CHAPTER
010 - Target Number 2
While on there first C-Ranked
mission, Team7 is attacked by two ninjas from the Village of the Mist
whom will be refered to as Nin-1 and Nin-2. Both ninjas release their
chain-like weapons attached to their arms and are headed right for
Naruto to go in for the attack. Overwhelmed by what’s
happening, Naruto freezes up and cannot move. Before Naruto is attacked
by the two  ninjas,
Sasuke comes to the rescue. Sasuke throws a shuriken
to pin the ninjas’ chains to a nearby tree, and then follows
it with a kunai to seal the deal therefore making it impossible to move
their arms. But before Sasuke can attack them, the ninjas release the
chains from their arms and flee.
Nin-1 is headed towards Naruto and
attacks, while Nin-2 is headed towards Tazuna. Sakura jumps in front of
Tazuna to save him from Nin-2. Sasuke jumps in front of Sakura to
shield her but out of nowhere Kakashi comes out of nowhere and knocks
out both ninjas. Everyone is surprised to see Kakashi alive, but Naruto
notices that he  used
a replacement jutsu when he was attacked by the
ninjas earlier. After his arrival, Kakashi apologies to Naruto for
taking long, but inputs that he didn’t think he would freeze
up like that. Naruto feels useless at this point. Sasuke asks Naruto if
he is okay but calls him a scary cat. Kakashi explains to
Naruto that the ninja’s claw that he  was
attacked with
contains poison that is now in his bloodstream. Naruto gets scared and
freezes.
After tying both ninjas to a
nearby tree, Kakashi points out that these ninja are Chunin from the
land of waves that specialize in relentless attacks no matter what the
cost. Nin-1 asks Kakashi how he knew about their ambush. Kakashi states
that it is because he saw the puddle in the middle of the road, and yet
it was a sunny day and hadn’t rained for quite some time.
Tazuna then questions why Kakashi let the Genin fight rather than
finish the ninjas off. Kakashi states that it is because he needed to
know if the ninjas were after them as ninjas, or after him as a bridge
builder. He goes on to say that by Tazuna not telling Konaha the full
truth, the team at hand has now gone way past their
boundaries of duty.
Sakura points out that under these
circumstances, the team should return to Konaha because they need to
get back and treat Naruto’s hand. Kakashi sees that it is a
good point and says they should start heading back to Konaha. Feeling
really upset that he has been useless thus far, Naruto pulls out his
kunai and starts to dig into the hand that has been poisoned to draw
out the tainted blood. It is at this point that Naruto swears by the
pain in his left hand to never be scared, to never  freeze
up, and to
never back down ever again.
Meanwhile, at an unknown location,
a short fat man is yelling at a masked ninja because the Demon Brothers
he sent failed to kill Tazuna even though he paid them a lot of money.
The ninja unsheaths a gigantic sword, wielding it
with ease in one
hand, and points it at the short man. He tells the him not to
worry because
he, Momochi Zabuza - the Demon of the Mist, will take care of
it personally.
