Land of Rice Fields

A small country that has the sea on one side and shares borders with the Land of Fire and two other unnamed countries. The Valley of the End marks its border limit with the Fire Country. The land was once known as the Land of Rice Fields because it possessed excellent land for planting rice patties. Although small, the country grew prosperous from the rice trade and was able to maintain its own shinobi village. However, after many conflicts with other countries, Rice Field Country grew weak. Thus when Orochimaru enticed them with the promise of riches and power, the people welcomed him to establish his Hidden Village in the Sound. But it quickly became apparent that Orochimaru had no intention of helping the country as he began to use their shinobis for his heinous experiments. The people of the Land of Rice Fields were powerless to stop Orochimaru and the entire country became known as the Land of Sound.  The Naruto anime filler arc from episodes 136-141 provides more information on the plight of the Rice Field Country shinobis.
