MenuCHAPTER 381 - His True Identity 
Jiraiya lets out a small cry in agony as a black
elongated object pierces through his right wrist and into his
right shoulder. The person responsible for the attack is the
body of Pein who specializes in summonings. However, although
he managed to injure Jiraiya, his own body has been sliced in
half. The blank stare from his Rinnegan eyes indicates he is
already dead. Jiraiya had managed to use
a barrier trap to
finally defeat one of Pein’s bodies. Right now he
is in his own dimension - an underground watery cavern; it is a
sanctuary that others cannot enter. The body of Pein he had
just killed charged straight at Jiraiya when he erected this barrier,
but Jiraiya must have closed the barrier just as his opponent was
coming through, thereby slicing him in half. Jiraiya attempts to pull
the black object out, but notices that it is disrupting his
chakra. Pa stretches back and pulls the object out for
Jiraiya and throws it aside. Jiraiya comments that not only
do his opponents look weird, they use strange weapons as well.The image of Yahiko’s face comes into Jiraiya’s mind again; there is no doubt in his mind that one of the new bodies of Pein he  saw was
Yahiko‘s. Yet
he still can’t understand how Yahiko obtained the Rinnegan -
did he steal it from Nagato? But how did everyone else on
Pein’s team obtain the Rinnegan as well? Jiraiya remembers
back to a private talk he had with Nagato. He had said to the
young student that knowing how painful it is to be hurt is exactly what
makes people be kind to others. When Nagato asked how he can
be like that too, Jiraiya told him he has to grow up, but added
it’s something Nagato has to figure out on his own.
Jiraiya then remembers Pein’s words about how other
people’s deaths and pain helped him grow up. He
begins to believe that the corpse in front of him must be Pein when
suddenly its head protector slides off revealing a deep scar on its
forehead.Jiraiya immediately recalls that he has met this person before and confirm that he can’t be Nagato. Jiraiya had fought this man when he was on his journey around the world following the prophecy given by the Toad  Sage. Right after he
set out, a shinobi from the Fuuma clan attempted to ambush him, but
Jiraiya beat him and left a deep scar on his forehead. Pa
toad comments that the more they learn about Pein, the less they
understand. Jiraiya recalls the Toad
Sage’s
prophecy again, and is determined that he must go out and face Pein
again in order to find out his true identity. Because he
knows his chances of survival are low, Jiraiya asks Ma and Pa toad to
return home and let him go alone. The toads strongly oppose
that idea. Pa tells Jiraiya to escape now before the other
Pein bodies figure out what has happened. Jiraiya recognizes
the risks but says that he can’t miss out this chance to find
out Pein’s identity because he probably won’t have
another chance like this again. Above all, Jiraiya believes
this is all part of the prophecy and that now is the time for him to  make his difficult decision. He asks
the toads to take the
corpse back to Tsunade to examine, but Pa says that Ma alone is enough
to do that and insists on sticking by Jiraiya. Ma tells Pa to
come back before dinner to which Pa replies that she can count on it. From a gourd shaped toad deep underwater, Jiraiya and Pa exit the barrier and sneak to the surface. They get behind the body of Pein with spikes on its head and attempt to decapitate him with a large shuriken. Their target ducks out of the way and immediately, all the other Pein bodies are alerted to Jiraiya’s location. As they surround him on all sides, Jiraiya takes a closer look at each of their faces and confirms that they are all shinobi he has met before.
