MenuCHAPTER 311 - Nicknames  Inside the Konoha library,
Sai is reading by
himself. He has gathered all sorts of books on developing
relationships and communication skills to study about
friendship. One of the books suggests that assigning
nicknames is a good way of developing closer relations with
people. A short distance away, Sakura is picking out a book
on the effects of medical drugs when she notices Sai sitting
nearby. She comes over to greet him and is pleasantly
surprised by how much effort Sai is putting into developing his
interpersonal skills. She asks Sai to come with her and
Naruto to visit Kakashi in the hospital. Sai is a bit
nervous, but is persuaded to come along. In another part of town, Naruto sits by a stairway and reflects on what  Sasuke had said during their last
encounter. He replays the part where Sasuke states he is
willing to give his life to Orchochimaru in order to attain his
goal. It is hard for Naruto to believe just how far Sasuke is
willing to go to kill his brother. His thoughts are
interrupted when he hears Sakura calling his name. Seeing Sai
with Sakura makes Naruto jealous and he  complains that he was planning
for Sakura and himself to go together like on a date. Sakura
tells Naruto that if he has time to do that, then he should go and
study instead. Sakura and Naruto’s conversation go
on, but Sai feels left out standing on the side quietly. Very
formally, he asks if he can join in on the conversation as
well. When the two stare at him curiously, Sai explains that
he was just applying what was suggested in his books. Sai  asks for Naruto and Sakura’s help
because he can’t
come up with any good nicknames for them. Naruto tells him
not to think about it because nicknames should just come
naturally. Sakura adds that a nickname can be based on
someone’s characteristics. She explains that
Naruto, for instance, can be “Stupid Naruto” or
“Idiot Naruto.” Sai thanks Sakura for
helping him understand and gives her the nickname “Ugly
Dog.” Naruto quickly warns Sai that he is overdoing
it, but Sai doesn’t understand what he did wrong.
It is too late anyways as Sakura unleashes the fury of Inner Sakura. Later, the three arrive to
see Kakashi at the
hospital. Kakashi greets Sai, but calls Sakura over and asks
if Naruto and Sai have been fighting because they have bruises on their
faces. Sakura quickly laughs it off and reassures Kakashi
that they are good friends. Naruto begins to tell Kakashi
what happened on their last mission, but Kakashi explains that Yamato
has already told him everything, including Sasuke. Naruto
continues and reports that Sasuke has become way too strong for
them. Kakashi calmly responds that if this is the case, then
they simply
need to become stronger. Sakura
asserts that the speed at
which Sasuke became this way is not
normal. Tsunade has
suggested that Orochimaru has been using forbidden jutsus or
even drugs
during Sasuke’s training. Sakura has been
researching the subject, but such forbidden techniques won’t
be found in any books in the library. Once again,
Kakashi’s answer is simple, just become stronger at a faster
rate than Sasuke. He tells everyone that he has spent a lot
of time thinking about their situation while hospitalized. He
has come up with a method of training to become stronger very quickly,
but adds that it is something only Naruto is capable of.
However, if this training succeeds, it is possible for Naruto to even
surpass himself.
