MenuCHAPTER 240 - Kakashi Gaiden Part 2: Teamwork
Kakashi is about to charge forward with his Chidori, but
Minato holds his hand up in front of him preventing him from
proceeding. Kakashi tries to convince Minato that his jutsu
can take care of enemies in an instant even if there’s a
large number of them. He also adds that right now, he is the
leader of the mission, and everyone under him, including Minato, should
follow his instructions. Seeing his student’s
determination, Minato reluctantly draws his hand back.
Kakashi wastes no time and immediately dashes
forward, carving a straight path through the ground with the
discharging electricity from his Chidori. The Rock ninja in
hiding readies his kunai. He and his Shadow Clones all throw
kunai at Kakashi from multiple directions. But just before
they could hit him, a flurry of shurikens from behind deflects all the
projectiles away. Minato has Kakashi’s back
covered.
With the enemies’ kunai attacks, the
locations of all the clones are revealed. For the first
target, Minato throws a projectile directly at the Rock ninja in
hiding. The ninja ducks in time, but with breakneck speed
Kakashi tunnels through the mushroom trees to come up right next to his
target. He plunges his Chidori into the Rock ninja, but his
victim disappears in a puff of smoke - it was a Shadow Clone.
Kakashi immediately moves on to his next target.![]() Back at the starting point, Obito is unsure of what to do and is looking nervously left and right. Suddenly, a Rock ninja clone appears from concealment right next to him. Obito is frozen in fear, but Minato dashes to his side in time to take out the clone. Minato warns Obito to not be so careless. Obito nervously answers “yes”, but he is still shaking and teary eyed.
Kakashi continues his attack after taking out his
eighteenth Shadow Clone. He makes his final charge at the
last Rock ninja who is the real deal. The Rock ninja warns
Kakashi to not be so cocky and raises his sword to counter his
attack. At the instant before the Rock ninja’s
sword stroke is about to come down, Minato suddenly appears out of
nowhere and pulls Kakashi back. The sword grazes
Kakashi’s shoulder, but Minato’s actions saved
Kakashi from a fatal wound. Just as quickly as he appeared,
Minato disappears to take Kakashi to safety; but not before leaving a
special seal onto the Rock ninja’s shoe. The Rock ninja takes cover to hide himself again. He curses the blond ninja for interfering because he knows he could have countered Kakashi’s attack otherwise. At that moment, Minato returns Kakashi to Rin and Obito. He sets his backpack down, but before it lands on the ground, Minato has disappeared again. Rin recognizes it as the Body Flicker technique, but the speed at which Minato can perform it is unheard of. In an instant Minato reappears, this time right behind the Rock ninja and with a kunai held against his throat. The Rock ninja knows he is done for and asks if Minato is indeed the rumoured “Konoha’s Yellow
Flash.” Minato is silent. The Rock ninja
comments that he was told by his commanders to escape on sight if he
ever encountered a person matching Minato’s
description. Now he knows why he was given such a warning,
but it is too late.Rin is healing Kakashi’s wound when Minato returns from taking care of the Rock ninja. He tells the team that they will return back to camp because Kakashi’s wound isn’t minor, but Kakashi insists he is fine.
Obito blames Kakashi for the setback because he selfishly went against
Minato’s orders and attacked on his own. Kakashi
stares coldly at Obito and tells him he doesn’t want to hear
anything from a coward and a crybaby. Obito tries to excuse
himself by saying there was something in his eyes again.
Kakakshi quotes Shinobi Rule 25: “A shinobi never shows his
tears.” Minato tells the two to stop
bickering. He reminds Kakashi that while rules and
regulations are important, one must also be able to adapt to the
situation. He also tells Obito that he couldn’t
have had something in is eyes because he was wearing his goggles the
whole time. Minato lectures to Obito that he needs to learn
to control his mouth or his mind will become weak. Lastly, he
orders Kakashi not to use his Chidori jutsu again. The
concentrated forward thrust and Kakashi’s speed gives Chidori
its great destructive power, but because of the intense speed his
movements, Kakashi is unable to detect his opponent’s counter
attacks in time. In essence, the Chidori is an incomplete
jutsu. Before moving out, Minato leaves everybody
with one final message: above all else, the most important thing to a
shinobi is teamwork. Some time later after the team has made camp, Obito comes to Minato alone. He tells his sensei that he recognizes the importance of teamwork but he finds it hard to believe in when Kakashi is always making him look like an idiot. But
he admits that Kakashi is really an amazing ninja. Obito says
that although he comes from the “elite” Uchiha
clan, he considers himself a loser.
Minato turns to Obito and explains to him that
Kakashi is the son of the genius ninja, Sakumo Hatake, also known as
the “White Fang of Knonha.” Kakashi’s
father was said to have been on the same level as the
“Legendary Sannin.” Minato suggests that,
because Kakashi grew up under such a strong figure, he may view his
teammates as unsatisfactory in comparison. Obito remembers having heard
about the White Fang before, but mentions that Kakashi never talked
about his father. A solemn look appears on Minato’s
face. He tells Obito that although he is not supposed to
speak about it, he will tell him about Kakashi’s father
seeing as Obito is Kakashi‘s teammate.Sakumo was once widely respected by the entire village until he was disgraced in an incident that caused him to commit suicide. Five years ago, on a top secret mission deep into enemy territory, Sakumo faced a difficult choice between the success of
the mission or the lives of his teammates. According to the
shinobi rules, he should have placed the mission’s success
above all else. But Sakumo abandoned the rules in order to save his
friends. But because of his choice, the mission was a failure
and the Fire Country suffered a great loss. In the end, both
Konoha and the friends he saved turned and blamed him. After
that mission, Sakumo became depressed and his body and spirit grew
weak. Ultimately, he look his own life. After that,
Kakashi never spoke of his father again and began his creed to always
follow the rules no matter what. Minato counsels Obito to try
to understand Kakashi just a little and not to hold a grudge against
him.
