MenuCHAPTER 401 - Illusion
Sasuke tells Madara that what he is saying about Itachi
makes no sense; it was Itachi who almost killed him and tried to steal
his eyes. Madara responds by saying that if Itachi was truly
serious about killing him, Sasuke would have been long dead
already. Itachi had a good reason to push Sasuke to the edge
in their final battle. It was all to force the part of
Orochimaru which still resided inside Sasuke to finally show itself and
allow Itachi to seal him away. It was the only way that
Itachi could be sure he can permanently remove Orochimaru’s
tainted cursed seal from Sasuke. Itachi had planned
everything out beforehand and his attempt to steal Sasuke’s
eyes was all an act.
Sasuke still refuses to believe Madara’s
words. He tells him that Itachi had already told him that it
was he, Madara, who used the Nine-Tails to attack Konoha.
Sasuke accuses Madara of framing the Uchiha clan and both Itachi and
Madara for deceiving everyone. Madara calmly responds
that the real lie is what Sasuke has been fed since the
beginning. Itachi never wanted Sasuke to learn the truth and
lied to him to make sure Sasuke would never trust Madara.
Sasuke becomes more angry and says that he refuses to believe any of
this because it was Itachi who slaughtered the Uchiha clan and it was
Itachi who betrayed Konoha to join Akatsuki.
Madara tells him that Itachi only join Akatsuki in order to
protect the village from inside the criminal organization.
All of his actions were done for the greater good of the village and to
protect Sasuke. When the Third Hokage died, Itachi
immediately returned to Konoha because he feared for Sasuke’s
safety. It was his way to make sure the other councillors
still knew that he was still alive and very much capable of carrying
out his threats if they touched Sasuke. Sasuke screams at
Madara to stop telling him
these lies. The only proof Madara can offer is that Sasuke is
still alive due to Itachi’s actions. This last statement seems to allow everything to finally sink in for Sasuke. He remembers back to the battle with Itachi and realizes the importance of Itachi’s words when said that reality is only a vague concept defined by what a person accepts as “true” or “correct.” When Itachi asked him how clearly his Sharingans can see now, Sasuke had
replied that his eyes can see through all of Itachi’s
genjutsu’s. Madara tells Sasuke that he, in
reality, had failed to see through Itachi’s illusion and
simply accepted everything he was told.
Madara walks over and cuts through the rope
binding Sasuke. He states that Itachi killed his own emotions
in order to exterminate his own clan to save his village. He
murdered everyone, family and friends, with his own hands; everyone
except his little brother. To him, Sasuke was more important
than even the village. Even after his death, Itachi was still
trying to give Sasuke
more power to ensure his little brother will
survive. Itachi wanted Sasuke to defeat him so he can be
turned into a hero in the eyes of the Leaf village as the person who
finally took revenge for the Uchiha clan. Even though a
disease was ravaging his body, Itachi took all kinds of dangerous
medicine in order to keep himself alive - all in order to at least be
able to fight Sasuke in one final battle
and to die at the feet of his
little brother. The candle in the cave blows out.
