“Hanzou the Salamander” was an icon throughout the
shinobi world for the power he possessed. He was the leader of
Amegakure during their civil war but was killed by Pein. This was
despite the fact that Hanzou was under guard 24 hours a day and did not
even allow children to meet him unchecked. He once fought with the team
of Jiraiya, Orochimaru and Tsunade and nearly killed all of them. But
Hanzou respected their strength and spared their lives on the condition
that they refer to themselves as the Legendary Three of Konoha from
that day on.

True to his namesake, Hanzou rides upon a large salamander summon during battle. Its abilities have not been revealed.
