 Shikamaru, Ino and Choji
prepare to set out to
find Hidan and Kakuzu when a loud voice stops them from behind; it is
Tsunade and she wants them to return immediately. Shikamaru
argues that the orders for the Twenty Platoons are still in effect, but
Tsunade tells them she will send another team in their place.
She tells Shikamaru
that he will be assigned to a team of her choosing
when a good plan is made. But Shikamaru will not give in and says  he
already has formed a plan with Ino and Choji.Tsunade becomes angry and tells them its unreasonable to go on this mission especially since they are without a captain now. Shikamaru replies that Asuma will always be with them. And whatever the case, they do not want to just run 
away and do nothing because they will spend the rest of their lives
regretting it. Tsunade tells them to grow up and accept that
death is an acceptable risk that comes with being a shinobi.
From experience, Tsunade knows one must accept and get over the death
of loved ones or there will be no future.
Everyone is silent for a moment. Then
Shikamaru points out that the cigarette he is smoking is a memento of
Asuma. When he is smoking, it feels as if Asuma is near and
protecting them. So until they resolve this battle, the
cigarettes will always be with him and there will not be any
closure to
Asuma’s death. Tsunade remains resolute and
restates that there are only three of them. That is when
Kakashi appears and volunteers to be the temporary leader of Team
10. He convinces Tsunade that Shikamaru and the others will
still find a way to go even if she stops them here. But if he
goes with them, at least he can keep an eye on them. Tsunade
is  reluctant
but in the end agrees with Kakashi’s arguments
and allows them to go. Shikamaru asks Kakashi if
it’s alright for him to leave during Naruto’s
training. Kakashi shows him his bandaged right hand and tells
him his usefulness to Naruto is over; besides Yamato is still with him.In a cavern at an undisclosed location, the Akatsuki members have finished the extraction ritual on the Three-Tails. The leader looks down towards the unconscious Yugito Nii and says they will immediately commence on extracting the Two-Tails.  Inside an interrogation room in Konoha, Ibiki Morino begins questioning the underground agent which Kakuzu had met with during the exchange. When the agent refuses to say anything about Kakuzu, Ibiki responds that he is going to make him spill in more ways than one.  The new Team 10 led by Kakashi has already made good progress through the forest. Shikamaru stops them for a rest in the tree tops and goes over his revised plan since Kakashi is now part of their group. He begins to break their strategy down into  several patterns and asks everyone to memorize it.Back in Konoha, Tsunade discusses Naruto’s training progress with Sakura. From what Kakashi had told her, Naruto is just getting the hang of his new jutsu but will require more time to perfect it. Sakura comments that since Kakashi is leading Team 10, it means that her team would also work well with them, so Team 7 should be sent as reinforcements. Tsunade agrees, but Shizune points out that Naruto’s new jutsu is not fully complete yet. Tsunade orders Sakura to go tell Yamato to help Naruto complete his new jutsu in 24 hours or she’ll send another team in their place.
