MenuCHAPTER 398 - The Leaf's Origins Madara asks Sasuke whether he understands why Itachi transplanted the Amaterasu into his eyes. When Sasuke doesn’t respond, he tells him it’s because the last thing Itachi wanted is for Sasuke to fall into his (Madara’s) hands.
Madara begins to begin to reveal more about the secret life
of Itachi Uchiha and he claims that the only Leaf villagers who knew
the “truth” about Itachi were the Third Hokage, his
councilors and previous teammates, Homura and Koharu, and the leader of
Roots, Danzou. Since the Third is dead, there are only three
left but Madara doubts that any of them will ever speak a word about
what they know.
However, this was just the way Itachi wanted it –
to carry his secret to the grave. But Itachi died without
realizing the extent to which Madara had already learned about
him. Itachi clearly did not trust Madara and even set up a
trap to finish him off by implanting the Amaterasu into
Sasuke. Itachi accounted for the possibility that Madara
would approach Sasuke after his death and predicted that he would try
to gain Sasuke’s trust by revealing
his Sharingan. And so he chose the latter event as the
trigger for Sasuke’s Amaterasu to activate. But at this point, Sasuke seems to have stopped listening and begins talking to himself. His eyes glaze over as if he was in a trance. He refuses to believe what Madara has been saying, especially about Itachi protecting him. Madara
tells Sasuke to slowly think back and recall the loving and caring
brother he had. Sasuke’s breathing becomes erratic
and he begins sweating more and more. His mind refuses to
believe that the man who tried to steal his eyes was trying to protect
him this whole time. Madara clutches Sasuke’s face
and tells him to get a hold of himself. Sasuke pushes him
away but quickly starts losing consciousness. The last thing
he sees before he faints are images of his brother from the past and
present.
When Sasuke reawakens, Madara has taken the liberty of tying
him up to make Sasuke stays put and listens to him. Sasuke
tells him that Itachi killed his mother, his father, and everyone in
the Uchiha clan. Madara says Sasuke has a reason to hate
Itachi because the events of that night were all real.
However, Madara adds that the whole massacre was done under orders
given to Itachi by the top leaders of Konoha. That is where
the truth
about Itachi Uchiha begins. Now that he has gained Sasuke’s interest, Madara explains that to make sense of why these events happened, they must first look back at the founding of Konoha. Simply put, Itachi was just the latest sacrifice in a long line of shinobis. This cause of this tragic problem dates back to the very beginnings of the Hidden Leaf village.
At this point Sasuke tells Madara that he does not trust him
or his words one bit. Madara responds that he has no proof to
offer but tells Sasuke that he has no choice but to listen. The story begins over eighty years ago. It was an era of relentless violence and bloodshed. Countries competed for land and constantly waged war over it. Back then the individual shinobi clans did not owe
loyalty to any single country, but were essentially mercenaries for
hire to the highest bidder. But amongst the many clans, only
two stood out as truly the strongest: the Uchiha clan and the Senju
clan of the Forest. The Uchias were naturally talented ninjas
with their chakra and Sharingan powers. Madara was born with
the strongest chakra in the clan’s history and he devoted his
life to obtaining more power. Madara exhausted all his
resources to become more powerful, even his own brother, and eventually
obtained an eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.
