Yamato’s clone witnesses Sai’s betrayal and trails
after them. Back at the Tenchi Bridge, the real Yamato is
informed of the new development from his clone and tells the
others. They hurry across to Sai’s last position.Naruto looks around at the devastated landscape but does not realize that it 
was him who was behind it all. This confirms what Jiraiya had
said about Naruto losing all control of himself after the fourth tail
transformation. Naruto asks how he became unconscious during the
battle. Sakura is silent at first because she is hesitant to tell
Naruto the truth. She lies to Naruto and tells him that
Orochimaru had knocked him out. They notice Sai’s equipment scattered all around the ground. Yamato informs Naruto and Sakura that Sai left with Orochimaru after a short discussion between the two. At the moment, his clone is tracking them and communicating back through a transmitter Yamato had implanted. Sakura 
suggests that Sai might have been taken by force, but Yamato explains
that Sai approached Orochimaru on his own and seemed like he wanted to
gain Orochimaru’s favor. Naruto protests that even though
Sai’s a jerk, he wouldn’t go as far as betray his own
village. But Sakura comments  that
it might just be possible. She recalls Tsunade’s
conversation about Sai’s superior, Danzou, and his feud with the
Third Hokage and Tsunade herself. Sakura asks Yamato for more
information on Danzou, Yamato
speculates that it’s a possibility that Danzou is using Sai to
set his own plan in motion. Tsunade is a student of the Third
Hokage, whom Danzou had competed with for the Hokage position long
ago. Danzou may want to remove Tsunade from power and take over
as Hokage himself. In order to do so, he might go as far as
collaborate with Orochimaru. After his failed attempt to destroy
Konoha last time, Orochimaru may be in a better position to be
bargained with. If Orochimaru does manage to cripple Konoha,
Danzou will be there to rebuild it from the ashes with himself in the
Hokage’s seat. Sai’s mission is likely to act as a
liaison between Danzou and Orochimaru. As Kabuto, Orochimaru and Sai race through the forest, Kabuto comes to realize that they are being followed. He still questions Sai’s intentions and wonders if it is Sai who is letting someone track them. Orochimaru already knows the situation and tells Kabuto that whatever the reason, they’ll end up with a corpse on their hands.  Yamato informs Naruto and Sakura that it may become necessary to dispose of Sai. But first they need to get on their trail quickly. Naruto tries to get energetic for their new task ahead, but his body gives out and he collapses to the ground. Sakura  hurries
to his side and realizes Naruto hasn’t fully recovered from his
injuries yet. She asks Yamato to allow them to rest, but instead
Yamato orders her to leave Naruto behind. Sakura argues that
Kakashi would never have left anybody behind. Yamato tells her
that although he respects Kakashi, they operate differently. Both
Sakura and Naruto are no longer apprentice ninja and need to be strong
on their own. If they let Orochimaru slip away this time, there
won’t be a second chance like this again.Yamato’s clone is in hot pursuit of Orochimaru’s group through the forest. Suddenly, he comes upon Sai’s body hung by the neck from a tree.
