MenuCHAPTER 348 - The Next Person Suigetsu and Sasuke walk
across water towards their next destination. Suigetsu strikes
up a conversation and asks Sasuke why he is seeking
teammates. Sasuke answers that he has a goal to achieve, and
he has a better chance of reaching it with a team supporting him. He
chose Suigetsu because he believed he was a powerful
shinobi. Suigetsu then asks why Sasuke would want to
recruit Karin; she is a loyal subordinate of Orochimaru and has
conducted experiments on Suigetsu so he can’t
stand her.
Sasuke admits that there are other shinobi who would have
been easier
to handle than Karin, but she has a special ability which no one else
has. The two approach a rocky structure in the middle of the water and enter the hidden complex below. As they walk by a series of holding pens, the prisoners on the other side of the bars become excited after recognizing Sasuke by the Uchiha seal on his shirt. Some exclaim that the rumors
must be true and that Sasuke has killed Orochimaru and came to free
them. But others are sceptical because they don’t believe
Orochimaru can be defeated. Further down the corridor,
Sasuke and Suigetsu are met by the person they were seeking, Karin. She
ignores Suigetsu and addresses Sasuke only. Because Orochimaru is not
with him, he surmises the rumors about Orochimaru’s demise
must be true. Suigetsu tells her to bring them to a room
where they can sit down because he is tired from walking.Inside a private room, Sasuke directly asks Karin to join his team because they need her powers. Karin questions Sasuke’s offer, after all, she was put in charge of this installation by Orochimaru. Sasuke tells her Orochimaru is gone and orders Suigetsu to go
release all the prisoners. Karin seems firmly against the
idea and tells Sasuke she has no obligation to go with him.
Sasuke replies that since Karin is so against it, he will just try
someone else. Suigetsu arrives at the
prison pens and informer the prisoners that Sasuke has indeed defeated
Orochimaru. He unlocks the gate, but asks them to do
something once they are free. Suigetsu wants them to spread
the word about Orochimaru defeat, and that Sasuke will be a man who
will bring peace and stability to the world. Karin locks the door to the
room and coyly tells Sasuke that she will go. She removes her
glasses and sits next to Sasuke. Karin nudges closer to him
and says since he insists that much, she will go with him.
Sasuke asks why she changed her mind so quickly. Karin answers that she is getting bored of being
on guard duty all the time. Suigetsu arrives back from his
task, but finds the door locked. Karin ignores him and moves even
closer to Sasuke despite his protests. She suggests to Sasuke
to only take her along and leave Suigetsu behind.
At that moment, Suigetsu uses his sword to cross slash the
door into pieces. Karin immediately dashes to the side and
retrieves her glasses. Suigetsu enters through the broken
doorway; his left arm is enlarged and has grown muscular. He
tells Sasuke they should leave because Karin won’t come, but
Sasuke informs him that she has just agreed. Karin
immediately refutes that claim and insists she is just heading in the same direction. Suigestu replies
that they can travel together for part of the way and tells Karin
they’re going after Jugo next. Karin seems upset
that they will include Jugo in their team, but Suigetsu taunts her by
asking Karin why it concerns her if she is only coming
partway. At another one of Orochimaru’s complexes, a lone man sits in the corner of a jail cell. He has a large ball chain attached to his leg and is muttering to himself. His nonsensical argument with himself is about whether ‘it’ has to be a man or woman. Thanks for reading. Your thoughts on this chapter?
