manga-embed-btm-1

tickle to death    Jiraiya begins his interrogation of one the Rain shinobis.  His victim breaks out in wild laughter as he is tickled underneath the armpit by Jiraiya’s feather.  After a while, Jiraiya stops and admits the Rain ninja has resilience.  He then threatens to turn them into frogs using a secret technique.  Jiraiya’s wording is actually a bad pun joke in Japanese, but when no one laughs he begins tickling again to force out laughter.

The other Rain ninja declares to Jiraiya to not take them lightly because they will never betray their leader. He tells Jiraiya to do his worst, so Jiraiya complies.  Using a jutsu called Frog Metamorphosis, Jiraiya places his hand on the head of the ninja he was tickling and changes him into aFrog transform small frog in a puff of smoke.  He turns his attention to the remaining Rain ninja, who immediately starts telling Jiraiya that he has heard that Pein resides in the tallest tower in the west side.  Jiraiya asks why he doesn’t know for certain, the Rain ninja reveals that most information about Pein isI'll talk shrouded in secrecy.  Some say he is a member of the Fuuma clan, but nobody has ever seen his face and some even doubt his existence. Jiraiya finds it hard to believe since everyone in town seems to revere the name of Pein.  The Rain ninja says that Pein is like a god to them so it doesn’t matter if he is seen or not because Pein always provides them with protection.  Jiraiya asks what Pein former rain ninjahas to gain from hiding from his allies, but his prisoner responds that it becomes useful for situations like the current one.

The Rain ninja does not believe Jiraiya to be a survivor from the former Rain village faction and asks him for his name.  Jiraiya refuses to answer and instead asks for what happened to the former faction.  The Rain ninjaSalamander Hanzou explains that only a while ago, the former faction would constantly try to infiltrate their faction in attempts to assassinate Pein.  But he explains that that has no chance of occurring anymore.  Jiraiya is shocked when it is revealed that the civil war in the Rain village is over and that Pein defeated the old faction single-handedly.  Jiraiya refuses to believe it Jiraiya, Tsunade, Orochimarubecause the former leader of Rain, Hanzou the Salamander, was a powerful icon in the shinobi world.  The Rain ninja agrees that Hanzou was indeed powerful and getting close to him was impossible because he was under guard twenty-four hours a day.

Jiraiya asks what kind of abilities did Pein possess that were able to take down Hanzou, but his prisoner does not know anything like that.  Jiraiya remembers back to the last Great Ninja War where he, Tsunade and Orochimaru were stillSannin of the Leaf part of a Konoha team.  They led a squad of fellow Leaf ninja against Hanzou, but only the three of them survived Hanzou’s attack.  Sitting atop a great salamander, Hanzou looked down on the three battered Konoha shinobi.  He said that he will let them live for surviving his assault, but Jiraiya shouted back that they can still fight and don’t want his pity.  Hanzou respected their strength and declared then for them to refer to themselves as the “Sannin of Konoha.”  This was Hanzou’s condition for sparing their lives.

Pein is ruthless    The Rain ninja says that Pein’s jutsus are not of this world, but his true power lies in his ruthlessness.  Pein is considered to be the ideal shinobi because he does not possess an ounce of mercy in him.  Pein not only defeats his enemies, but wipes them and their supporters from existence.  After Hanzou was killed, Pein also went after his family, parents, relatives and anyone who was perceived to be allies of Hanzou.  Everyone, no matter how young, was mercilessly slaughtered and theirPein's secret room houses were burnt down to ashes. Everything that was relate to Hanzou was erased from existence.

Pein is standing before an empty stretch of wall.  He hovers his hand over the surface and a circular ring begins to extrude.  A second later, the ring expands into a large hole and reveals a secret room behind the wall.  Pein slowly walks in and lies down in a capsule shaped bed.  Inside the chamber are five other bodies stored in similar capsules.  As he shuts his eyes, Pein comments that it’s time to hunt down the intruder.
