MenuCHAPTER 305 - The Bonds Between You and...  Naruto and Sai immediately
leap back at the sight of Orochimaru. They narrowly evade the
twin snakes Orochimaru thrust at them using a jutsu called Hidden
Shadow Hand of Snakes (Senei Jashu). Naruto instructs Sai to
leave Orochimaru to him and go find Sasuke. Sai is hesitant
but agrees upon Naruto’s insistence. Orochimaru
tells Naruto that although he admires his conviction,
things are not going to turn out as well as he wants. In
another part of the lair, Sakura and Yamato are still searching through
empty rooms when Yamato suddenly senses a change in Naruto’s
chakra. He and Sakura immediately head towards his location. After separating from
Naruto, Sai takes out his scroll and begins drawing a series of mice on
it. Then using his Imaginary Beast Imitation jutsu, he brings
them to life as ink creatures and has them scatter in every direction
throughout the lair.Naruto was in no condition to fight Orochimaru and is exhausted after his shadow clones were all defeated. Fortunately, Yamato and Sakura arrive in time to back him up. Not wanting to waste anymore time here,  Orochimaru leaves to find Sai and settle some
unfinished business with him. Before vanishing, he taunts
Naruto by asking him to kill at least one more Akatsuki member for him.
Sakura breathes a sigh of relief when Orochimaru
leaves. Naruto tells Yamato they need to find Sai before
Orochimaru locates him. Although it will use the remaining of his
chakra, time is of the essence so Naruto suggests using his mass shadow
clones technique to search for Sai faster. Sakura’s
attention is drawn to the picture book that Sai had left behind in his
haste. Naruto tells her about the center page and that Sai had smiled straight from his heart
for the first time. Yamato, however, notices something
familiar inside Sai’s bag. He pulls out the small
black book that holds Sai’s secret orders for this
mission. He tells Naruto and Sakura that the black book is
normally used by members of  ANBU
to list assassination targets. Inside’s
Sai’s book are a number of profiles of shinobi from other
villages, Yamato recognizes some of them as being hardliners against
relations with Konoha. All of the profiles have been crossed
out except for the newest entry, Sasuke. Yamato suspects that
Sai’s mission was not to establish communications between
Danzou and Orochimaru at all; it was only a ruse so Sai can get close
enough to Sasuke to assassinate him. Danzou had not betrayed
Konoha after all, but had been trying to protect it in his own
militaristic way. The elimination of Sasuke will thwart
Orochimaru’s plans because it removes his future host body
from him. Naruto refuses to believe Sai is planning to murder
Sasuke after what he had said earlier about the bonds between brothers
and genuinely smiling for the first time.
But Sakura reminds him that Sai had also once said that smiles are the
best way to deceive people because everyone takes it as face
value. In any case, they agree that they must locate Sai
right away. Using the mice, Sai was
able to locate Sasuke’s room. He carefully inches
the door ajar and slips in three of his ink snakes. As they
reach striking distance, Sasuke becomes aware and asks who it
is. Since he already has the upper hand in this situation,
Sai reveals himself. He tells Sasuke that although he had
originally been sent to kill him, he will go against orders and take
him back to Konoha for Naruto’s sake. Sai declares
that he wants to protect the bonds between them that Naruto so strongly
clings to.
