MenuCHAPTER 285 - Those of the Root The new Team Kakashi has been formed, but right off the bat  Sai has made enemies of both Naruto and
Sakura. With time being short, Yamato can't afford to mediate
and tells everyone to just introduce themselves. Naruto and
Sakura are clearly still pissed
off but introduce themselves anyways, Sai introduces himself with his
usual fake smile.Yamato explains the mission to everyone. Based on Sasori’s information, the four of them will depart for Tenchi Bridge in the Grass  Village
and intercept the spy in Orochimaru’s organization.
If they can capture the spy, they will gain a valuable source of
information that may lead to destroying Orochimaru and bringing back
Sasuke. Yamato then sends them to ready their gear and meet
back at the front gate in an hour. As Sakura and Naruto head
back together, Sakura comments that despite being so vulgar, Sai does
resemble Sasuke in some ways. Naruto refutes the idea and
says Sasuke is a lot cooler than Sai. After hearing
Naruto’s words, Sakura can’t help but smile and
agree.Sai is prepping his equipment in his own room, the room contains various scrolls and brushes, and the walls are filled with drawings. The last thing Sai packs is a cartoonish drawing of a young boy, it seems to hold sentimental value to him. But as Sai is staring at the picture, he suddenly senses a presence and turns around to block the attack from a person wearing an ANBU mask. The man compliments Sai on his timing and advises  him
never to let down his guard. He is one of Sai’s
seniors in Root and has come to deliver a letter from Danzou.
He tells Sai to make sure to carry out the orders from Danzou, the man
who will ensure Konoha’s future. Something suddenly
catches his attention and he throws his kunai into a tree, but it only
appeared to be a cat that quickly scampers away.The senior Root member reminds Sai that failure is not an option. He then notices the picture he was looking at earlier and asks Sai whether he is still carrying it around with him. When Sai is slow to  answer, he recites Root’s code to Sai:
“In Root, you have no name, you have no feelings.
You have no past, you have no future. All that exists is the
mission.” Before leaving, he tells Sai not to
forget that as members of Root, it’s their duty to support
the great tree that is Konoha from the depth of the earth.Inside Tsunade’s office, Sakura tells her master just how bad it’s been trying to deal with Sai. Tsunade can offer no alternatives, Sakura will just have to be patient  with Sai and keep Naruto under control.
Their conversation is broken when there’s a knock on the
door. Danzou enters wanting to confirm if Tsunade has
assigned an elite ANBU member to Sai’s team. She
tells Danzou she chose the person who stood out the most while Sandaime
(the Third Hokage) was in office. Danzou seems pleased but adds
that he hopes this person hasn’t adopted too many of the
teachings of the pacifistic Sandaime. Tsunade is annoyed, but
maintains her composure. Yet Danzou continues by bringing up
the fact that it was Tsunade’s grandfather, the First Hokage,
who had taught Sandaime. Tsunade says nothing but simply
stares at Danzou with a serious expresson. Having said his
fill, Danzou says farewell and leaves. Afterwards, Sakura
asks Tsuande what that what all about. Tsunade explains that Danzou
once competed with the late Sarutobi for the position of the Third
Hokage. Unlike the moderately thinking Sarutobi, Danzou is
overly logical and highly militaristic. Because she is both a
student of Sarutobi and the granddaughter of the First
Hokage, Danzou naturally despises Tsunade.Later, at the gates of Konoha, everyone has assembled. It is clear to Yamato that none of the tension in the group has eased from earlier. But their mission comes first and Team Kakashi departs.
