MenuCHAPTER 244 - Kakashi Gaiden Part 6: Hero of the Sharingan
Kakashi emerges from the rubble bearing Obito’s Sharingan
in his left eye to face the remaining Rock ninja. A weak Obito
from below asks Kakashi to take care of Rin. Kakashi pledges that
he will and launches an attack on the Rock ninja.
Kakashi’s overhead strike with his father’s special
chakra blade is cut short when the blade breaks upon clashing with the
blades of the Rock ninja. Seeing that Kakashi’s weapon is
destroyed, the Rock ninja turns his blades to attack him, but Kakashi
lands on the ground and is already performing the necessary hand seals
for his Chidori technique. Kakashi powers up his jutsu
immediately and clashes with the Rock ninja once more.
Rin, still inside the pocket of the collapsed cave holding
Obito’s hand, hears Kakashi’s broken blade tip hit the
ground but is unsure who won the fight. The silence is broken
when the face of the Rock ninja peers over the opening to the
cave. Rin tenses up but Obito ,even though now blind, tells her
to relax. The blank stare of the Rock ninja remains unchanged and he suddenly collapses revealing Kakashi behind him.
Obio asks Kakashi to take Rin and escape before the
enemy’s reinforcements arrive. Rin is hesitant to abandon
him, but Obito pulls his hand away and tells her it’s okay to
go. As Kakashi offers his hand to pull Rin up, he is suddenly alerted
by the presence of new enemies. A squad of six Rock ninjas have
arrived on the scene. One of them performs a jutsu called Doton:
Splitting Earth Force to initiate a fast moving tremor which surges
towards the remains of the collapsed cave. Kakashi tells Rin to
hurry and grab his hand as the walls begin to collapse. Rin has
no choice but to leave Obito behind; she yells out Obito’s name
as his remaining body is crushed by rocks. Obito’s last
thoughts were that he regrets not being able to admit his feelings to
Rin and not being able to be together with everyone longer.
Kakashi and Rin escape a short distance into the trees but
cannot lose their pursuers. Even though he is exhausted, Kakashi
performs his Chidori again. It is even more powerful than before
due to the Sharingan and Kakashi thanks Obito for helping him complete
the jutsu. One of the Rock ninja applauds his strong will for
still having the courage to fight in this
situation. Kakashi grabs the special kunai from Minato in his
other hand and tells Rin that he’ll handle the Rock ninja while
she makes a run for it. Rin starts to protest, but Kakashi is
adamant about fulfilling Obito’s last wish to protect her even at
the cost of his own life. He tells Rin that, in truth, Obito had
loved her, and because of that he’ll protect her through life and
death. Tears swell in Rin’s eyes and she starts to tell
Kakashi her own feelings for him, but Kakashi interrupts and tells Rin
that he was once the kind of trash that would have abandoned her.
They have no more time to argue over it as the six Rock ninjas
charge in all at once. Kakashi tells Rin to run and prepares to
face the onslaught. But then everything goes dark and
Kakashi wonders if he has died already. He wakes up and is
surprised to find Minato sitting beside him. He is surprised by
how his sensei was able to located them, but Minato brings out the
special kunai he had given him and tells Kakashi that the markings on
it alerts him whenever the kunai is thrown. When Kakashi used the
kunai in his last stand against the Rock ninjas, Minato sensed it and
teleported in to completely defeat their attackers. Kakashi asks
if Rin is alright. Minato points to Rin,
who is standing in a field quietly looking up at the stars, and tells
him that Rin told him about the whole thing and apologizes for not
arriving in time. Some time later, Kakashi, Rin and Minato manage to complete their objective of destroying the Kanabi Bridge. At the site of the destroyed bridge, a tombstone to Obito was left along with his goggles. Many
nameless shinobi died in the Third Great Ninja War, but two heroes
carrying the Sharingan were born during the battle for the Kanabi
Bridge. One of them will have his name forever more carved onto
that tombstone; the other will become known as “Sharingan
Kakashi” and be well known throughout the shinobi world.
