CHAPTER 242 - Kakashi Gaiden Part 4: Crybaby Ninja

Obito walks away from Kakashi     After saying what he to to Kakashi, Obito continues on his way to rescue Rin.  Kakashi stares at Obito’s back for a moment, but then turns away and walks in the opposite direction.

Minato arrives     At the frontlines of the battle between the Rock and Leaf ninja, a heavy bombardment of boulders is keeping the Leaf shinobi pinned down.  The commander is thankful when Minato finally arrives on the scene.  Minato asks for the situation but is told it is rather dire.  There’s around fifty of the enemy, but the Konoha shinobi have suffered heavily in the last attack and there are only four of them still alive.

shinobi battlefield    Minato hands out a set of twenty of his unique kunais to each of the four remaining Leaf ninja.  He asks them to throw them at the enemy together and explains that he’ll handle theMinato's special kunai rest after that.  One of the ninja exclaims it as a crazy idea, but the commander tells him to shut up and let Minato do his job because they get to see first hand how Konoha’s “Yellow Flash” fights.

Kakashi reflects    Kakashi moves by himself to their mission’s objective.  As he lands on the branch of a tree, a shooting pain runs up his arm.  He recalls Rin’s cheery face telling him that the wound he received is nearly healed, but advising him not to overdo it or it would reopen.  He remembers Obito’s words about how they would have died of their injuries on previous missions if Rin wasn’t there with her medical ninjutsu.  As well, Kakashi remembers Minato saying that the rules and regulations are important but one must also adapt to the situation.   But it’s Obito’s words about the White Fang being a hero which causes Kakashi to stop and rethink about who the real trash is - one who abandons theObito is noticed mission or one who abandons his teammates.

Obito has finally tracked down the Rock ninja and Rin to a cave.  He slaps his cheeks to calm himself down and prepare for the battle ahead.   Unfortunately, inside the cave, the Rock ninja have already been alerted to his presence.  The larger ninja tells his partner to continue the genjutsu on Rin to extract information out of her while he where to?takes care of their intruder.

Obito grabs his kunai and tells himself it’s time to do it, but is shocked to hear a voice behind him asking him “to where?”  The Rock ninja has already snuck up on him using Camouflage Concealment jutsu.  Obito swings around to face his enemy, but it isKakashi to the rescue too late and he hears the sound of a blood being spilt. However, it is not his own.  Kakashi had returned and dove in to slash the Rock ninja in the chest before he could harm Obito.   As the injured Rock ninja leaps away to a safer distance, Obito asks Kakashi why he had returned.  Kakashi replies that he just couldn’t leave everything to a crybaby ninja.

The Rock ninja recognizes the silver hair and chakra blade Kakashi possesses as trademarks of Konoha’s “White Fang.”  Kakashi replies that the blade is a memento of his father.  Obito recalls Kakashi saying A mementothat emotions are unnecessary to a shinobi, yet he has kept a symbol of his late father close to him this whole time.  The Rock ninja comments that since Kakashi is the “White Fang”’s brat, there is no need to worry.  He uses his Camouflage Concealment jutsu to turn himself invisible once again.  Kakashi attempts toBehind them detect his scent but realizes that their opponent has had his scent completely removed.  He tells Obito that the only way he can track the Rock ninja is by the sounds he makes and his movement through the air currents.  Obito nervously asks where the enemy is, but a small sound behind him alerts Kakashi that the Rock ninja has already snuck behind them.

Kakashi injured in his left eye    Kakashi warns Obito to watch out and dashes in to intercept the attack.  The Rock ninja’s blade slashes Kakashi’s left eye, rendering itcrybaby ninja useless.  Kakashi yells in pain and a teary eyed Obito rushes over to see how bad it is.  Kakashi comments that their enemy is skilled as he has already gotten rid of the kunai with Kakashi’s blood on it so as he cannot be tracked by scent.  He notices that Obito is crying again and tells him he’s not dead yet.

Obito knows that even though he is always making excuses and mouthing off, he has to be saved by his teammates in the end.  However, he no longer wants to be a loser Obito kills the Rock ninjaanymore because right now he is the only one who can save his teammates.  He recalls what he said to Kakashi about his father being a hero.  Obito truly believed it Obito's Sharinganwhen he said those words and he wants to live up to those ideals by not letting his teammates down in this situation.

The Rock ninja knows that even though his opponents are just brats, he must take this seriously.  He sneaks up on the pair cautiously and prepares to take out Obito from behind.  But it is Obito who makes the killing strike with his kunai.  Obito’s Sharingan has activated for the first time in this crucial moment and he was able to see through the Rock ninja’s camouflage technique.  The Rock ninja utters disbelief as he sees Obito’s eyes, then falls to the ground and dies.  Obito announces that it is now his turn to protect his companions.
