Description:

  The Uchiha heritage has the bloodline potential of the Sharingan, but not all Uchiha clan members can awaken this powerful dojutsu; they must fulfill the right requirements to develop it. Once the ability has appeared, the user can turn it on and off at will. When active, the iris of the eyes turn red and black tomoes appear inside. The Sharingan ability consists of reading and memorizing Genjutsu, Taijutsu and Ninjutsu techniques though observing and copying body movements and hand seal combinations. However, the Sharingan can not copy other bloodline abilities.  This is the only doujutsu known to be able to evolve to a different form: the Magenkyo Sharingan.   One weakness of the Sharingan is that it consumes a large amount of chakra over time while active, but the Uchihas tend to possess more charka than common ninjas and can learn to reduce the Sharingan's chakra consumption as they gain more experience.

Awaken

  The Sharigan can awaken during periods of extreme emotional stress or life-threatening situations. Itachi and Sasuke both awakened theirs at 8 years old. At first, the Sharingan only has one tomoe in each eye, but with use it will gain three tomoes around each pupil.

Powers of the Sharingan

  The Sharingan can see things at drastically reduced speeds, making it possible to read, identify, memorize and copy any taijutsu, ninjutsu and genjutsu.  This ability also allow Sharingan users to read lips and copy handwriting. The Sharingan's only shortcoing is the inability to copy jutsus that require another Kekkei Genkai.

  As the tomoes in the Sharingan increase from one to three tomoes, there is a corresponding increase to perception and precision of the sight. With two tomoes, the Sharingan can see charka as an aura around a person, but to a lesser level than the Byakugan. It can tell if someone is running out of energy, and identify bunshins (clones).

  The Sharingan can penetrate Genjutsu, identify what is real and what is illusion. It can also see and memorize Ninjutsu (hand seals). And it can see and copy most Taijutsu, and allow the user to avoid being hit. But seeing and avoiding a blow are completely different things.  The Sharingan user still requires the right amount of strength and speed to match his opponent to successfully evade a hit.

  With three tomoes, the Sharingan is able to see movements at even greater speeds, and even predict the opponent’s attack. This is possible through the Sharingan's ability to see the tension of the muscles and so allow the user to predict the direction of the next movement. Also at this level, if the user is skilled enough, he can perform Genjutsu simply by locking his gaze into another person's eyes.

  Sasuke, at this level, was also capable of using the Sharingan to suppress chakra; he did it to Kyuubi and Jugo. Also, his Genjutsu was powerful enough for him to take control over a Manda, Orochimaru's most powerful snake summon.
