036 - Sakura's Depression
 In a training ground in the forest, a
group of Leaf Genin discuss the new rookies going into the Chuunin Exam
this year. They’re particularly interested in
Kakashi’s students.
 Naruto, Sakura and
Sasuke once again meet early in the morning, and as
always Kakashi is very late. Kakashi finally shows up and
both Naruto and Sakura loudly complain about his tardiness.
Kakashi informs them he has nominated them for the Chunin Exam and
hands out application forms. He says that the decision to
participate is up to each of them, and tells them to bring the forms to
room 301 at the ninja academy the next day.
 As they walk home,
Naruto is very cheerful because he believes the test
to be his chance to finally upstage Sasuke and become one step closer
to being Hokage. Sasuke tries to hide it, but he is shaking
with excitement that he might get the chance to fight Gaara.
Sakura, however, is feeling depressed because she is not confident
that
she can keep up with Sasuke and Naruto during the exam.
The next day, everyone meets at the academy along
with many other
participants to hand in their forms. However, in front of
room 301, two tough looking ninja are blocking the entrance into the
room. The Leaf Genins from the training ground try to go
through but are violently pushed back.  The two shinobis tell
everyone that they’ve failed the exam three times already and
are here to warn them that weaklings shouldn’t even bother
with the test.
 Sasuke is not
deterred and calmly tells them to let him through and to
remove the genjutsu around the door. To boost
Sakura’s self-confidence, Sasuke asks her to confirm the
genjutsu because she has the best analytical skills on their
team. Sakura points out that they are only on the second
floor, so the room behind the shinobis can’t be
301.
 The genjutsu is
dispelled but one of the shinobis decides to test
Sasuke further by throwing a kick. However, one of the Leaf
Genin from earlier who is in a green jumpsuit suddenly appears between
them and stops both of them with his bare
hands. His teammate
asks him why he isn’t sticking to the plan to
keep a low
profile. The Genin in the green jump suit blushes and looks
over to Sakura - he was trying to impress her. He
walks up to
Sakura and introduces himself as Rock Lee. He immediately
asks Sakura to go out with him, but is rejected just as fast.
Rock Lee’s teammate, a guy with white pupils, asks for
Sasuke’s name - much to Naruto’s anger because he
is ignored again. Sasuke refuses to answer his questions and
walks away, but he is unsettled because he knows Rock
Lee and his
teammates are very strong.
As Naruto and Rock
Lee‘s teams disperse, the shinobis who
were guarding the door watch them closely. They release their
transformations to reveal their true identities as Examiners.
They were just testing everyone with an unofficial first test of the
Chuunin Exam.
Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke are walking through the
academy when suddenly
Rock Lee reappears. He challenges Sasuke to a fight.
