MenuCHAPTER 289 - Akatsuki Spy  After the confrontation with Sai, Sakura watches Naruto silently walk
away. He stops beside a tree and Sakura sees that
Naruto’s anger is still seething inside as he digs his
fingers deep into the bark. She turns to Sai and asks him to
explain his statement about not having any emotions.
Sai’s reply is that his statement is exactly  as it
is. Sakura pursues further and infers that since Sai has a
brother, surely he can imagine what it is like if he is gone.
Sai answers he can because his brother is dead. He looks
towards Naruto and asks if that’s the kind of expression he
should have used when his brother died. Sakura is at a loss
as to what to say to this kind of person. Yamato orders
everyone to pack their gear and prepare to leave.As Sai turns away, Sakura tells him that she should have beat him to a pulp for all the  things he has said. But she held back
because of what Naruto had said about having to endure working with
someone who bad mouths Sasuke in order to save him. She
promises that, no matter what kind of person Sai is, she
won’t hurt him as long as they can bring back
Sasuke. Sai tells Sakura she is very gentle with
Naruto. But he cannot understand even that feeling; he just
read it in a book once. It is noon the next day and the team has made it to Tenchi
Bridge. As promised, a lone hooded figure stands alone on the
bridge. Naruto, Sakura and Sai conceal themselves on one side
of the bridge while Yamato approaches the spy disguised as
Sasori. As Yamato gets closer, the spy unveils his
face. It is Kabuto Yakushi, Orochimaru’s right-hand
man. Sasori had performed a jutsu on Kabuto over five
years ago in order to suppress his memory and convince him he was a
loyal subordinate to Orochimaru (this is the same technique he
performed on Yuura of the Sand), thus making him the perfect spy.Kabuto says he realizes his true identity now that the jutsu has been lifted, but is still somewhat disorientated. He took a great risk coming out here, so  their time is short. Yamato gets to
the point and asks Kabuto about the location of Orochimaru's base and
Sasuke Uchiha. Kabuto explains that Orochimaru’s
organization has many bases, even in places outside the country of
Sound. To avoid being discovered, they switch bases on a
weekly basis. Their current location is on a small island in
a lake to the north. Sasuke is also there. From cover, Naruto gets impatient and complains he can’t hear  a
word of the conversation between Yamato and Kabuto because of the
high winds. Sakura calls him an idiot for not realizing
that they were able to get this close because the strong wind is
carrying
away their sound and scent.Suddenly, Kabuto senses something and swings around to see if they’ve been discovered. He is relieved to see it was only a wild rabbit rustling through the brushes and continues the conversation with the disguised Yamato. But the rabbit was only a decoy. Hidden deep amongst the trees, Orochimaru has been watching the entire time. Having served its purpose, the rabbit is consumed whole by one of Orochimaru’s snakes.
