MenuCHAPTER 363 - The Death of Sasuke
Both Tobi and Sasuke appear to be helplessly
trapped as the blast wave consumes them. Deidara’s
immense suicide explosion is visible for miles around. All
the members of the Konoha eight-man team are alerted to its
presence. Kakashi recognizes this particular chakra as
belonging to one of the Akatsuki members he had fought.
Naruto’s team witnesses the blast as well and head towards it.The members of Sasuke’s Team Hebi realize immediately that the explosion originated from where Sasuke’s position was supposed to be. Karin tries to track down Sasuke’s chakra signature but fears the worst when she can’t feel it at all. Suigestu takes out a summoning scroll from his belt. The snake symbol marking on it fades out, indicating that the creature had been summoned. At ground zero of the explosion, a gigantic smoking crater is all that remains.
Zetsu was present at the battle and witnessed
Deidara’s suicide attack. He returns, in an astral
projection form, back at a dark cavern where the remaining Akatsuki
members have gathered on the tailed beast sealing statue. He
reports Deidara’s death and that Sasuke was the one
responsible. When he says that Sasuke died in the battle as
well, Itachi remains silent but turns his head away. The
Akatsuki leader tells Itachi to be grateful because Deidara sacrificed
his life to take out one of their burdens. Kisame comments
that he feels like they forgot something when Zetsu adds that Tobi was
caught in the explosion too. Kisame says that
it’s a shame the coward couldn’t run away in
time. The leader responds that anyone can fill
Tobi’s spot but says it’s a pity Deidara had
died. But Kisame remarks that Tobi did have quite an ability
to lighten up the usual dark atmosphere of their
organization. The leader suggests that they pay their
respects to Deidara and then leaves. At a riverside, Suigetsu lays out the summoning scroll and draws an inscription in the center to activate the summoning technique. A large puff of smoke appears which quickly dissipates to reveal the badly burnt body of Manda, Orochimaru’s favorite snake. Suigetsu wonders how Sasuke was able to control Manda when Orochimaru himself had trouble. But when he notices the tomoes of the Sharingan appear in Manda’s eyes, Suigetsu realizes what Sasuke had
done. The Sharingan tomoes disappear and Sasuke appears next
to the giant snake. He is badly hurt and struggles to even
stand. Manda curses at Sasuke because he used the
Sharingan’s genjutsu to control him. But before he
can finish, Manda dies from his injuries. Suigetsu comments
to Sasuke that he should treat animals better than that.
Sasuke replies he had no other choice given the circumstances.
Karin and Jugo arrive on the scene.
Karin was worried when Sasuke’s chakra signature suddenly
vanished but now realizes he must have used a teleportation
jutsu. Suigetsu tells Sasuke that it’s quite
impress how he managed to put himself inside Manda and then used a
space and time ninjutsu to teleport them elsewhere, but he wonders why
Sasuke is so beat up. Sasuke explains that he was fighting a
member of Akatsuki who was stronger than he had anticipated.
Before he could escape, both he and Manda were hit by part of
Deidara’s giant explosion. Karin blushes and thinks
to herself that Sasuke looks sexy even with all the scars and bruises
all over his body. Suigetsu says they need to take a break to
allow Sasuke to recover. Karin argues that Sasuke
shouldn’t be this beaten up since he was the one who defeated
Orochimaru. But Sasuke replies that he only managed to kill
Orochimaru because he was in a weakened state.
At an undisclosed location, the Akatsuki leader
sits upon a statue overlooking a cityscape. His partner, the
unnamed female Akatsuki member, calls to him by his real name,
“Pein”, and informs him that
“he” has arrived. Pein reveals his face
for the first time and is seen wearing the headband of Amegakure
(Hidden Village in the Rain) with a slash through the village symbol to
indicate he is a missing nin. A figure hidden in shadows
informs them that he has witnessed Sasuke’s impressive use of
the Sharingan and believes his eyes may even surpass
Itachi’s. He tells Pein that the time has arrived
and orders him to capture the Kyuubi personally because he will not
tolerate failure.
