashi, and when he was trapped in the belly of the mountain toad, had he have aimed Amaterasu at Jiraiya, I believe he could have killed him also. There’s also no proof that he killed his best friend Shisui. If the Mangekyou sharingan is gained by killing your best friend, I don’t understand how Kakashi could have obtained it. Even if it was an alternate version, it is still the Mangekyou isn’t it? Also he shed tears when he believed Sasuke to be dead. I think that he has some other motive and is not as heartless as he lead us to believe.

Yet another thought: When the Fourth uses the phrase “That Jutsu”, could he mean the jutsu used for Naruto’s seal? Like, if needed, Naruto could break the seal on himself and release the Kyuubi… I don’t know why he’d really want to do that, though….

Ok so did anyone notice that the seal on the scroll looks just like the seal on Naruto, and Jiraiya saying that one 1/2 of the Kyubi’s chakra is in Naruto. Did anyone stop to think the other 1/2 was sealed in the scroll and that Jiraiya absorbed it to use again Pein?

Yellow Flash 2: For the avatar, what I did was if you move the cursor over Bob Uchiha’s avatar, it’ll link you to the gravatar site. Then, Login in with your email. Find an appropriate picture online or from your hard drive, crop it and then make sure you click it afterwards to ensure that it’s your avatar. Then when you make a comment, put the email you used for the avatar in the mail box. Then it should show up if gravatar is working. If you have any trouble, ask Bob or myself.

No, your idea is at least better than this theory that Pein is Naruto’s mom. It’s possible Pein is related to Naruto, he’s a bit old to be his brother, but maybe an uncle or cousin?

Pein has red hair and Kushina is said to have red hair. It is a possibility that they are related. And Kushina is from the Whirlpool country- Water related. Pein is from Amekagure- rain, which is a form of water. Very close there.
Actually, I’ll send you an edited list of deviantartists. Some of the ones there actually don’t have much Naruto. I have to find the ones that do. Also, I have favorite pairings

Oh, man. I don’t even know where to START! Temari and Shikamaru. It’s kinda’ a pre-requisite that Neji and Ten-Ten are an item, but I personally hate the mere existence of Ten-ten. What else? I also have pitty on Sakura and think she’s the best person for Sasuke. I agree, Minato and Kushina were probably around the same age. If Kushina was alive today, she’d be around 30 I think. And Pein looks like he’s mid 20s, that makes Kushina too young to be his mother.

Holy mushrooms! My favorite pairing is ShikaTema- it’s soooo canon. I hate ShikaIno, HATE IT. I don’t mind TenTen, and it is kinda obvious from Shippuuden that NejiTen might be canon as well in the future. And yes, I prefer SasuSaku and NaruHina as well. Karin needs to die. Other people, please don’t flame me- after all it is my opinion.

So is the issue getting the jpg or gif pic for your avatar or something to do with registering with your email?
