MenuCHAPTER 336 - Reverse Predicament  Shikamaru has successfully
caught Hidan again in his Shadow Bind. Kakashi and the others
tell him to go and leave Kakuzu to them. Shikamaru forces
Hidan to drop his scythe and leads him at full sprint away from the
others.Kakuzu watches but does not give chase. He tells them  they’re underestimating Hidan by not
sending someone to back up Shikamaru. Kakuzu tells them that
they were correct to attempt to take on with as many men as possible,
but there  is still too much of a gap in terms of battle
experience between them. Looking at their Konoha forehead
protectors, Kakuzu comments that it reminds him of the first Konoha
shinobi he fought with – the First Hokage. Everyone
is shocked because that would mean Kakuzu is hundreds of years
old. When Kakashi asks if he is truly an immortal, Kakuzu
responds that there is no such thing and that he keeps on living by
collecting other people’s hearts before his own stops
beating.  In such a way, he can extend his life
substantially. The total number of hearts he can store is
five. Kakuzu declares that he’ll replace the one
Kakashi destroyed with his own heart. It is then
that the Fire and Wind element masks merge their bodies together into
one. Shikamaru has brought Hidan
to a remote location in a different part of the forest. He
throws kunai with attached wires in every direction to create an
interlacing web surrounding himself and Hidan. Spaced in
equal intervals and dangling from the wires are multitudes of explosive
tags.  However, in taking his time to set up the trap,
Shikamaru has reached his time limit with the Shadow Bind.
Once Hidan is free, he immediately pulls out the collapsible spike
hidden under his cloak and attacks Shikamaru. The sudden
attack  catches him off guard and Hidan manages to
inflict a cut on Shikamaru. Shikamaru falls to the ground and
watches in horror as Hidan licks the blood off his weapon.Immediately, Hidan’s body undergoes the transformation where his skin turns pitch black leaving only ritualistic white  patterns. Hidan impales his own right
hand with his spike and uses his own blood to draw his
ritual’s inscription upon the ground. With the
requirements complete, Hidan wastes no time and tells Shikamaru to die
as he raises his spike to pierce his heart. The monster formed from the merging of the Wind and Fire masks unleashes both Fire and Wind element attacks on Kakashi simultaneously. As explained by Yamato in chapter 333, the Wind element can amplify a Fire element attack if used in conjunction. Kakashi jumps back and attempts to counter the soaring flames with a Water element jutsu called Water Wall. However, the water is immediately evaporated into steam upon contact with the superheated flames. Kakashi realizes he cannot defeat a combined Wind and Fire ninjutsu with a Water ninjutsu alone. To Kakashi’s surprise, Kakuzu suddenly bursts out from the clouds of steam and launches  his
black tendrils into him. Kakuzu whips his tendrils back and
drives Kakashi into the ground beside him and proclaims that his heart
belongs to him now.Shikamaru trembles as Hidan drives his spike through his chest and pierces his own heart. In that moment, he remembers Asuma’s dying words  about
counting him. Shikamaru is silent and then collapses to the
ground. Hidan laughs and calls Shikamaru stupid and that even
his god Jashin is disappointed. He
comments that Kakuzu should be finished as well and turns to head back.However, back at the battle with Kakuzu, all is not well for the Akatsuki member. Kakazu is in position to rip out Kakashi’s heart, but instead of proceeding he clutches his chest as if his own heart had just been pierced. While Kakuzu is in disbelief, Kakashi explains to him that they  had used his blood to trick Hidan when he
performed his ritual. Shikamaru knew Hidan needed blood for
his ritual and so prepared blood capsules ahead of time.
Kakashi found an opportunity to collect Kakuzu’s blood when
he punched a hole through his chest with his first Raikiri.He tells Kakazu that it is them who have underestimated Shikamaru; he is not about to let the information Asuma died to get go to waste. Back in the forest, Shikamaru glares up at Hidan as his back is turned.
