MenuCHAPTER 249 - As Kazekage Deidara manages to
slip the remnants of
his crushed arm free and summons a clay owl to carry him
away. Despite the loss of his left arm, he remains calm and
carefully examines the situation. Deidara realizes that the
sand Gaara uses for his “ultimate defence” sand
sphere is different from the sand he summons from the ground.
The former is infused with chakra and is faster and stronger, but
Gaara has only a limited supply of it which he carries in his
gourd. A hole appears in Gaara’s shield because he
used the special sand from that section to crush Deidara's arm.On the ground, Baki readies a team of shinobi to back-up their Kazakage, Gaara. Kankurou is with them and Baki warns him to prepare for the possibility that Gaara will go out of control, allowing Shukaku to be released.
Kankurou assures Baki that Gaara will not allow harm to happen to the
people of the village. In a flashback, Gaara reveals to
Kankurou that he was inspired to become Kazekage after his fight with
Naruto Uzumaki. Naruto knew the pain of being feared and
regarded as an outcast because he too is the host for a powerful demon. But Naruto chose a
path other than hatred and despair and worked hard to gain other
people’s trust. Rather than being needed as a
weapon like before, Gaara is now needed because he is the
Sand’s protector and hero.Deidara has only two clay birds left, one is a small homing bird and the other is “Specialty #18”, a large clay bomb infused with the highest level chakra and can easily flatten the entire village
with its explosion. Deidara lets it drop and triggers the
blast. An enormous explosion occurs but Gaara manages to save
the village by quickly erecting a gigantic sand shell where the clay
bomb exploded.![]() However, creating such a large structure in an instant used up a lot of Gaara’s chakra. Deidara counted on the fact that the Kazekage would not allow his people to receive collateral damage from their battle and sneaked her homing clay bird right next to the hole in Gaara’s sand sphere while he was distracted. Fortunately, Gaara notices just in time to shift his sand shield in order to block the explosion. But Deidara had counted on this too, he then triggers a second explosion, but this one happens inside
Gaara's protective sphere. When Gaara crushed Deidara’s arm, Deidara also managed to consume some of the sand using
the mouth on his palm and replaced it with some of
his own explosive clay. Gaara did not notice and integrated
it back into his sand sphere, it was just bad luck that he used the
tainted sand to block the first explosion. An unconscious Gaara falls toward the ground, but Deidara catches him with his clay owl and flies away from the village.
