488 - The Villages
With the threat of Akatsuki now more evident than ever, the
five daimyos of the major countries meet via teleconferencing to
confirm the new alliance. Although some countries are reluctant, the
alliance is officially formed.
Meanwhile, Kakashi’s team returns to retrieve Lee, Sai and
Kiba sleeping by the side of the road. Seeing everyone
happily asleep, Naruto decides to lie down for a quick nap as well
since he is still feeling weak from Sakura’s poison. Sakura
can’t help but accept the blame for putting everyone in this state, but
is happy to see Naruto sleeping so peacefully as if a
heavy burden has been removed.
On the road back, the group is cheerful despite
the recent events. Members of Roots who have been trailing Sai confront
the group and confirm that Danzo has indeed died since the
seal placed on them had disappeared. Sai convinces them that
it now time to discuss the future of Roots by talking with the future
Hokage, Kakashi Hatake.
After Naruto returns to Konoha, a meeting takes place with
all the members of the Konoha 11 present. Naruto explains
what happened and reiterates that only he alone will be allowed to
fight Sasuke in the future. Not surprisingly, some are not
satisfied with Naruto’s statement. Shikamaru
questions if this is not just another way for Naruto to try to protect
Sasuke and Neji wonders why they didn’t just finish Sasuke off if he
was so much weakened when they encountered him. But Naruto
doesn’t want to explain himself any further and leaves the group to
find some time alone.
In the meantime, Kakashi has met with the
remaining Konoha elders and reported Danzo’s demise. It is
decided that he will be made Hokage for the time being as Konoha cannot
be part of the alliance of villages without a leader.
However, at the moment a messenger arrives to report that Tsunade has
finally awakened.
At the Akatsuki hideout, the operation to implant Sasuke
with Itachi’s eyes is complete. Madara tells Sasuke that
he’ll need time to recuperate and get used to the new power, but Sasuke
says that he can already feel Itachi’s power flowing into him.
