CHAPTER 379 - Jiraiya's Decision

Jiraiya Kick!    After trapping the other two members of Pein’s team, Jiraiya is finally able to face the remaining member one-on-one.  Pein forms another hand seal to attempt to summon something else, but Jiraiya has already leapt up towards him and delivers a powerful kick to his chest area, sending him ricocheting off the wall.

toad genjutsu    At that moment, the toads’ genjutsu  song is complete and they unleash their melody into Pein’s ears.  The effect is instantaneous as Pein suddenly discovers himself and his two teammates trapped in a transparent cube of water.  Holding them in place are four giant armored toad warriors who point their palms toward the cube to keep it suspended in mid-air.  Jiraiya you chose the wrong pathappears in this illusionary world and informs Pein that this genjutsu paralyzes the nerves of the brain so all three of Pein’s bodies cannot move even an inch.  Pein replies that he never thought Jiraiya could be capable of such a powerful jutsu, to which Jiriaya reminds him that one can never overestimate an opponent enough - something he had taughtgoodbye Nagato long ago.  Jiraiya then tells Pein that he has walked down the wrong path.  When Jiraiya heard young Nagato saythat he was going to protect his friends no matter the pain he has to endure, he  thought Nagato would rise above and conquer that pain, not use it to bring chaos to the world.  Jiraiya remembers back to the Toad Sage’s prophecy about his destined pupil and admits that, for a while, he believed Nagato would be the one to bring peace to the whole world.  But now it is too late, and Jiraiya bids his farewell.

underestimated    In the real world outside the genjutsu, Jiraiya plunges three large swords into the chests of Pein and his two teammates.  Jiraiya comments that it is finally over, which triggers the toads to let out loud hacking noises to clear their throats.  Ma informs Jiraiya that performing their genjutsu song gives them sore throats and slack jaws, not to mention wrinkles.  Jiraiya apologizes and tells the toads they have plenty of time to rest now.  He begins to saynot good something about finally coming to a decision, but suddenly a voice from behind reminds Jiraiya what he had just said about not underestimating the enemy.

Jiraiya swings around to face the one who had managed to sneak up on him, but it is too late.  In a sudden Jiraiya loses an armexplosion, Jiraiya is sent crashing through the wall to the outside.  Jiraiya manages to land and stay on the water’s surface but he is bleeding profusely - the last encounter cost him his left arm.  Pa asks what had just happened and Jiraiya comments that their new enemies have different faces than the three they had supposedly just killed.  Jiraiya surmises that Pein must have somehow summoned forSix Paths of Pain back-up just before being caught in the genjutsu.

From the other side of the hole in the wall, figures remove the swords from the three “dead” Akatsuki members and a voice informs everyone that “it is time.”  In seconds, six people in Akatsuki clothing leap out from the hole to face Jiraiya; amazingly, the three that were just killed by Jiraiya are standing again.  Among the six is the original body of Pein gasp!who was first introduced.  He tells Jiraiya to prepare to face the “Six Paths of Pain.”

Ma toad is astounded that the three they had killed are now alive again.  Pa wonders if the three new ones somehow had a powerful jutsu to instantly heal their comrades, but Ma insists that there isn’t such a jutsu that can instantly bring someone back from the dead; she questions if their enemies are even human.  Jiraiya asks Pein just who is.  The original Pein informs him that the name Pein is shared by all six of them.  Jiraiya wonders how six people can all have the Rinnegan but then remembers something crucial.
