MenuCHAPTER 359 - Those Eyes
As Deidara and his clay dragon plummet towards his own
land mines, Sasuke performs hand seals and creates two serpents from
his arms. The snakes extend and grapple onto a nearby tree,
allowing Sasuke to pull himself to safety. Just before the
impact, Deidara manages to use his feet to get a firm hold on the
shurikens pinning his arms down.As the explosion rocks the ground, Tobi yells out to Deidara that he told him he would die in an explosion. Deidara appears out from the smoke riding atop a clay bird and tells Tobi to shut his mouth. In the last second, he was able
to pull off the shurikens pinning his arms and escape, but had to
abandon his Akatsuki cloak. Tobi expresses surprise that Deidara
is still alive. Sasuke, having deactivated his level 2 Cursed
Seal, comments that Deidara just keeps coming for more. Deidara
hovers above Sasuke, two nasty gashes are seen on the arms that had
just previously been reattached. As he stares down into
Sasuke’s Sharigan eyes, Deidara is filled with hate as he recalls the first time he fought Itachi. Some time ago, Deidara was approached by Itachi, Kisame and Sasori to recruit him into Akatsuki. They confronted him in a temple, but Deidara
flatly refused, stating that he is more interested in his art than
anything else. Sasori has his doubts about Deidara and says that
although Deidara has spirit, he will probably die early. Itachi
replies that the leader had given the order because Deidara’s
abilities will be useful to Akatsuki. Kisame tells Deidara that
they know he has been offering his services as an explosives
expert to rebels in the surrounding countries. He asks Deidara
what his purpose is now that he has become a missing nin. Deidara
replies that he has no purpose except to create his explosive
sculptures. He shows them one of his clay spiders and begins to
boast about its detailed workmanship. He talks about how his art
moves and breathes as if it were living. But most of all, Deidara emphasizes that truly beautiful art occurs in the instant of an explosion. No one is impressed by Deidara’s rhetoric. Itachi steps forward and says he will fight him. It is the first time Deidara has encountered the Sharingan, so he is unaware of their great power. Itachi tells Deidara
that he must join Akatsuki if he is defeated. Deidara tells him
not to underestimate his art and forms a clay centipede in his left
hand while he throws his clay spider at Itachi. Itachi ducks out
of the explosion but notices that something has ensnared his leg.
Deidara had sent his centipede below ground, and now it has broken
through the floor boards and wrapped itself around Itachi’s
leg. But before Deidara can trigger the explosion, Itachi tells
him to take a look at himself
first. To Deidara’s shock, he is actually the one who has
been bound by his own centipede. If Itachi had not stopped him,
he would have blown himself up. Deidara is confused as to how he
became trapped in the genjutsu. Kisame tells him he was caught in
Itachi’s illusion the moment he looked into the Sharingan.Standing from the hole caused by the explosion earlier, Itachi stares down at Deidara with his Sharigan eyes. Deidara is captivated by the stunning imagery before him and realizes that this was true art. But then
Deidara catches himself and his awe turns into anger. He refuses
to acknowledge Itachi’s power as art; he refuses to be defeated
by those eyes.Back to the battle at hand, Deidara refuses to be beaten by those same eyes again. He grabs more clay from his pouch and begins to eat it. After swallowing it, he declares that he is about to use his most powerful attack on Sasuke. Deidara tells Tobi to get clear, to which the cowardly Akatsuki member has no problem obeying. Deidara bends forward and begins expelling the swallowed clay. Tobi knows this attack and calls it the C-4 Karura.
