MenuCHAPTER 385 - The Secret of the Mangekyou 
Sasuke’s sword runs through Itachi’s
chest from behind the stone throne. In that instant, Sasuke
remembers those cryptic words which Itachi spoke to him on the night he
slaughtered the entire Uchiha clan. Itachi had told Sasuke to
go to the secret meeting place of the Uchihas and learn the true
purpose of the clan’s eye technique. Itachi also
revealed that if Sasuke can obtain the Mangekyou Sharingan, then there
will be three people who can use it. He added that only then
will his sparing of Sasuke’s life have meaning.
Those memories fill Sasuke with hatred.
He grinds his teeth and commands Itachi to answer his
question. Itachi comments that Sasuke avoided delivering a
fatal blow to him on purpose. Sasuke asks his brother for the
identity of the third surviving Uchiha, the other Sharingan user who
can use the Mangekyou. Itachi ponders for a second and asks
Sasuke why he wants to know about that person. Sasuke replies
that that person is who he will kill next after he finishes off
Itachi. Itachi
scoffs at the idea that Sasuke can actually
kill the third Uchiha survivor. Sasuke reasons that the third
person must have been someone who Itachi didn’t kill, and
that can only mean he must’ve helped wipe out the rest of the
clan. Even with his skills at the time, there was no way
Itachi could have destroyed the entire Uchiha military police force on
his own. Itachi comments that Sasuke has finally figured it
out and rewards him by revealing the name of the third person: Madara
Uchiha.
The name of Madara brings back to Sasuke the
words of Kyuubi when he confronted the beast inside Naruto’s
consciousness. Kyuubi had said that Sasuke has eyes
and
chakra more sinister than his own… just like Madara
Uchiha. Itachi tells Sasuke that Madara was one of the
founding fathers of Konoha and the first person to awaken the Mangekyou
Sharingan. Sasuke refuses to believe Itachi because that
would mean Madara is hundreds of years old. Itachi tells
Sasuke that Madara is alive but says he can’t force Sasuke to
believe that. He tells Sasuke that what people believe to be
“reality” is bound by what they accept as truth.
But this “reality” may be all an illusion, and the
person is simply living in a world shaped only by his own
beliefs. Itachi explains to Sasuke that similar to how he
simply decided Madara must be dead, he also believed that Itachi was a
kind and caring brother. Sasuke tells Itachi that because he was so
young when the massacre happened, he only wanted to believe that it was
all a nightmare - a creation of someone’s cruel
genjutsu. But in the end it was all reality.
Sasuke turns around and shoots a Chidori blade to
strike at another Itachi behind him. Sasuke tells Itachi that
his eyes are wide open now and that he can see through all of his
genjutsu. The Itachi and the throne Sasuke had struck earlier
was another genjutsu, the real Itachi had been seated behind him the
whole time. The Chidori blade missed Itachi’s head
by inches, but he did not flinch. Itachi laughs coldly and
says that
Sasuke is repeating what he did during their last
confrontation by getting angry and shouting threats, but this time he
admits that Sasuke’s threats are not just mere words anymore.
Sasuke dispels the illusion, retracts his Chidori blade and
asks Itachi
if he is ready to stop fooling around now. Itachi comments that he has
noticed that Sasuke does not have the same eyes as himself.
Sasuke taunts Itachi to try to kill him with the Mangekyou Sharingan or
 is
he too afraid that his little brother has grown too strong for
him. Itachi tells Sasuke not to be so confident and rises
from his seat.From under concealment, Zetsu has witnessed the whole fight. However, the two Uchiha brothers have not moved an inch and are now purely fighting with genjutsu. Itachi tells Sasuke that the Mangekyou 
Sharingan has the characteristic of
slowly turning the user blind from the day it is awakened.
The more it is used the faster this process advances until one day the
Kaleidoscope (Mangekyou = Kaleidoscope) will completely lose its
light. Sasuke states that blindness must be the price for
gaining control of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox. Itachi steps
down the stairs and compliments Sasuke on actually listening to his
instructions and reading the Uchiha tablets in the secret room those
years ago.
Sasuke asks Itachi to tell him who Madara
is. Itachi activates his Mangekyou Sharingan and says that
Madara is a man who tamed Kyuubi and controlled it like a
pet. He is also Itachi’s teacher and
accomplice. Madara is an invincible immortal, and the only
