Episode 21: Identify Yourself! Powerful New Rivals

The Sand ninja reveal that they are in Konoha for the Chunin Exam. Before they leave, Sasuke asks for the name of the one with the large gourd. He is Gaara of the Desert.
The Hokage asks Asuma, Kakashi and Kurenai to decide whether they want their pupils to enter the Chunin Exam. They all say yes, but Iruka objects to having such young Genin enter the Chunin Exam.
Disguised as a Rain ninja, Iruka tests each of Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke, along with the Genin on Asuma’s and Kurenai’s teams. He is pleasantly surprised by how strong each of them has grown.
On the day for registration, Naruto and his teammates arrive at the academy only to have two shinobi block the way in (it is an unofficial first test by the Examiners). Sasuke confronts them and is about to fight when a speedy Leaf Genin named Rock Lee stops their attacks with his bare hands. Lee has developed a crush on Sakura and wanted to show off, however he is quickly rejected by Sakura because of his strange looks.
