CHAPTER
404 - Hawk and Akatsuki
0textembed
The first scene takes place at an undisclosed location which
may possibly be the Hidden Mist village. Madara appears
beside Kisame to speak with him. He tells Kisame that he is the last Akatsuki member to know, and then
removes his mask to reveal his face. Kisame is speechless for
a second, but then chuckles and says that he would never have guessed
that this was Tobi’s true identity. He appears to
recognize Tobi’s face as Madara’s, but then also
refers to him as Mizukage-sama (Mizukage is the leader of the Hidden
Village in the Mist). Kisame comments that he feels more
relieved now that he knows Madara is the one in control.
Madara tells Kisame that he is counting on him.
In Konoha, Naruto is
soundly sleeping in his room when a knock on his window by Kakashi
wakes him up. Kakashi tells Naruto that Tsunade has requested
to see him. As they arrive at the Hokage’s office,
Naruto finds Gamabunta and his son Gamakichi sitting quietly
outside. When Naruto asks if something had happened,
Gamakichi tries to answer but his father tells him to let Tsunade tell
Naruto the news. Naruto asks Kakashi what the matter is, but
even he refuses to say anything more until they reach
Tsunade’s office.
As Naruto enters the
office, he is greeted by the
sight of a small gathering of his teammates and Jiraiya’s
toad companions. Pa toad and the scroll toad ( chapter ? )
are both present. Pa toad speaks first and asks if Naruto is
Jiraiya’s pupil. Tsunade confirms it and says that
Naruto may be the “destined child.”
Naruto is confused and asks why there is an old frog here.
Tsunade warns Naruto to be more respectful because the toad he is
addressing is Fukasaku, one of the great head hermits of
Myouboku Mountain. Fukasaku asks Naruto directly if he is
Jiraiya-chan’s pupil. But Naruto gets angry that a
wrinkly old toad is addressing his sensei as Jiraiya-chan
(‘chan’ is usually used to address children and
pets). Tsunade again warns Naruto to watch his mouth and
tells him that Fukasaku is someone who taught Jiraiya his hermit-style
ninjutsu. Fortunately, Fukasaku is not offended and even
finds Naruto’s attitude amusing because it reminds him of a
young Jiraiya. Naruto asks the toad to get the point, so
Fukasaku does. He tells Naruto that Jiraiya was killed in
battle.
Inside an odd structure
made entirely from bone,
the members of the newly renamed Team Hawk meets with Madara and
Kisame. Madara questions if Sasuke has a plan to carry out
his goal to destroy the Leaf. Sasuke’s plan is
simple - he wants to take out Konoha’s leaders.
Kisame points out that when you strike at the top, they will usually
shield themselves with the bottom. He tells Sasuke that his
team is still too inexperienced to take on a mission of this
scale. Suigetsu rudely tells Kisame to not
underestimate
them, and reminds him that they haven’t finished their little
‘game’ yet. In a split second, Suigetsu
draws his sword and charges furiously at Kisame. However,
Madara intercepts his blade instantly and shocks Suigetsu by blocking
it with only his arm. He asks Sasuke to rein in his
subordinates. Karin yells at Suigetsu to quit acting crazy,
but Suigetsu responds that he is only on the team in
order to obtain
Kisame’s sword, the Samehada. Sasuke tells Suigetsu
to back off because he can’t beat Kisame yet
anyways. Suigetsu begrudgingly obeys.
Madara informs
everybody that Akatsuki is
currently lacking in members with skill. He suggests that
since Hawk and Akatsuki share the same goals, they should work together
to achieve them. Sasuke asks what the advantage for them
is. Madara responds that the incentive is the Tailed
Beasts. Sasuke wants to know what exactly the Tailed Beasts
are. Madara explains that the simplest explanation is that
they are monsters made from chakra. The First Hokage,
Hashirama Senju, once had a number of them under his control.
But in order to maintain peace with the other countries, he shared them
with other villages in order to balance the power. In the
end, the Tailed Beasts are the ultimate chakra weapons, and Madara is
offering their power to Team Hawk as a reward. But he warns
Sasuke that if he betrays Akatsuki, then he will personally see to it
that they all die. Kisame comments that out of the nine
beasts, Akatsuki has already gathered up to the
Seven-Tails.
Of the remaining two, Madara gives Team Hawk the task of capturing the
Eight-Tails. He tells Sasuke that Akatsuki themselves will
take care of Naruto, the host to the Nine-Tails.
At a quiet location by a river, Madara and Zetsu
meet secretly. Madara informs Zetsu that things went
smoothly. He adds that since Itachi is now dead, Konoha is no longer
off limits to them. Zetsu comments that it has taken a long
time for their plan to come to fruition, but Madara responds that it
was necessary. Even still, Zetsu says he can’t
believe how many Akatsuki members have died for their cause.
Madara states that everyone had joined of their free will and without
their sacrifices, they would not have come to this point in their
plan. However, Madara emphasizes that the most important
result is that Sasuke has finally come under his control.
