485 - So Close and Yet So Far
Naruto arrives on the scene to save Sakura, and turns his
head to make eye contact with Sasuke. Kakashi takes the
opportunity to charge towards Sasuke and push him back with a
punch. A dazed Sakura thanks Naruto for saving her.
Naruto tries to tell Sasuke that he just tried to kill a former
teammate, but Kakashi reminds him that this is a completely new
Sasuke.
Even so, Naruto attempts to get through to Sasuke by telling
him that after hearing about what happened to Itachi and his clan from
Tobi, he can understand why he did what he did. But Sasuke
doesn’t want to hear it because he believes an outsider like Naruto
would never understand why. Sasuke reveals that he had just
killed Danzo and it felt great, as if he was cleansing the Uchiha name
by spilling his opponent’s blood. He adds that since Konoha
has been rejecting his clan for generations, he will help wipe the
Uchiha from their memories by killing everyone in the Leaf village --
this is how he will purify his clan‘s name.
Kakashi understands that Sasuke was a victim of a
dark era in Konoha’s history but knows he still must deal
with him himself. Not wanting his students to see what he
must do, he orders them to leave the scene. Naruto demands to
know if Kakashi is planning on killing Sasuke, but Kakashi
only repeats his order to them. Naruto decides to take action
and uses a clone to hold Kakashi back while he charges forward towards
Sasuke with a Rasengan. Sasuke sees an opportunity and
counter charges with his Chidori. As they are about to clash,
Naruto ponders how easily the two of them could have stood in each
other’s shoes if things had turned out differently.
An explosion results from the impact and in that instant,
Naruto meets Sasuke face to face in a white space. Naruto
recalls how he felt the same rage and hate inside himself when he was
growing up and could have ended up like Sasuke in just one
misstep. He tells Sasuke that he was jealous of him when they
first met but really looked up to Sasuke and wanted to befriend someone
like himself. Sasuke replies that it is too late for this words because
he has made up his mind to kill every last person in Konoha.
He offers Naruto two choices: either kill him and become a hero or die
and become another of his victims. Naruto stares confidently
at Sasuke and replies that won’t allow either of those choices to occur.
