CHAPTER 409 - The Ancient Lore of Myouboku Mountain
Naruto and Fukasaku prepare to set off to Myouboku Mountain to begin training.  Sakura, Tsunade and Shikamaru see them off.  Fukasaku tells Tsunade he will leave a transmission frog behind so they can stay in touch.  Tsunade replies that she will send information if they uncover anything new about Jiraiya’s clues.

Naruto is ready to get going, but then remember he has no idea how to get to Myouboku Mountain.  Fukasaku says it would take about a month of travel by foot and one will never make it there if he doesn’t know the secret paths.  But Fukasaku tells Naruto not to worry because he has already signed the contract with the toads.  He summons a large scroll with many names inscribe upon it - next the Naruto’s name is his father, Minato’s signature, and beside him is Jiraya’s.  Naruto is a bit confused about what Fukasaku means, but before he can say anymore he disappears in a puff of smoke. Tsunade tells Sakura and Shikamaru not to worry, it was only reverse summoning.  Fukasaku bids farewell and then disappears as well.

In the Rain village, Pein gathers Konan and his five other bodies as he calls forth a heavy downpour.  He tells everyone that their target is the Nine-tails and to kill any shinobi who gets in their way.

Naruto and Fuakasu arrive at Myouboku Mountain in an instant thanks to the reverse summoning jutsu.  He is amazed by the lush landscape that is covered in large plants and giant worm-like buildings jutting from the ground.  Gamakichi, who has grown into a huge toad since he was last seen, informs Naruto that he was the one who helped summoned Naruto here.  Fukasaku tells Naruto he should come to his home and eat up first before they start training.  Later, Ma Toad has prepared Naruto a grand feast of dishes made up of various worms, bugs and other unidentifiable creatures.

Some time later, Naruto arrives at a remote area with Fukasaku and Gamakichi.  After forcing himself to eat Ma Toad’s cooking, Naruto isn’t feeling too hot.  Fukasaku tells him he doesn’t have time to puke because they need to get to training right away.  He explains to Naruto about a different type of ninjutsu called Senjutsu or the Hermit Arts.  Unlike regular ninjutsu which combines a person’s spiritual energy and physical stamina to form chakra to use in techniques, senjutsu augments that internal chakra with energy absorbed from nature - creating a much more powerful form of chakra that can seriously power-up a shinobi’s skills and abilities.

Naruto is having difficulty grasping Fukaksaku’s explanation.  Gamakichi tells Naruto it’s like when you add mint to a chocolate-vanilla swirl ice cream cone to make it even more delicious.  Fukasaku tells Gamakichi to stop with the weird explanations, but to his surprise it seems to help Naruto understand.  When Naruto asks where this nature energy is supposed to come from, Fukasaku explains that it’s all around them in both the air and the ground.  To demonstrate, Fukasaku begins to gather a huge amount of natural energy, but Naruto cannot see it.  Fukasaku then walks to a massive stone statue of a meditating frog and lifts it with his bare hands.  Naruto is astounded that the old toad can do something like this after only making a small hand seal.

Fukasaku puts down the statue with a loud thud, causing Naruto to lose his balance.  The effort has exhausted him, likely because of his old age.  He explains to Naruto that the reason he couldn’t see the gathering of nature energy is because he can’t sense the flow of mother nature yet.  Unfortunately, that means Naruto can’t collect nature energy either in his current state. He tells Naruto that he must first become one with the earth.  Naruto is confused, but Gamakichi clarifies it for him - Naruto must die.
