Matsuri first appeared as a genin of the Hidden Village of the Sand. Despite her timid nature, Matsuri was the only student who picked Gaara as her sensei at the academy. Matsuri’s parents were both killed when she was younger and as a result she developed a fear of weapons. However, in an incident where Gaara fought a group of Shitenshounin shinobi to rescue her, she realized that weapons are not only for harming others but can be used to protect your friends. Trivia: It is often believed that Matsuri is an anime only character created for the Naruto filler episodes.
