CHAPTER 021 - A Meeting in the Forest

By the sixth day of training, Naruto is exhausted. Nearby in the forest, a much more peaceful looking Haku is collecting plants. He sees Naruto lying down and remembers him from the Zabuza incident.

Back at Tazuna’s house, everyone is surprised that Naruto didn’t return last night. He apparently hasn’t stopped climbing trees ever since he heard Kaiza’s story. Sakura and Tsunami seem skeptical about his safety, but Kakashi assures them that he will be alright; he is a ninja. Inari appears concerned by all this talk of Naruto’s well being.

Back in the forest, Haku approaches Naruto. He taps him to wake him up and tells Naruto he’ll catch a cold if he sleeps in a place like this. Naruto mistakes Haku for a woman, and asks her what she is doing out so early. Haku simply replies by asking Naruto the same. He notices Naruto’s forehead protector and is amazed that he is a ninja.

Haku appears interested in Naruto’s intentions for training, filling his head with false compliments. Naruto, pumped by the attention, claims he has to do this in order to prove something to someone. Haku asks if Naruto has someone important to him, and then flashes back to when he was little...

He was young, and alone in the middle of the street. That was when Zabuza approached him.

Haku tells Naruto that when a person has something to protect, that is when they truly becomes strong. Naruto remembers how Iruka protected him from Mizuke, and how Kaiza protected his village from the flood. Haku tells Naruto he wants to meet again. As he leaves, he adds, much to Naruto’s surprise, that he is actually a boy. As Haku walks away, he passes Sasuke, who senses something odd about him.

The next day Sakura and Kakashi speculate about where Naruto and Sasuke could be. A kunai comes flying down at their feet from up above. It is Naruto hanging from a very high branch, bragging of course. Naruto slips, and Sakura and Kakashi fear what could happen if he falls from that height. He is just fooling with them, and is actually sticking to the branch upside down.

He slips again, but this time for real. All of a sudden a hand grabs him, saving him from the fatal fall. It is Sasuke, who is standing upside down on the same branch with ease. Sakura and Kakashi applaud his skill.

Back at Tazuna’s house Inari is in his room thinking about Naruto. Meanwhile, Kakashi is talking to Tazuna and Tsunami about why he is still there, all the while doing one-fingered push-ups with them on his back. He tells them a shinobi doesn’t just act for money; courage and pride are the most valuable traits. He also remarks that he is about back to his normal condition.

Somewhere else, Zabuza crushes an apple in his palm. He too is almost back to normal, and tells Haku they should move out.
