MenuCHAPTER 283 - Member Hunt 
Naruto continues his search for team members after seeing Shino,
Hinata and Kiba again. They had to turn Naruto down because they
have already  been
assigned a new mission as part of Team Kurenai. He decides to
visit the Chuunin Exam Committee to see if Shikamaru can
help. Unfortunately, he too is busy because he needs to
sort through the entrants for the next chuunin exam. From around
the corner comes a familiar voice. It’s Choji and he offers
Naruto his assistance, but Shikamaru reminds him he still has a mission
to do with Asuma and Ino. While Shikamaru and Choji argue about helping Naruto out, a character sitting a short distance away unravels a scroll. But instead of the normal procedure of activating the scroll with blood, he produces a brush and  ink
holder. As Naruto jokes about how Choji is even
fatter than before, Shikamaru and Choji’s expressions suddenly
become serious. Shikamaru tackles Naruto to get him out of the
way. Choji enlarges his left
fist and swings at a strange looking creature which appeares out of
nowhere. He intercepts the beast as it lunges at them, but it
turns into a mass of ink as soon as his punch makes contact. A
second creature attacks them from above, but Choji  catches it in midair and crushes it. It too turns into ink.Naruto spots their attacker a distance away and is surprised he is wearing a Konoha headband. He is the character named Sai introduced at the end of chapter 281. None of them recognize Sai, but they agree he needs to be captured and 
interrogated. Naruto charges towards Sai’s position while
Shikamaru readies to back him up. Sai quickly draws a series of
six beast creatures on the scroll. As Naruto draws near, he
activates his justu known as Great Beast False Image (Choujuu Giga) and
six more of the ink creatures emerge  from
the scroll to attack Naruto. Naruto prepares to perform his
Shadow Clones technique, but before he can Shikamaru yells at him to
get down. Shikamaru uses a new technique of his called Shadow
Sewing (Kage Nui). His shadow rapidly rushes forward and
separates into several tendrils that rise from the ground to impale
Sai’s ink creatures.Naruto uses the opening Shikamaru created for him to leap to Sai’s position and attack him with a kunai. Sai draws a baton-like weapon to block Naruto’s blow. Naruto demands him to reveal his identify. But Sai ignores the questions and, with a fake smile on his face, tells Naruto he is fairly weak and questions what he has between his legs.
