CHAPTER 290 - The Conclusion of Betrayal

Kabuto    Yamato wants to squeeze more information out of Kabuto, but he turns the subject to tasks Sasori had asked him to perform while inside Orochimaru’s organization.  On the far side of the bridge, Naruto becomes more impatient because he can’t understand why Yamato doesn’t just capture Kabuto already.  Sakura explains that they need to handle the situation very carefully because if Orochimaru interuptsKabuto manages to escape, there won’t be a second chance to capture him.  But Sai also adds that the longer Yamato talks, the greater the chance he ends up arousing suspicion and blowing his cover.

On the bridge, Kabuto gets anxious about prolonging their meeting any longer and asks the disguised Yamato for an item Sasori had promised him.  Yamato, knowing he can’t delay things any longer, pulls out a kunai from under his cloak in preparation to subdue Kabuto.  However, before he could act, OrochimaruKabuto's mystic palm suddenly appears behind Kabuto.  Kabuto immediately jumps away with Yamato also retreating to the same side.  Although it was merely coincidence, Yamato’s cover is still safe because Kabuto believes he pulled out his kunai to warn of Orochimaru’s approach.  Kabuto attacks Yamato insteadOrochimaru greets Yamato as Sasori and thanks him for giving him such a useful subordinate.  With Kabuto’s medical ninjutsu, Orochimaru was able to reuse the same test subjects countless times.

Yamato realizes he can’t possibly defeat Orochimaru on his own; even if he tried to work with Kabuto, his true identity would be immediately obvious by theYamato is caught by Orochimaru's snakes jutsus he uses.  While Yamato is still wondering whether he should attack or retreat, Kabuto activates a medical ninjutsu by channeling chakra into his hands.  But instead of attacking Orochimaru, he shatters Yamato’s disguise and forces him to leap away.  Orochimaru uses a jutsu called Hidden Shadow: Hand of Snakes (Senei ta Jushu), transforming his arm into snakes that thrust Orochimaruforward to entangle Yamato in midair.  They bite into his flesh, but it was only a wooden substitution clone.

The real Yamato lands a short distance away, his arm injured slightly due to a graze from Kabuto’s surprise attack.  Surprisingly, after seeing Yamato, Kabuto still isn’t sure if it is the true Sasori or not because he has never seen Sasori’s real face.  With his cover blown, Yamato asksIt was a trap Kabuto why he isn’t under the effects of Sasori’s jutsu anymore.  Kabuto explains that Orochimaru freed him from it quite some time ago and convinced him to join his side.  He and Orochimaru set this trap with the intention of killing Sasori, but they seemed to have caught something else instead.  Although Kabuto does not recognize him, Orochimaru knew immediately who Yamato was from his use of the wooden clone.  But first he asks Yamato to call out his “three little mice” in hiding.  Seeing that Orochimaru has seen through their entire operation, Yamato gives the signal for the others to appear.  Orochimaru becomes amused after seeing Naruto present.  He taunts Naruto to fight him in order to find out who has become stronger, him or Sasuke.
