Dan was Tsunade’s
lover and Shizune’s uncle. He was a medical ninja
who supported Tsunade’s proposal to include medical nin in
every four man squad in Konoha. Like Tsunade’s
little brother, Nawaki, Dan’s little sister was also killed
in the Ninja Wars. Dan hoped to become Hokage someday in
order to protect his loved ones. He was given the First
Hokage’s necklace by Tsunade as a good luck charm, but Dan
was subsequently seriously wounded on a mission. Tsunade was
with Dan on the mission and tried her best to heal his
wounds. She failed and became hemophobic as a result of the
shock of losing Dan and also came to believe her necklace was cursed.
