MenuCHAPTER 319 - The Source of Determination  Asuma pauses for a moment
with his team on the rooftops. He stares across into the
window of an adjacent apartment and quietly says “somebody
has do to it.” Shikamaru is puzzled because
it’s as if Asuma was speaking to someone else.
The apartment actually belongs to Kurenai Yuhi. She is
working at a table and at that moment sees Asuma with his team across
the window. As Asuma departs for his mission, a mixture of
sadness and worry comes across her face. The second phase of
Naruto’s training has begun. Yamato has manipulated
a tree trunk to span the width of the waterfall so Naruto and ten of
his Shadow Clones can stand upon it while having contact with the falling water. All at once, Naruto and
his clones release their Wind chakra in an attempt to cut the water,
but all that results is a small splash. Naruto yells down to
Kakashi and asks if they should use more clones to attempt
this. Kakashi explains that Naruto needs to release a massive
amount of Wind chakra to break the waterfall, but more clones will also
mean that each will have less chakra. He advises Naruto to
let the Wind charka remain in his body longer after  making it, and work carefully to mould it into
the form he wants. Naruto is worried that in a real combat
situation, he wouldn’t have the luxury of time.
Kakashi replies that it’s okay for training because
once Naruto has learned the proper techniques, his speed will
improve. Kakshi also reminds Naruto that they are much ahead
of schedule. Learning to cut the leaf in half should have
taken many months, but Naruto accomplished in less than a
day. Even Sasuke took several days in order to learn to
elementally recompose  his chakra into lightning when he was learning
the Chidori. Naruto stamps his foot down and tells Kakashi it
is that very Sasuke that he needs to catch up to and
save. Seeing Naruto’s stubborn
determination, Kakashi gives in and whispers something to
Yamato. Yamato grimaces after hearing Kakashi’s
orders and performs the hand seals necessary to vastly widen the width
of the waterfall and also the tree trunk extending across it.
Yamato tries to put up a tough front for Kakashi, but it’s
obvious it drained a lot out of him. But at least Naruto is
happy as he begins to perform his Mass Shadow Clones jutsu.As night arrives, Sakura in seen resting in her room. While sitting on her bed, she stares intently into a photograph of the  group picture of Team Kakashi taken when it was
first formed. There is only silence as Sakura begins to cry
and a single tear falls from her face. At that moment, Naruto
is lying in his bedroll looking up at the night sky. He spots
a shooting star and shuts his eyes to make a wish while thinking about
Sasuke, Sakura and Kakashi. After a moment,
Naruto uncovers himself and gets out of bed to continue his
training. Naruto apparently worked throughout the night, as a
result all of his Shadow Clones are nearly exhausted by
morning. But the results are evident when they finally manage
to sever the enormous wall of water with their combined release of Wind
chakra. Yamato is impressed by just how effective this
training method is, but Kakashi believes it is not the only reason.
Naruto’s determination to save Sasuke is what drives him
forward.
